  1. 42 Dugg has been enjoying moderate success in the past year and a half. After being signed in a joint venture between Lil Baby's 4PF Imprint and Yo Gotti's Collective Music Group, the Detroit native started to gain traction after appearing on Lil Baby's 2020 hit "We Paid," as well as the My Turn album cut "Grace." Due to some legal problems, the rapper has been unable to stay consistent with his music releases but it seems like that is all about to change this year based on an icy new gift given to him by Gotti. In the video uploaded to Yo Gotti's Instagram page, the CMG CEO shared footage as he presented a massive gold-encrusted diamond C puppy-dog chain as well as an equally-icy watch to the scene newcomer. He penned in the caption of the post, "#CMGRecords 2021 We Need Everybody Drop a [Puppy Emoji] if [you're] ready for @42_dugggg to light up the streets with new music." He added the hashtag #42 and #FreeDemBoyz, referring to the legal troubles the Detroit rapper is facing that have held him back from making music before. "F*ck it I’ll turn this bitch up," commented the rapper on the post, seemingly promising to apply pressure on the rap game this year. While many in the comments questioned that 42's presumed 4PF affiliation, people pointed out that he was simply getting to both bags. What do you think of the chain from Gotti? Are you excited about new music from 42? Let us know in the comments. View the full article

  4. Shortly before former President Donald Trump had completed his time in office, he was hit with yet another impeachment, the second one to occur during his tenure in the Oval Office. The incident in question, of course, that landed Trump in trouble in the first place was the attempted siege of the Capitol building by radical supporters of the disgraced politician attempting to stop the transfer of power. Despite President Joe Biden being sworn into office already, Trump's impeachment trial is still moving forward, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi confirming Friday (January 22) that the impeachment articles passed by the House are set to move to Senate on Monday. Stefani Reynolds/Getty Images Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Pelosi both confirmed Friday that the articles would be sent out in three days. While Trump has already left office, impeaching the president would prevent him from holding office ever again if they convict him. The Senate will need 67 votes total to convict Trump of the articles. If all 50 Democrats on the Senate support a guilty verdict, they would need at least 17 Republicans to agree with them. Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell expressed concerns that the former President would not have had time to properly prepare his defense and asked for the articles to not be sent until the 28th to ensure “a full and fair process.” Stefani Reynolds/Getty Images In a statement made by Pelosi on Friday, she said Trump “will have had the same amount of time to prepare for trial” as the House impeachment managers who will make the case to the Senate. Trump has hired South Carolina attorney Butch Bowers to defend him during the trial, while the House impeachment manager team consists of six representatives. We'll keep you updated as the pending impeachment develops. [via] View the full article
  5. Timbaland was trending a few days ago, after Middle Eastern and North African DJ specialist Nooriyah broke down some of Timbo’s biggest records that sampled Arabic songs. This isn’t anything new if you’ve dug into the producer’s catalog, even slightly. These enchanting, yet unconventional samples to the Western world were commonplace in Timbaland’s greatest hits, and have since evolved into new rap traditions. If you’re listening to the blistering sounds of the UK and Brooklyn’s drill sound, these hypnotizing vocal samples, largely coming from traditional music in the Eastern hemisphere, should also be familiar. CJ’s “Whoopty,” which has garnered praise from the likes of both Offset and Cardi B, among many other celebrities, was arguably one of the biggest drill tunes to close out 2020. It slowly began bubbling on the charts, earning the Staten Island rapper a major record deal with Warner. Meanwhile, "Whoopty," produced by pxcoyo, continues to blow up across platforms-- but CJ was far from the first to use that specific sample, though. The Hindi vocal sample which finds an appearance in CJ's "Whoopty" beat, among others, comes from Arjit Singh & Mithoon’s “Sanem Re.” It was then morphed into a ghastly loop, one which has seemingly helped propel the homegrown turf of drill music. “Sanem Re” is a love ballad, serving as the titular single for the soundtrack of Divya Khosla Kumar’s film of the same name. The guitars in the song naturally sound like they are a loop in some YSL-affiliate's record, making it an easily likable beat, while Arjit Singh’s euphonious melodies have been transformed into a riddim synonymous with the marginalized. One of the earliest glimpses into King Von’s brilliant storytelling was on 2019’s “Exposin Me.” Though it arrived as the cusp of Von’s underground buzz, it was littered with local lingo and cryptic messages only fully comprehensible to O’Block and its surrounding areas. But drill, like love, is a language in and of itself. Von and 600Memo swapped bars detailing real-life feuds and altercations in their neighborhoods, continuing to put a beaming spotlight on a neighborhood that has been largely disenfranchised. Personal shots were fired, neighborhoods were disrespected, and a response from the targets arised. FBG Duck and Rooga retaliated fire with their own remix of the song, smoking opps and disrespecting the fallen. The reality of it is grim, and smoking apps ignorantly became the Internet’s most disrespectful meme. In the wake of King Von and FBG Duck’s death in 2020, these two diss tracks cemented a feud that was taken to the grave. Outside of their own feud, the track was also remixed by Tay600, FYB J Mane, and more in Chicago. CJ’s “Whoopty” has more plays on YouTube than Von or Duck’s records combined, and even outside of the States, the production has been taken and flipped across several countries. Similar to the structure in Chicago’s frontrunners of the beat, Italy’s Rondo offered an aggressive, Mafioso-infused take on the record, sprinkling Von’s clean-cut flow with Duck’s aggressive tone in a record called “Face To Face.” It captures a recklessness and a sense of immortality and invincibility on wax, detailing the rebellion of gun-toting Italian youth, hanging out of Audi car windows in the city streets. In the Netherlands, Morrocan-born rapper Lijpe tackles the same sample with a different twist, hollowing out the production for a more roomy delivery. Frontrunners of Brooklyn drill’s movement have utilized this beat for their own community reporting, if you will. Bringing their audience into the volatile world of the streets. Pop Smoke and 22Gz had some of the most popular renditions out of the New York borough. However, under a microscope, it’s evident that the production, like Chicago, also took on a life of its own. Underground names like Curly Savage, Rah Swish, Eli Fross and Bklyn Bigz have further cemented in New York’s drill culture. And that extends out to places like the UK and Australia that harbor their own scene. Masked MC Richi, Simba Shore and #410 Smokey lit up the drill scene across London after remixing the song. A couple hundred thousand YouTube views later, Australia's Kush Mink gave an intimate glimpse into Melbourne, Victoria’s underworld in a little under 2 minutes. The most infectious loop known in drill currently came ways from its birthplace of Chicago, over 8000 miles to be exact. Will Hansford, Steve Chea & WMD took Arjit Singh’s amorous hums and looped them into a symphony of violence and mayhem. Arjit’s original speaks to the diaspora of Hindi-speaking Indians in the language of love. Similarly, the “Exposing Me” beat spoke to the trenches across the world, from its birthplace in Chicago to New York City, London, Australia, and beyond. Which version is your favorite? 6. Prior to President Donald Trump's grand departure from the White House, he spent his final night in the Oval Office signing executive pardons and commuting sentences for over 140 people, including Steve Bannon and Kwame Kilpatrick. He also helped out a few rappers in Lil Wayne, who received a full pardon, and Kodak Black, who was granted clemency. Unfortunately, despite reports that numerous "high-profile rappers" were set to be pardoned, Casanova, Suge Knight, Tay-K, 03 Greedo, YNW Melly, and countless others remain locked up. Broward's Sheriff's Office via Getty Images In YNW Melly's case, the fight doesn't stop here. The rapper has been promising his fans that he would be "coming home soon" for the last two years. He's currently in jail for double murder charges, in which he's accused of pulling the trigger on two of his friends, YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser. YNW Melly is facing the death penalty. His co-defendant, rapper YNW Bortlen, was lucky to be freed last year but Melvin remains behind bars. Bortlen is doing as much work as he can to get his buddy out of there, calling on President Joe Biden to get some work done. "@joebiden we need you to free @ynwmelly now," wrote YNW Bortlen on Instagram Stories. The rapper's social media plea is unlikely to sway the current President or his administration to do anything, but it was worth a try. Do you think YNW Melly will ever be released from prison? Or is his rap career finished? View the full article

  11. Following the events that happened at the Capitol building on January 6th, many Americans were begging for a smooth inauguration ceremony for President Joe Biden and VP this Wednesday (January 20). While the event did go smoothly, Vermont senator Bernie Sanders' and his park and mitten combo ended up stealing the show, quickly becoming the most-talked-about moment from the ceremony. He opened up about the viral moment in an interview on Seth Meyers' Late Night the following day, explaining that he was simply trying to keep warm. "Not at all," the senator explained when asked if he was aware of the meme developing from his inauguration look. "I was just sitting there, trying to keep warm, trying to pay attention to what's going on." He then went on to shout out the Vermont woman who knitted the mittens he donned. Considering the success of the meme, it is no wonder why the senator is now using its likeness for an act of philanthropy. As seen on the Bernie campaign store, the sold-out sweatshirts dubbed the "Chairman Sanders Crewneck" features an image of the now-iconic photo of Sanders in mittens and a cozy jacket. All the proceeds made from the sweatshirts will go to the Vermont non-profit Meals on Wheels Vermont, which delivers food to people in need in the area for people who cannot do it themselves. The demand has increased for their services since the pandemic. There's been no word yet from Bernie's camp on when the restock could happen, but we'll keep you updated as the story develops. 12. When Desiigner burst onto the scene with "Panda" back in 2016, fans were excited for what was to come. Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of his control while at G.O.O.D music, Desiigner wasn't given the chance he deserved. Despite this, the artist has always rallied and continues to drop new music. On Friday, he delivered a brand new banger called "GLE" and we're sure fans will appreciate this one. With this track, Desiigner can be heard sliding all over the beat, all while delivering that energy that he became known for. The beat complements his voice perfectly and if you're a fan of this brand of hip-hop, then the track will come as an immediate addition to any of your playlists. Let us know what you think about the track, in the comments below. 13. Polo G is widely praised as one of the most exciting new artists in the game right now, a narrative fueled by strong releases like his recent album The GOAT. And with the young rapper currently putting in work on his upcoming album, having been spotted in the studio with Young Thug, Offset, and Quavo, it's entirely possible that 2021 marks the biggest year of his career thus far -- a prediction previously shared by Cole Bennett, who foresaw number one hits in Polo's future. Scott Dudelson/Getty Images While it's unclear as to whether or not Billboard chart-toppers will come to fruition, it would appear that Polo is sitting on an unreleased jam with serious potential. In fact, the track in question is sampling the Michael Jackson classic "Smooth Criminal." Not quite so overtly as Alien Ant Farm's 2001 fascinating cover, but close enough to immediately capture attention. Lyrically, Polo makes sure to pay homage to the King of Pop, rapping "smooth criminal Mike Jack, and I still like to tote a 4-5 like Mike back / put a fuck n***a right on the pavement / he gon need a body bag or a nice sack." While the snippet has largely been deleted, curious listeners can still track down the eight-second preview on social media. From the sound of it, Polo's upcoming banger appears cut from the same cloth as Sada Baby's viral "Whole Lotta Choppas," and don't be surprised to see it become a viral hit upon its release. On that note, keep an eye out for more news on Polo's upcoming album, a project that may or may not contain his reimagined take on MJ's legendary classic. View the full article
  14. Rick Ross is known to be a giant football fan himself, attending the historically black college Albany State University on a football scholarship after completing high school in Miami. Like father like son, the 44-year-old label head's son William Roberts also plays football, currently playing on his high school team in Fort Lauderdale as a freshman. Despite his young age, the offensive player's skills are apparently so good he's already received full scholarship offers from Miami and Syracuse University. The 6 foot 2 inch 270-pound athlete is currently a 9th grader at St. Thomas Aquinas in Florida but has already received two major college offers after starting for a team that went 8-1 and even scored a 7A state title. The young player revealed the good news on Twitter Wednesday (January 20), adding he was "beyond blessed" for the opportunities. The young athlete will also likely receive tons of other offers according to the head coach at his school. “Will’s size, strength and athleticism have enabled him to play some quality time this season and start a couple of games,” said coach Roger Harriott to 247Sports. “He’s an extremely talented player and a well-rounded, character-oriented person. His best days are ahead of him.” The high school has produced athletes like Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa, San Francisco 49ers player Nick Bosa, and Cincinnati Bengals player Geno Atkins. 