I miss hanging out with my friends, drinking and laughing my ass off.  :(

Nah, you won't after a while. 9 times out of 10 I'm sober when everyone else is wasted. And you just sit back and laugh because YOU used to be that person.

Yup. and you know what else? What I didn't realize is that with 90% of the people I hung and drank with, that was really the only basis of our friendship. When I got sober, you know how many of them came over to hang or called me to see how I was doing?

Almost none of them. They're all still down the bar if I want to see them. And the people who are my friends today we have a relationship and interests that are based in REALITY. Life's too short to spend it having no idea wtf is going on...

And thanks everyone for all the condolences. Went to the wake this morning, saw some people I haven't seen in a while. My ex looked like she hasn't slept in a week. Christ we're all getting FAT. Fernando had his motorcycle helmet on his casket, and a couple of motorcycle t-shirts and a Yankees Suck shirt in there with him. Couldn't help but laugh at that. Signed the book and left before the funeral started. Just way too depressing.

Talked to my buddy from Boston on the cell driving back--jazz bassist extraordinaire Ron Carter is playing the Regattabar this weekend, maybe we'll go to that.

Actually, that's a good thing!! Pittsburgh has alway played well in bad weather. Now even though this is a domed stadium, and weather has no effect on the game, I see this as a good omen!!

He was absolutely kidding and he was talking about himself...not you. He would be horrified to think he offended you personally

I think Meth ment it as more of a generic type reply, as I know he would never mean something to be taken that way. To CTC, all I can do is off my heartfelt condolences, as I also know what it means to loose close friends. Now about the drinking thing. Generally if I take a drink, its at home, as I cant stand hanging around obnoxious drunks at pubs. When the wife and I go out to a pub its generally for supper, and possibly one drink each.

Warflower, hugs, and a big congradulations on the staying sober thing. Alcohol is not a bad thing if you can control it. If it starts to control you, then its time for a change, and I personally think you have made a very importatnt change in your life. Thumbs up to you. :good job:
