  1. In this time of a pandemic, the world is definitely in need of "Some Good News." This past Sunday, John Krasinski launched his new YouTube show called “Some Good News”, which consists of him sharing positive stories during our time of quarantine. For his first episode, he invited former co-star Steve Carell in honor of their 15th anniversary of The Office. During this episode, Krasinski confessed that he hopes the entire cast will have a get together after the entire pandemic is over with, “as people just saying hi.” Frazer Harrison/Getty Images Krasinski claimed he had “no idea” what he was doing as he began this show, but he wondered why there was no show that was dedicated entirely just spreading good news. “For years now, I’ve been wondering, why is there not a news show dedicated entirely to good news? Well, desperately seeking my fix somewhere else, I reached out to all of you this week, asking — nay, begging — for some good news,” he began. “And boy, did you deliver. After reading those replies and the incredibly heartwarming stories that came with them, I thought, ‘All right. Enough is enough, world. Why not us? Why not now?’ So, ladies and gentlemen, this is your fault, and this is ‘SGN.’ I’m John Krasinski, and if it isn’t clear yet, I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing.” During the majority of this show, it consisted mostly of stories inspired by fans tweets, praise for healthcare workers and those helping and providing food for the sick or elderly. As a product of this show, Krasinski invited 15-year-old fan, Coco, who just finished her final round of chemotherapy to share her good news. As she finished, she went home to her street filled with her neighbors cheering her on, encouraging her recovery. Kransinski told Coco that she was his new favorite hero. Stay tuned for the next episode of "Some Good News," and catch the debut episode below. View the full article
  2. He's entertained us in dozens of comedy appearances in film and television, but law enforcement's encounter with Miguel A. Núñez was no laughing matter. The current COVID-19 pandemic has caused people to purchase and hoard groceries by any means necessary, causing stores to change the way they deal with customers. Law enforcement officials in Los Angeles claim that Miguel A. Núñez attempted to shoplift from a Ralph's grocery store, but he states otherwise. Jason Merritt / Staff / Getty Images TMZ reports that the Juwanna Mann actor found himself in an embarrassing situation last week when he was at the checkout counter. The cashier alerted Núñez that the credit card he was using had been declined, and instead of retrieving another method of payment, Núñez reportedly walked out of the store with his cart. According to the report, Núñez didn't face law enforcement at the time and was allowed to leave. However, when he tried going back to the store just days later, he was told he couldn't enter and police were called to the location. Due to the COVID-19 quarantine, L.A. officers aren't detaining citizens who are "arrested" for minor violations. "Police cited him for misdemeanor shoplifting and he was sent on his merry way," TMZ wrote. Although Núñez wasn't taken into custody, he was still "arrested," according to the law. Yet, Núñez shared his side of the story and stated things didn't exactly unfold the way law enforcement said they did. The actor claimed that he was in a long line and when he grew tired of waiting, he just left. He added that he intended on returning to the Ralph's store to pay for the $200 worth of items, but the manager told him he couldn't because he "wasn't special." He'll have to wait to find out which version of events will be believed in the end. [via] View the full article
  3. TikTok is the latest social media platform to dictate what the next biggest hit is going to be. "The Box" by Roddy Ricch has been killing it on the Billboard Hot 100 since its release in late December and its largely due to the success of the viral challenge that went along with it. That being said, it feels like if you're planning to have a hit single, an accompanying TikTok video might be necessary. John Phillips/Getty Images Though it seems contrived to launch a dance or a challenge to aid the success of a song, it seems like Drake's getting in on the fun. A new snippet of one of his unreleased songs surfaced online earlier today which is rumored to be called the "Tootsie Slide." The dance shares the name with the song and it appears that people are getting ready to "Tootsie Slide" into the summer which hopefully isn't ruined by the coronavirus. The rapper slid in the comment section of a post to confirm that he will be releasing the song sometime soon. "I'mma drop soon since ya'll got it going insane," he said along with a laughing emoji. Surely, this is part of Drake's slow rollout of his forthcoming project. He's released a few tracks so far such as "Chicago Freestyle," "When To Say When," and the UK drill inspired, "War." Though it's unclear if those songs will land on a project, at least we'll be able to get through the lockdown with some new vibes from Drizzy. View the full article