15. NLE Choppa has been one of the most interesting new artists in hip-hop over the last year, especially when you consider how he completely revamped his philosophy, seemingly overnight. The artist started out his career with extremely energetic and violent songs, but now, he is all about peace and tranquility, which is something we saw on his latest project From Dark To Light. Unfortunately, the artist has found himself in a predicament when it comes to his label situation and today, he dropped what he said is his last music video. The visual is for the track "Picture Me Grapin" which contains a smooth instrumental that will have you reminiscing about some 90s hip-hop. As for the music video itself, NLE is surrounded by beautiful women at times, while in other scenes, he can be seen driving a purple vintage car that definitely flashes on the highway. There are even some other scenes where he puts on a bald cap and does his best Tupac impersonation, which gives the video a nice and fun vibe. You can let us know what you think of the new video, in the comments below. View the full article
  16. Tensions between Kellyanne Conway and daughter Claudia have apparently continued to mount. The two have a documented history of being at odds with each other as a result of their different political views, as well as what Claudia claims is ongoing abuse at the hands of her mother. Like most of the disagreements between her and her mother, Claudia posted their most recent screaming match to TikTok, where she has more than 1.6 million followers. After Claudia posted a video to the app showing her mother swearing and screaming at her, someone reportedly called the police to do a welfare check on the family. After police arrived, Claudia began recording a TikTok of the conversation between police and Kellyanne (below), where she says she’d “like to go to family therapy,” and that they’ve talked about it before. In the video, police also suggest that Kellyanne should take away Claudia’s phone, as well as the internet, if they want things to settle down. Claudia vehemently rejects this idea, saying that she paid for her own phone, so they have no right to take it from her. Claudia has been accused of taking the videos and exposing her family for attention, but she insists that she is actually just seeking refuge and support from the abuse she endures from her mother. While we hope that the two can sort out their problems, it doesn’t seem as though they will stop butting heads anytime soon. TMZ reports that the police are still investigating the situation. 17. Last year, Paper Route CEO Young Dolph came through with Rich Slave, his sixth studio album. Now, months removed from its initial release, Dolph has come through to inject additional life into the project with a brand new Deluxe Edition boasting eight new songs. While there are plenty of bangers to be found throughout the updated drop, one of the highest points during "Green Light," a BandPlay-produced collaboration with Paper Route signee and frequent Dolph partner Key Glock. "Give me a weekend, I'ma turn it to a drop," he raps, his baritone cadence sounding at home over a piano loop. "The type of ni*ga turn your sister house to the spot / I'ma pay her bills and fuck her every now and then / He need thirty of 'em, my country boy in town again." Where Dolph opts for a steadier delivery, Key Glock brings a little bit of dexterity to the mix, staggering his lines to hit an interesting flow scheme. "Look, cold-hearted bastard," he spits. "South Memphis ni**a but my jewelry from Alaska / Fuckin' up the engine, drove the foreign like a NASCAR." 18. Antonio Brown has been a huge addition to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster this season and over the course of the last few games, he has delivered some big plays to the team. Unfortunately, Brown went down with what appeared to be a knee injury during the team's NFC Divisional Round matchup against the New Orleans Saints. After not returning to the game, there was some concern about whether or not Brown would be good to go in the NFC Championship Game. Throughout the course of the week, Bucs head coach Bruce Arians had said that Brown would be a game-time decision. According to ESPN reporter Jenna Laine, Brown's status has been downgraded to out, which is bad news for the team's offense. Quarterback Tom Brady still has plenty of other weapons at his disposal although Brown was a player who could provide some unique spacing and matchup differences out on the field. Without him, beating the Green Bay Packers will be that much more difficult especially with just how great the Packers have been this season. Both the AFC Championship and NFC Championship games are shaping up to be classics, and we can't wait to see the action go down this Sunday.- Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images View the full article
