  1. Happy New Year. The bell struck at 4:20 here in LA and I was pouring some bubbly :Here's to you: :frog: and rolling my own...
  2. I liked John Mayer's My Body is a Wonderland, and Simon and Garfunkle's Sounds of Silence. Whoever put these songs on a worst ever list, needs their ears examined. That said, Acy Breaky Heart and Ice Baby Ice would definitely be on my worst list...yuck...
  3. You're correct. Except for the news mods, they generally are tied to more than one, but not all.
  4. Make yourself at home... :scratchin:
  5. With all this censorshiip crap going on, I thought this was refreshing :)
  6. I think the other mods are tiied to a specific forum, where as he and Janet are in chareg of the other mods and all the forums
  7. ...on being named a super-mod at ZP!! Best wishes for continued success :) :strumma: :scratchin: :psychofun: :good job: :jammintwo: :jammin: :strumma: :thumpin: :dancin: :Here's to you: :frog: :frog:
  8. His biggest hit in the states was "If you could read my mind." I think Jim Croce and Cat Stevens fall into this school...and maybe James Taylor at times... Any of you guys fans of Ry Cooder or JJ Cale. They rock a bit more, but have country sensibiilites..
  9. sounds cool. i will contribute something to the mix once i see the tone of the place. i can do movies if ya like..probably the best i can do is once a month right now...once you are set up, tell me what you need and i will help out when i can
  10. Maurice is a friend of mine and is one of the trend-setting DJs in LA. What's interesting about his musical tastes, as you can see by the notice, is that his influences are from all around the world. If you're in S. Cal, you should check this out :good job:
  11. Welcome to Beatking :strumma:
  12. THE FCC is OUT OF CONTROL. :reallymad: :reallymad: :reallymad:
  13. Fascinating. How do you read the patterns? And in what way does this show that news is biased?
  14. In addition to BK and ZP, I hang out at Salon.com and I usually cruise the NYTimes, Drudge Report and CNet everyday. Fark.com, Boredom.com and AlbinoBlackSheep.com for fun stuff. And sometimes I troll David Horowitz's FrontPage, the ulta-conservative website if Im in the mood for some twisted humor.
  15. lol He should have conducted Moonlight Serenade
  16. Don't make fun of my mental dyslexia. I'm still trying to recover from the Starr Report, the Florida Vote, the Supreme Court election decision, the war on Iraq, the FCC, the religious takeover of the government, the Federal deficit, oursourcing of our jobs to India, and the erosion of our civil liberties. Is it any wonder I can't think straight????? :rotfl:
  17. Unfortunately, the Bushies are like the Red Sox--they cant win a second banner :)
  18. In other words, they took advantage of 911 to pursue their own agenda on Iraq. Switch and bait. :reallymad:
  19. About time someone stood up to these sanctimonious jerks :good job:
  20. I just posted some Zeppelin lyrics you can ignore Otherwise, you should have a good time here. Welcome aboard, IHJP :strumma:
  21. When I think of Latin Jazz, I think of Deodato, Flora Purim and Airto. Steeley Dan had a rock/pop phase before AJA, which is a terrfic album. They stopped touring and spent an enormous amount of time in the studio. I thought they were really doing groundbreaking sutff for their first few fusion albums. If you liked AJA, then check out the Crusaders Souuthern Comfort double album, or Grover Washington or John Klemer, the sax players, or any of the CTI albums in the mid seventies to early eighties. I think Steely Dan has begun to lose its luster now--the sound is always the same, and there are no breaks for the instrumentation to take off--just wall-to-wall vocals.
  22. When I was a grad student at UCLA, a bunch of us helped produce a tribute to Henry Mancini, which featured Quincy Jones and Pavorotti. Quincy Jones performed a versin of Peter Gunn that was smokin' Henry Mancini created a lot of great movie scores and gave Quincy his first break..
