  2. R. Kelly's crimes have been deemed so serious that not even a global pandemic will get him released from prison. The disgraced singer, accused of sexually abusing dozens of underage girls, entered a bid to be released from jail early. He argued that, until his trial, he should be allowed to spend time in home confinement so that he can properly practice social distancing. As we saw in one particular inmate's video, conditions are rough in prisons across the country right now and, due to his age, R. Kelly says he's more at risk than others. Unfortunately for him (and fortunately for countless families affected by his actions over the years), Kelly will not be getting out despite the growing threat of COVID-19. Noting that he is still considered a flight risk and a threat to the witnesses in his case, R. Kelly was denied an early release. Cook County Sheriff’s Office via Getty Images "[Kelly] is currently in custody because of the risks that he will flee or attempt to obstruct, threaten or intimidate prospective witnesses. The defendant has not explained how those risks have changed," wrote the legal documents preventing him from leaving jail. The judge confirmed that there are currently no confirmed cases of coronavirus at the Chicago facility where R. Kelly is being held. She also says that she's not buying the singer's claim that his age places him more at risk than others, arguing that his surgical history does not either. R. Kelly is currently in prison as he awaits his trial, which is likely to be delayed due to the spread of COVID-19. It was originally scheduled to begin in July, but outlying circumstances have likely prevented that from happening. [via] View the full article
  3. Deep divers rejoice, for the lord and savior Aesop Rock has come through to bequeath a trilogy of tracks upon us. Following "Play Dead" and "KOWP" off his entirely self-produced soundtrack to Freedom Finger (Music From The Game), Rock has come through with the tense "Drums On The Wheel." Taking to an ominous guitar-driven instrumental, Rock wastes little time in administering a ridiculous flow-scheme. "Do you read me? Do you read me? Do I need to reach through the TV?" he raps. "Do I need to reach through the ouija? Houston, I may have gone too Houdini, I'm too uneasy." When it comes to the art of characterization and world-building, few can rise to the task with the immersive brilliance of Aesop Rock. Though seldom direct, his ability to be in several places at once solidify him as a truly unique voice in the pantheon of great hip-hop writers. Plus, he can produce his own beats, and does so wonderfully on arguable album highlight "Drums On The Wheel." Check it out for yourself below, and make sure to adjust your thinking caps accordingly. QUOTABLE LYRICS Do you read me? Do you read me? Do I need to reach through the TV? Do I need to reach through the ouija? Houston, I may have gone too Houdini I'm too uneasy, I'm out of phase, and I'm orange Tang, and I'm powdered eggs And my radio has been down for days, I just stand around and sound out the phrase It go do you read me, shook up shoe to beanie, y'all look for the moon graffiti View the full article

  5. Tracy Morgan is one of the funniest men on the planet but, as you all know, there's a time and place for everything. When he appeared on Today via video call, the comedian was asked about how he's been holding up during this hard time. His response shocked Hoda Kotb, as well as everybody watching at home. "Me and my wife been quarantinin' it for like three weeks so she's pregnant three times," joked the actor, failing to read his interviewer's reaction. "Every week she got pregnant. We're also role-playing a lot now. She's playing a young maiden whose grandfather was infected with coronavirus and I'm the scientist who discovered the cure and she'll do anything to save her grandfather's life. I mean anything!" Nicholas Hunt/Getty Images Hoda Kotb had no clue what to say in response, hitting Morgan with a simple, "You are a creative one..." before completely switching up the subject. We're sure nobody was expecting this kind of appearance from Tracy Morgan on Today. Elsewhere in the same interview, the comedian also speaks about the new season of The Last OG, which was much more family-friendly. Watch Tracy Morgan's bizarre morning show appearance below and let us know what you think. View the full article
  6. Hulk Hogan is easily one of the most accomplished wrestlers of all time although, over the last couple of decades, he has certainly had his fair share of controversies. Now, Hogan is weighing in on the Coronavirus which has become the only news story people care about. Thousands of people are being infected with the virus every single day and now, there are over a million people who are suffering from it. Hogan took to Instagram where he unleashed a lengthy rant that spoke about religion and how this virus is an act of God. In fact, Hogan believes we don't even need a vaccine and that people should begin to focus on Jesus. Per Hogan: “God said, ‘you want to worship athletes, I will shut down the stadiums. You want to worship musicians, I will shut down Civic Centers. You want to worship actors, I will shut down theaters. You want to worship money, I will shut down the economy and collapse the stock market. You don’t want to go to church and worship Me, I will make it where you can’t go to church. [...] Maybe we don’t need a vaccine. Maybe we need to take this time of isolation from the distractions of the world and have a personal revival where we focus on the ONLY thing in the world that really matters. Jesus.” Well, there you have it. If you've been waiting for Hogan's analysis, now you have it. Hogan seems pretty confident that God is behind all of this although perhaps it would be best to seek the advice of an actual doctor. [Via] View the full article