  5. Celebrities have come forward to use their platforms to bring awareness to social distancing and COVID-19 relief efforts, but the public has often been biting toward their requests. Some famous figures have announced their generous donations to non-profits or directly to healthcare workers, but when Pharrell Williams asked for his followers to donate to the Frontline Responders Fund, he was met with backlash. Jamie McCarthy / Staff / Getty Images The award-winning artist shared a link to a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign that has raised over $4 million to date, but not everyone thought it was appropriate for the multi-millionaire to ask donations. "Hospitals are running low on masks, gowns, and other critical items. We need to replenish their supplies," Pharrell tweeted. "Take action, make a donation, and ask others to join the fight. We’re in this together. Let’s protect the responders on the frontlines." On person reminded him that he's "worth over $150 million" and that he needs to "donate [his] own money." Pharrell told the Twitter user that he just wanted to find a way for people to help. “So sorry if i wasn’t clear. I of course donated but wanted to make sure my followers had a way to get involved if they needed too." Recently, Metro Boomin called out those who were giving rich people a hard time about how much money they're donating to relief efforts. Do you think the rich and wealthy should ask the public to donate? [via] View the full article
  6. It's been less than a month since Lil Uzi Vert released Eternal Atake as well as the deluxe edition which served as LUV Vs. The World 2. Perhaps the double dose of music that he released was meant to compensate for the long wait period fans endured for both projects. Or maybe, Lil Uzi Vert is just in a giving mood. The rapper hit Twitter earlier today where he teased the release of even more music. Kevin Winter/Getty Images "I can't wait to drop again I got some shit," he tweeted before hinting at even more clips of music. "This shit sound like the streets," he added. What's interesting is that after the release of Eternal Atake, he began teasing the deluxe version of the album. Initially stating that it would be eight songs, which is already more than most bonus tracks included on your average deluxe edition, he released the "second half" of the album with an additional fourteen tracks. Eternal Atake and LUV Vs. The World 2 proved to live up the hype and also marked Uzi's ascent into rap stardom alongside major names. Pushing 288K units in the first week of Eternal Atake's release, he reclaimed the number one spot on the Billboard 200 for a second week in a row with an additional 247K units. 16. 21 Savage addressed Young Chop dissing him over Instagram live on Saturday by asserting that Chop is mentally unstable and proving that he himself does, in fact, own tons of jewelry. This weekend, Chop continued his dissing spree, which he began earlier this week by speaking ill of Meek Mill, Nav, French Montana, Lil Wayne, and more. 21 Savage found himself to be the victim of Chop's cutting words once again, when the rapper-producer hopped on IG live to trash another one of his hip hop peers. "I state facts," Chop began. "Yeah, I'm saying n*ggas' names. Yeah, 21, all y'all n*ggas some bitches. What's up? On God. I'm in Atlanta. And 21, we live in the same area. Tell the people that. We live in the same f*cking area. We go to the same Walmart, n*gga. What's up, n*gga. Let the people know that." He continued the clownery by dunking on 21 for supposedly never rocking any jewelry. "The reason you don't walk around with no jewelry," he said, "let them know that. With yo' b*tch ass. You a b*tch. And I walk around with all my jewelry on. And my sh*t real. F*ck wrong with you?" Other than sheer boredom or perhaps a case of cabin fever that's driven Chop mad, it's unclear exactly why he's decided to go after a myriad of fellow rappers. However, it looks like 21 Savage wasn't too bothered by Chop's harsh words, instead finding a little humour in the diss. 21 posted a photo of Chop on his IG story early Sunday morning, indicating in the caption that the man has absolutely lost it. "Make sure y'all go get his tape when it drop cuz he need da clout and pray for him cuz he done lost his mind," he wrote, along with a black heart and a sword emoji. 21 also addressed Chop's claims that his ice is either fake, or that he doesn't own any to begin with, by showing off some of his luxury watches. "Dis n*gga Yung Chop said 100K," he wrote along with some laughing emojis on a photo of the impressive collection. "Dis aint even half." Meek expressed similar sentiments about Chop's "obvious" instability, after he dissed Meek by calling him "scary" prior to his 21 Savage rant. "It’s obvious chop having some mental issues, Meek tweeted. "Y’all be gassing stuff so much y’all just gone ignore it! I been getting beats from him for years hope he get well." Who do you think will be Chop's next target? Or would you rather these antics be put to rest? View the full article
