I read something about how the number of refineries in the US is affecting the prices as well. The station I work at... we get a fax daily with the lowest legal price we can ask for gas, the number is generally different per refinery (within pennies though).

The taxes on gasoline varies greatly from one state to the next. That may also be a major factor. I will pay attention and see what the taxes are on gasoline in Tx and get back with you. Then you will have a little better idea of where your money is going. :)

According to the Energy Information Administration, gas has dropped another 1.6 cents nationwide. According to this page, Minnesota and Ohio actually rose in price. Last week, Ohio was the lowest in the nation according to this website at $1.719 / gal.

On a side note, I personally filled my car last week with some regular unleaded gasoline in SPring, TX for only $1.689 ... and filled up again Sunday with supreme for $1.909

EDIT: Oh yeah... and if you have a truck that uses diesel, I saw a station on Hwy 290 that offered it for $1.48 / gallon.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