  9. One of the most distinctive voices in R&B is back. We've seen more of Toni Braxton on reality television that we have heard new music from the accomplished vocal powerhouse. She returned over the weekend with a new single, "Do It" along with news that she's signed a contract with Island Records. On "Do It," Toni delivers a song that will surely become a break-up anthem for those who are finding it difficult to walk away from an unhealthy relationship. Lyrically, Toni is like the encouraging voice who tells listeners, "He ain't gonna change / If you take him back, it's gon' be the same / Just do what you need to do, do what you need to do." “We have all been through situations like this when there is really nothing more to say,” Toni Braxton said of her new single. “You know he’s not right and you just need to do what you need to do. There is also an element of hope in the song that after you do what you need to do, things will get better.” Check it out and let us know what you think. 10. For those that are used to a certain lifestyle, being under quarantine is a struggle. People who are accustomed to going out to barber shops, salons, nail shops, or visit estheticians are finding that maintaining their upkeep is a challenge on their own. Angela Rye shared her woes on Instagram Live as she recorded herself attempting to do her nails. She was vigorously filing down her acrylic nail that broke as her other fingertips were wrapped in foil. Paras Griffin / Stringer / Getty Images At one point, Angela stopped to show her viewing audience that the ferocious filing wasn't putting a dent into her chipped nail. In the clip, Angela Rye is seen wearing her around-the-house clothes sans makeup with her hair tied in a messy top bun. It's a normal look for all of us now that we don't have any place to go, but Charlamagne Tha God used the opportunity to send a playful jab to the attorney-business mogul. After the snippet of Angela's Live was shared to The Shade Room, Charlamagne couldn't help but draw a comparison to a certain movie moocher. "It’s really dope to see how far Felicia from Friday has come.....," Charlamagne Tha God joked in the comments. Coincidentally, the actress who portrayed "Felicia" in the Friday flick is also named Angela [Means]. Check out Angela Rye and clips from Felicia in Friday below. View the full article
  11. Even during a global pandemic, Hamilton fans can still get a show via video chat. John Krasinski along with the original Broadway cast held a major surprise for a 9-year-old Hamilton fan on the second episode of his new YouTube show, Some Good News. Krasinski formulated the idea once he came across a tweet towards Lin-Manuel Miranda from Aubrey, the 9-year-old’s mother. Kevin Winter/Getty Images "@Lin_Manuel We were supposed to see Hamilton in Jacksonville tonight—DD's 9th bday present (seeing Hamilton has been her dream since we saw her 1st Broadway show last year), but we're home watching Mary Poppins Returns instead. At least we're safe & healthy," the tweet read. In the episode, Krasinski was joined by his wife, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Anthony Ramos, Daveed Diggs, Okierete Onaodowan, Phillipa Soo, Christopher Jackson, along with other original castmates of the Broadway show. All members performed, via Zoom, the opening number for the musical, “Alexander Hamilton.” To make up for Audrey’s interfered birthday plans, John Krasinski promised Aubrey and her mother tickets to Hamilton in New York once the global pandemic is over. According to Vanity Fair, this was the first time the cast mates had appeared together with Groff since April 2016. Alongside surprising a cute and amazed Hamilton fan, this reunion was a tease on what’s to come for 2021. Disney announced earlier this year that a filmed version of Hamilton will be released October 15 of next year. Check out the new episode of Some Good News with Krasinski below. View the full article

  14. Blowing the “wind of God” might be the cure to the coronavirus according to a Texas Pastor. Just this past Thursday, Televangelist Kenneth Copeland held a sermon and stated that the pandemic will end “much sooner than you think” due to Christians all over praying for the country and announced that “the wind of God” will destroy the deadly virus. Last month, Copeland's sermon declared that COVID-19 was "finished" and that the United States was "healed and well again." In this latest sermon, which you can see in the clip below, the Fort Worth-based pastor blew his breath towards the camera so that God could kill the COVID-19 with heat and wind. "I blow the wind of God on you. You are destroyed forever, and you’ll never be back. Thank you, God. Let it happen. Cause it to happen," he declared. Copeland, along with a few fellow members of his church, chanted to an empty room calling out, "Wind, almighty, strong, south wind, Heat: Burn this thing, in the name of Jesus. I say, you bow your knees. You fall on your face." Three years ago, Pastor Copeland stated that God told him he needed to raise $300 million dollars for his ministry and will not let the Coronavirus stop him from reaching that goal. He's continued to urge viewers of his show to pay tithes, despite unemployment claims reaching new heights every week. This isn't the first megachurch pastor to hit the news during the pandemic. 