  1. They're alright. I was hoping for strictly instrumental. Have to pass on the vocals. For me, there was promise before the guitarist started, then things got off-time and haywire. I'm guessing they're a newer band, not by the fact I haven't heard them before, but by the low-budget sounding performance. Even if better media had been used, it wouldn't have changed the sound drastically.
  2. You leave me unsure, Shawn. For the record, I is no cop. Just ex-army.
  3. No, that would be all the hippies in this town around me. Last I had long hair was in high school. Since the military, I've pretty much kept it this way. I should start growing it though. I think my midlife-crisis is about due.
  4. Don't want you guys getting jealous so I'll post this here too: Don't worry DAIC, I can't afford the gas to come terrorize ya.
  5. BORDEAUX, France (Reuters) - The mayor of a village in southwest France has threatened residents with severe punishment if they die, because there is no room left in the overcrowded cemetery to bury them. In an ordinance posted in the council offices, Mayor Gerard Lalanne told the 260 residents of the village of Sarpourenx that "all persons not having a plot in the cemetery and wishing to be buried in Sarpourenx are forbidden from dying in the parish." It added: "Offenders will be severely punished." Read entire story here.
  6. MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (AP) -- Gary Gygax, who co-created the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons and helped start the role-playing phenomenon, died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva. He was 69. He had been suffering from health problems for several years, including an abdominal aneurysm, said his wife, Gail Gygax. Gygax and Dave Arneson developed Dungeons & Dragons in 1974 using medieval characters and mythical creatures. The game known for its oddly shaped dice became a hit, particularly among teenage boys, and eventually was turned into video games, books and movies. Read entire story here.
  7. Also one of his most redundant choruses. Great band, great artist, great music. My first concert was his Dream Evil tour.
  8. This was the song/album that truly got me into Rush. It was a forward/backward love affair from that point on as I eventually got the entire collection. I think from there I stayed current with the band and now I think I'm only short the latest studio album. Truly one of the greatest rock bands ever.
  9. Damn, how many degrees are there? I have to agree with the dude. At least he was addressing the fact he had a problem. Journalism at its finest. Like the color of the damn folder really fucking matters. Argh, gotta hit something.
  10. LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Mike Smith, the lead singer of the 1960s British band the Dave Clark Five, died on Thursday of pneumonia at an English hospital, his U.S. agent said. Smith, 64, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday morning with a chest infection resulting from complications of a 2003 spinal cord injury that had left him paralyzed from the waist down, his New York agent, Margo Lewis, said in a statement. His death at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, north of London, came just two weeks before the Dave Clark Five -- one of the leading bands of the 1960s "British invasion" -- was due to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in New York. 11. Never watched it. I was thinking Facts of Life until I hit the link.
  12. Welcome to the site, Pixie!
  13. i got off work just before it peaked. I was semi-hurrying home and grabbed a bite to eat. I get home and a frikkin cloud formation passes right in front of it. It passed away after about 30 minutes so I can see what's remaining of it. It's just now starting to come out of the eclipse.
  14. Didn't they have like one album, with one single?
  15. Welcome to the club, Koop. I think you will find many surprises and much entertainment in all of it.
  16. NEW YORK - Fans of the Fox drama "24" will have to wait until next January to see Jack Bauer again, this television season's most prominent casualty of the Hollywood writers strike. The network has committed to air a full season on consecutive weeks, and had been planning to start last month. But if it had started airing new episodes soon, the season finale would not have taken place until the summer, when TV networks rarely show their high-profile programs. Even though eight episodes for this season had already been filmed before the beginning of the writers strike, producers would have had to ramp up production soon to complete the season. 17. I think old school is definitely the first 3 albums with the next 3 albums being a transitionary period. Garage Days Re-Revisited was our intro to Newsted, whom I thought did well for his tenure. I wouldn't be surprised if Load was the reason he left. He's too versatile to be held down by the unsuredness of Metallica. I don't think I'm holding my breath for whatever's next.
  18. PARIS (AFP) - French crooner Henri Salvador, who first went on stage in the cabarets of pre-war Paris and played guitar with Django Reinhardt, died in Paris on Wednesday aged 90, his record company said. An all-round entertainer with an infectious laugh, Salvador helped introduce France to rock'n'roll, inspired the invention of bossa nova in Brazil and was a pioneer of the music video. Spry as a bird, Salvador was performing on stage right up until the end of last year. He died at his Paris home of a brain haemorrhage, according to Polydor records. Read entire story here.
  19. NEW YORK (Billboard) - Actress Scarlett Johansson says Tom Waits has given the thumbs-up to her debut album, which features covers of 10 tunes written by the notoriously persnickety musician. "Anywhere I Lay My Head" will be released May 20 via Atco/Rhino. David Bowie, whom Johansson met a party just prior to beginning work on the album, lends his distinctive vocals to the tracks "Falling Down" and "Fannin' Street," while Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner and members of the band Celebration contribute throughout. The album was produced by Dave Sitek of the New York rock band TV On The Radio. The album also boasts one original tune, "Song for Jo." Johansson said she initially considered making an album of standards, but the project slowly morphed into a Waits-dominated affair. "His melodies are so beautiful and his voice is so distinct," she said at a news conference Tuesday. Read entire story here.
  20. NEW YORK (Billboard) - Reunited rock band Stone Temple Pilots will play their first concert in more than seven years at the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio, on May 17, the band said Tuesday. Frontman Scott Weiland, who went on to co-found Velvet Revolver, recently entered rehab to deal with a chronic addiction. But he is expected to be ready to join forces with guitarist Dean DeLeo, his bass player brother Robert, and drummer Eric Kretz. Other acts confirmed for Rock on the Range, which also takes place May 18 at Columbus Crew Stadium, include Kid Rock, Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, Staind, Papa Roach and Seether. Read entire story here.