  17. If there's one word to describe the current state of affairs, it's spooky. Things are scary out here in the wake of Coronavirus. Earlier today, Dr. Anthony Fauci estimated that COVID-19 would claim 100K-200K lives in America. Just days before this estimation was made, Mir Fontane came through with his latest banger, "Spooky" in response to the pandemic going on across the globe. Loud Pack and Khoality Beats teamed up to cook up the piano-laden production that has an equally eerie feel to it but the song slaps. The bass kicks in and Mir Fontane pops out with a melodic flow. He details preparing for the apocalypse while finding a parallel the pandemic, the streets and the music industry all at once. Check out his latest joint below and keep your eyes peeled for more new music from Mir Fontane. 18. Three generations of UK grime and hip-hop have joined forces for a brand new collaborative project. Skepta, Chip, and D-Block Europe's Young Adz joined forces for their new joint effort, Insomnia. Locked in with 12-tracks, they deliver bangers on bangers at a time when it feels like we need some heat to get us through the times. Track five on the project, "St Tropez," is an immediate highlight from the project. Production-wise, it stands out with an evident influence taken from jungle and garage but they also pay homage to another groundbreaking, albeit controversial, artist the UK scene -- M.I.A. They slyly flip her bars as they appropriately apply to their rise from the trap to stardom. Bonafide hustler makin' my name. Surely, it rings true to their success. Peep the track below. 19. Trapboy Freddy and Yella Beezy may have been briefly rumoured to have beef in the past, but whatever may or may not have transpired between them has been put to rest with their latest collaborative effort, "Let Me Find Out." The two Dallas natives delivered the sneaky single, which details a secret affair between the track's speaker and a woman cheating on her man, on Friday. The song is catchy enough to keep you entertained, with Freddy's nasally delivery of the hook, "let me find out," establishing a repeatable tagline. Yella hops on the track about halfway through, carrying on the same adulterous themes that Freddy previously established. Possessing a choppier flow, Yella's presence creates a nice contrast that still fits with the vibe of the track. To accompany the track, Freddy and Yella also dropped some visuals, which shows the rappers surrounded by dancing women and has Freddy messing around on the piano. "Find out" for yourself if "Let Me Find Out" bangs. 20. The air was crisp as I walked down the crowded Los Angeles streets. Songs like "C.R.E.A.M." and "Gravel Pit" shaped so much of my childhood that it felt like a dream to be meeting up with the creator of the magic. Born Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, RZA is the mastermind that transformed from rapper, to music producer, to movie soundtrack curator, to actor, to movie producer. His evolution is dizzying, much like his work ethic. RZA is almost a mythical creature at this point in his career, toiling away both in front of and behind the scenes as if he never made it at all. The Wu-Tang Clan's de-facto leader ascended humanity long ago, and entered the stratosphere of legend. RZA stood taller than I expected. He walked into the hotel room with the energy of a lion: regal, dangerous, and wise all at once. When he spoke, his voice was a booming bass that reverberated around the Los Angeles hotel room. His movements seemed calculated, like an android from Westworld following a loop. We sat down over a cup of TAZO tea and discussed the inner workings of a genius. RZA was set to return his TAZO retreat, entitled Camp TAZO: Zen, which is a two-day creative retreat that took place in February. Ten select creators took part in activities and experiences designed to help them take their creativity to the next level. Alongside the retreat, RZA dropped off five unique Guided Exploration tracks aimed at helping anyone, anywhere explore and unlock their creative potential. Prior to the retreat and release of the tracks, RZA and I spoke about his inspirations, his creative process, and he even hinted at big things coming for season 2 of Hulu's Wu-Tang: An American Saga. This is our second interview with RZA. Read the first one here. David Livingston/Getty Images HotNewHipHop: What brought you to collaborate with TAZO? You have this esoteric vibe and this seems like a good fit, but how did it come to fruition? RZA: It was an organic fit. My agency reached out and they had a deck that TAZO had prepared. They sent it to me like ‘do you want to be part of this campaign,’ I was like ‘It’s natural.’ Because it’s part of what I do naturally, which is spreading this culture. Spreading ZEN. It’s 2020, everybody is trying to get on this health kick. What really sets this retreat apart? What is something that you put into this that you feel is really different? Well, first of all, it’s definitely 2020 and I’m glad people are trying to have more knowledge of their health. Put their health in front of their wealth. You can have all the wealth and not no health, ya mean? But, our exploration is not just about the physical health of things, it’s an exploration to unlock the potential out of people who may not think they got creativity. Out of people who are creative but don’t get a chance to focus on their creativity based on (what) they’re chasing. Whether they’re chasing the dollar, or they’re surrounded by distractions because of family, friends, or even just the noise in the world. To help un-stagnate that. Because in the midst of all that, I’m still creative. Elaborate further. We doing explorations. We got one called “Kill The Noise.” Meaning, you know, how do you center yourself in the midst of all the confusion around you, and still be yourself? Well, I use the sun as an example of that. Imagine what’s rotating around the sun, beyond our planets, the comets, the asteroids. Everything just twirling but the sun is centered still. That’s its job. So, that same mindset can be done in a creative aspect for a person. Whether he’s in the studio, whether it’s the writer with the pen and he has writer’s block ‘I can’t write, I can’t write.’ I won’t deny that certain places are better for certain things, but at one point I couldn’t write in certain locations. I wrote one of my best lyrics at this lake in Ohio, and I never released the lyric. But I know that this is the masterpiece. When I read it, it’s almost like a scripture. But then, back in the city, I was like ‘I wanna go back there and write again.’ I remember when Nas was like ‘Yo, sometimes I hit the hotel, get an L for the weekend hit the hotel and just write.’ And that’s New York City, just go into that… it’s still noisy, but it’s still a different energy. Point being made by saying that to you is that some people feel like things around them are stagnating them… just like there’s a focus to make your muscle move. There’s a focus to make that energy of creativity move. And that’s “Kill The Noise.” Was there a demographic you were going for with these TAZO Exploration tracks? Or was this something you put out for everybody? Yeah, it’s no demographic. There are probably certain demographics that need it more than others, right? It’s just like, some people like ‘he trying to bring this to the hood.’ Listen. The hood could use some things better, are more vital, in some areas. Just like people in the desert need water more than people who live near the ocean right? (laughs) But water is for everybody. So, talk about your influences a little bit. You hopped around a lot as a kid. You were in North Carolina, Ohio, PA, New York. How did those different cultures influence how you think? I think that was one of the blessings of life for me is being able to live in different communities and places. Because it automatically goes to a diverse way of thinking for me. And then if you think about the Wu-Tang Clan, right, we got diverse personalities in my crew. I have 11 brothers and sisters, you watch the TV show we can’t show 11 that’s the whole damn season [laughs]. I’m from a family of 11. You have also traveled quite a bit, and we know Wu-Tang has lots of Eastern influence. Tell me about a traveling memory that stands out to you. First thing, let me say one thing about China. I hope you make it there one day. In one city I went to, they built a scale version of another city. Like so, you’ve heard of the Forbidden City? That’s where the king, all the shit… that’s probably three times the size of any Hollywood stage. And they recreated that?! Exactly! And it’s just a set. So, that park I was in wasn’t a famous park of nothing like that. But it still was like Central Park. Central Park is about… it starts on 59th street and some of it goes up to about 96th. Basically 20-30 blocks. Man, this park was already bigger than Central Park. How about when it comes to working on movies? Have you ever had creative differences with actors or writers? One actor told me that, ‘Yo, I don’t wanna die.’ But I said, ‘In the script, you die brother,’ (laughs). ‘Yeah but I don’t want that character to kill me’ and I’m like ‘wow.’ Because it became a competition. So I’m like 'Okay, you gonna die. That’s a fact. I can switch it up, I can get you killed by someone else. I can work with that.' In fact, so he told me also he had a crush on another character. I said, ‘You know what, I’ma have that character kill you.’ It’s going to be more artistic for me. That’s art right? But that’s also the creative force happening. What would be your advice to young black men trying to follow in your footsteps, trying to get into this industry? I would say to a young writer that, first thing I would tell them, write regardless of whether you’re getting paid for it or not. That’s the first thing I tell them because Picasso couldn’t even imagine how valuable his paintings were going to be. So, your experience is what you’re capturing when you’re writing. Or your imagination, or your opinion. So it’s unique. In the fact that it’s as unique as your fingerprint. You gotta keep leaving your fingerprints everywhere. And eventually, right, the value of it, whatever that value is, is going to manifest itself. That painter starts on a blank canvas, it’s just paper and oil. Until it’s complete. One of our points of our exploration is also about the idea that people get on a paper chase. Talk about chasing the money, we don’t get a chance to develop our, and evolve our, skill and talent. And the money comes in front of the talent. And I’ve said it to rappers after the 90s and the 2000s came in. I kinda met a few West Coast rappers and whatever. I just told them ‘Yo, by the time I was heard as an MC on the mic as far as 36 Chambers... I probably already wrote 400 different lyrics. So now, my shit is condensed. Like think of Inspectah Deck, ‘I smoke on the mic like smoking Joe Frazier/ the hellraiser/ raising hell with the flavor.’ That was cool for then. But he was writing for ten years before he got to that. And then, by the time he got to that, the world accepts it… but those lyrics are mediocre compared to when ‘Triumph’ comes out. Now the same rapper says, 'I bomb atomically, Socrates' philosophies/And hypotheses can't define how I be droppin' these/Mockeries, lyrically perform armed robbery/ Flee with the lottery, possibly they spotted me.” That’s just four lines. He just gave you the whole history of civilization and pulled off a bank robbery [laughs]. So, that’s because that pen never stops. So I would advise a young writer, don’t do it for the money. Last but not least, Wu-Tang: An American Saga… everybody is waiting on the second season. Can you give us anything as far as scope, story… are we going to get to see any other rappers from hip-hop history? Only thing I gotta say about that is that, first of all, I wanna thank all the fans. For supporting the show. A lot of people didn’t have Hulu and actually got Hulu… they did a little bit of analytics. And it was like it attracted new customers, I wanna thank the people who tuned in for it. It’s not easy to get a second season in today’s climate. We have one. And I can assure them we’re in the writer’s room and if you liked the first season we are striving with full thrusters to make it better. View the full article
  21. The Coronavirus pandemic is striking North America hard but the United States is facing far more cases currently in comparison to the rest of the world. It was reported this week that the United States has the highest amount of cases as it recently reached 81,378. This means that it's surpassed both China and Italy but unfortunately, it looks like the numbers will keep climbing. Drew Angerer/Getty Images Dr. Anthony Fauci, who serves as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, went on CNN where he revealed that the United States is expecting millions of cases but what's scarier is that the death toll will likely hit six-figures. He said that there's anywhere from 100K to 200K Coronavirus deaths expected from Coronavirus currently. The millions who will contract the disease aren't even part of the worst-case scenario which he describes as a model that estimates the impact of the virus. I would say between 100,000 and 200,000 cases," he said before correcting himself and adding that's the estimated death roll. "We're going to have millions of cases." He did add, "I don't want to be held to that" because the pandemic is volatile. The number of deaths in the United States doubled in the past twenty-four hours, bringing the toll up to over 2,000. It appears to be extremely unlikely that it would be safe for the country to reopen by Easter as the president previously suggested would happen. Given the fact that Fauci's been heavily involved with the developments in the COVID-19 pandemic, it would be wise to listen to him in this situation. [Via] View the full article
  22. If you keep seeing Instagram posts captioned, "until tomorrow," everywhere, don't worry, you're not going stir crazy. The latest Instagram challenge, which has IG users posting random and/or embarrassing photos of themselves along with the cryptic phrase, "until tomorrow," arose out of nowhere, and for seemingly no reason. The lack of context for the photos coupled with the damning and vaguely threatening tagline makes it difficult to decode the purpose of this particular challenge, but it's actually a lot less creepy than it may at first appear to be. Justin Sullivan/Getty Images While the origins of the challenge are unknown, whenever a user participates, they must privately message every person who liked their post and tell them to post their own ridiculous photo of themselves and leave it up until tomorrow—hence, the name of the game. The challenge gained traction as a result of folks desperately seeking a way to distract themselves from the current state of affairs, and the harmless and lighthearted nature of the trend seems to be the perfect way to stay amused amid these difficult times. While the words "until tomorrow" may implicate the end of the world to some, it's really just a fun way to engage with the world while we're all keeping our distance from another. 23. Frank Ocean previewed two new songs—"Cayendo" and "Dear April"—during his PrEP+ club night back in October, and now, those tracks have finally been released to the public. Shortly after Frank gave attendees of the surprise event in NYC a taste of his new music, he listed both songs for pre-order as 7" vinyl singles, and it looks like, 6 months later, fans are finally receiving their much-awaited purchases. Each record features an acoustic version of the given track on the A-side, with the Sango and Justice remixes that were also teased at the PrEP+ party on the B-side. Leaks of the songs have already begun surfacing online, as fans eagerly recorded their spinning turntables to share the magic of Frank Ocean with the rest of us. According to a Frank Ocean archive account on Twitter with the handle @blondedblog, each single comes with a digital download card, so there's a chance the tunes will be more widely available for unofficial streaming. For now, however, the acoustic versions of "Cayendo" and "Dear April" along with their respective remixes can be found on Soundcloud. 24. Offset and Cardi B's relationship drama have unfolded in the public eye before but they've clearly committed to being with each other through thick and thin. However, a recent livestream sparked speculation that he might be up to no good. Social media users quickly spotted the rapper trying to hide his phone as Cardi B entered the room. Initially trying to slide it into his pocket before realizing his jeans could be too tight, he did what we all do -- slid it underneath his butt. Given Offset's history, the court of public opinion deemed Offset guilty of cheating on Cardi in the midst of the quarantine madness. However, it appears that he hopped on Instagram Live to clear the air surrounding the situation. "Got folks out here dying. You wanna focus on something negative. We got too much negativity," he said. "That's why we can't get no money. Can't none of us get no money." The rapper explained that people were simply making something out of nothing. Perhaps he has a point seeing as he laughed as Cardi exited the room. It seems hard to believe that he would've even acknowledged that he hid his phone during a livestream with thousands of people watching him. "Don't kill the vibe, man. We vibin', man. I'm with my family, you know what I'm sayin'? We together everyday. I hope you with yours everyday," he said. "We don't need none of this negative, hateful, making something out of nothing for no reason. We good over this way." Check his response below. [Via] View the full article
  25. "Before You Catch The Virus - Watch This" is some good advice, as motivational speaker Prince EA's PSA to the pandemic-impacted world bears a strong and powerful message. The viral video begins with Prince EA dressed in a hazmat suit removing a gas mask, before giving a spoken word, slam poetry-style speech about some kind of "virus" that's destroying the world. Of course, our first instinct is to assume he's talking about coronavirus, as he lists off all the ways that this "thing" that's "spreading like wildfire" is changing the ways we live our lives. The "thing" is keeping us inside our homes, shutting down countries, and selling out toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Win McNamee/Getty Images However, after convincing his viewers to be overwhelmingly afraid of the threat of COVID-19, Prince switches up on us. "Friends I'm not talking about coronavirus," he says. "No, this is a virus even more deadly. The 'F' virus." The "F" turns out to stand for "fear," which Prince stresses lives through technology and the media and is controlling us. While this slightly corny message may at first seem to be leading to some kind of conspiracy theory about the "truth" about coronavirus, Prince's message is actually about uniting the world. On a "love is more powerful than fear" type beat, Prince emphasizes the damage that senseless fear-mongering can have, and urges everyone to look at the ways that the world has been coming together (while keeping their distance) to stay positive. "We are waves from the same sea," read a poem from Japan on supplies sent to China. Emphasizing the importance of social distancing and flattening the curve, Prince also emphasizes the equal importance of "being alert, not fearful." Check out the video below and stay safe!