  19. Quavo and Saweetie have been dating for the better half of the California-bred emcee's career. They began their relationship back in 2018 and have been effectively inseparable ever since, appearing across each other's social media platforms as well as working together with each other on music. In a new interview with Page Six, Saweetie opened up to the publication about her relationship with the Migos rapper and the moment she knew their union was solid because of one of her biggest loves: food. Amy Sussman/Getty Images “The moment I realized that Quavo really loved me is when he saved me some of his food,” the “Best Friend” artist told Page Six. “He gave me his last piece of chicken.” “I wasn’t testing him or anything,” she continued, elaborating on the statement. “I’ll be coming out of a Zoom meeting or done doing something and he would have saved me some of his food.” “Those are the things that really matter: the things that have no price on them. The Bentley is cool but I’m really into intimacy and how you treat me with my emotional feels,” she added, referring to the customized luxury Bentley with "Icy" embroidered on the interior headrest the 29-year-old rapper gifted Saweetie for Christmas. Emma McIntyre/Getty Images for dcp The pair have been extremely open about their relationship, with the original DM Offset sent to Saweetie to pull the Icy Girl resulting in a pop culture phenomenon of people attempting to shoot their shots in a similar way. 20. Nasir Jones is easily one of the greatest lyricists in hip-hop history, a belief that was further validated upon the release of his recent album King's Disease. Produced entirely by Hit-Boy, Nas' twelfth studio album continues to stay in steady rotation, and today "27 Summers" was granted new life through some lavish visuals. So lavish, in fact, that the clip actually follows Nas as he hits the links for a round of golf with none other than DJ Khaled. Naturally, motivational speeches ensue. "The summer is ours every year," says Khaled. "Doing your thing at a high level? It's timeless." For the most part, Nas' latest video captures the spirit of a grown baller, with the legendary rapper living up on the links and dressed to the nines in his mansion. While it's not entirely the most original concept, it's clear that Nas has nothing to prove--what harm is there in flexing a little bit? And let's be honest, aside from ScHoolboy Q, not many rappers are out here repping the beautiful game of golf. Check out the video now, and should you be interested in exploring Nas' latest project further, read our exclusive interview with Hit-Boy, the producer of King's Disease, right here. 23. Fresh from his release of "Your Mines Still (Remix)" featuring Drake, Yung Bleu returns with a new single, "Ghetto Love Bird." The Alabama native gets personal on his latest effort where he croons out bars about an alternative romance with a "bad lil' b*tch... from the projects." The single comes in the wake of Yung Bleu stirring the pot by suggesting that he may be releasing a joint project with Drizzy. "We even talked about it before," Bleu recently told Billboard. "I don’t know if it’ll ever manifest to something real, but we have talked about getting in the studio and [coming up] with ideas on working on a collab project. It would flow perfect. That man flows perfectly on a song. That song was made for that n*gga’s verse. 25. They made magic when they came together for their mega-hit "Blurred Lines," and Robin Thick and Pharrell Williams are hoping to repeat their previous successes. Robin has been slowly releasing new music and recently, he announced his forthcoming project, On Earth, and in Heaven. Earlier this month, Thicke explained the inspiration behind the album. "I feel like I’m finally the person I set out to be. I’m able to laugh at anything, which I’ve realized is the greatest superpower. I’ve fully embraced it, and nothing has been better for my soul," said Thicke. "When I saw the phrase On Earth, and in Heaven, I realized that’s what I’m singing about: the people who aren’t here and the people who are here that made me who I am. This music is the sunshine coming out after the rain." Thicke has shared "Take Me Higher," a The Neptunes-produced track with Pharrell at the helm. Fans are praising this reunion, so stream "Take Me Higher," a track that sample's "Ladie's Night" by Kool & the Gang, and let us know if Robin Thicke has another hit on his hands.