16. Aside from the hoax-non-hoax drama that Flavor Flav has going on with his Public Enemy groupmates, he's also dealing with some issues with his latest baby mama. In October 2019, news surfaced that a woman named Kate Gammell had filed a paternity lawsuit against the 60-year-old rapper. For years, Kate reportedly worked as Chuck D's assistant before later working with Flav, helping to book appearances and sell his apparel. A DNA test reportedly confirmed that Kate's newborn son Jordan was indeed the latest Flavor Flav seed—it's rumored that the music icon has seven children. However, Kate recently made claims that Flav hasn't acted financially responsible for his child. Kate shared photos and videos of Baby Jordan on her Instagram page with a lengthy caption asking for people to purchase Flavor Flav merchandise to help her take care of her son. "Here is my son, Jordan, sitting surrounded by official Flavor Flav merchandise," Kate wrote. "Jordan is Flav’s son. I used to manage Flav but no longer do due to the obvious reason. I bought tons of merchandise when I was his manager and now I need money for my son’s everyday needs because I am not getting any child support, so decided to pull out all the merch and sell it to you." She added that she's selling off the merchandise "at a discount rate" before sharing that a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to a children's hospital. 23. Tom Brady made the shocking decision to leave the New England Patriots during the offseason and is now taking his talents to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady played 20 seasons with the New England Patriots and was easily one of their best players in franchise history. For many, Brady will go down as the greatest quarterback to ever do it and to see him in anything other than a Patriots jersey, will surely be bizarre. In a recent article for The Player's Tribune, Brady spoke about his decision to leave New England and had some well-deserved thank yous to give out. "But more than any one physical place, it’s the relationships I made in New England that I’ll miss the most," Brady said. "Of course, it starts with the entire New England Patriots organization, and Robert Kraft and the entire Kraft family. It extends to countless other individuals who played such a valuable role in my 20 years as a Patriot. Teammates and coaches, past and present." Maddie Meyer/Getty Images Brady also touched on how different it will be to play for another team although he is confident that this is an experience he has been waiting for. "Playing for one team for 20 years has been an amazing ride and experience. But doing the same thing year after year brings its own challenges," Brady said. "A familiar rhythm can be comforting and great. But it can also make you lose sight of other rhythms, newer ones that remind you of everything that hasn’t been done yet." Needless to say, the next NFL season will be a fun ride. [Via] View the full article
  24. The Weeknd proves that his week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 was not a fluke after remaining there for a second straight week, surpassing Roddy Ricch and "The Box" in consecutive campaigns. In addition to staying still at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart, The Weeknd is also the owner of the most popular song in the country, "Blinding Lights," as it was just announced that the After Hours record has inched past Roddy Ricch once again. Jean Baptiste Lacroix/Getty Images Spending its second week on top of the Billboard Hot 100, "Blinding Lights" becomes The Weeknd's longest-running No. 1 hit since "The Hills." This is a huge feat for the Canadian recording artist, who has been experiencing arguably the most successful run of his entire career this year. The first-week sales for After Hours were the highest in 2020, posing a threat to any pop/rap star who wants to contend with the best. Do you think "Blinding Lights" has what it takes to spend more time at the top or will it soon be dethroned? Doja Cat keeps on moving ahead with her viral hit single "Say So" and there is always the threat of Roddy Ricch re-claiming his spot. Alternatively, Dua Lipa is currently sitting at No. 3 with "Don't Start Now." Some are anticipating her move to the top soon. View the full article
  25. Ever since Revenge Of The Dreamers 3 landed in full glory, featuring several scene-stealing verses from J.I.D, it's been a relatively quiet follow-up period for the DiCaprio 2 emcee. That's not to say he hasn't been active, having embarked on a nonstop touring spree and put in behind-the-scenes work on a few upcoming projects, but fans have been waiting to see where the Atlanta lyricist goes next. Now, with new releases from Spillage Village and a No I.D.-produced album on the horizon, it's about that time for J.I.D. to slide back onto the scene with a vengeance. Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images At least it would be, were it not for this pesky quarantine going and throwing all the best-laid rollout plans out of whack. Now, we're all in the same boat, playing the waiting game until humanity can conquer its latest biological nemesis. In the meantime, J.I.D. has managed to make things a little better by previewing a new banger, seemingly produced by DJ Scheme. "Big bite no bark," raps J.I.D, riding a soulful instrumental with precision. "We ain't arguing, we don't talk to em' / but let me talk to him / shit, his homie died, we can part two him / sorry guys, I'm in a dark mood like a horror movie and I know the ending like I saw the movie."
