  1. It looks like Bobby Shmirda will be serving his full sentence, only getting out in December 2021. This summer, there were plenty of rumors that Bobby Shmurda would be getting out of prison prematurely. His family was offering all kinds of promising statements and his parole hearing, which kept getting pushed back, whispered hope into the rapper's ears. Unfortunately, the GS9 representative learned today that he would likely not be free anytime soon, remaining locked up for the foreseeable future. Neilson Barnard/Getty Images As reported by TMZ, Bobby was denied his parole today. He had a hearing with the board last week and, while no reason was specified as to why he wouldn't be getting out, he learned that he would most likely serve his full sentence. That means that, until December 2021, Bobby is likely to remain behind bars. The publication recalls several of the violations that Bobby has been handed during the last half-decade, including for drug possession, possession of a shank, fighting, and more. Brad Barket/Getty Images Bobby Shmurda's mother previously said that the rapper was ready to release new music if his parole hearing went well but, unfortunately, it looks like we'll need to wait another year for that to happen. 2. Da Brat is a legendary artist in her own right, who over the last year or so, has made an effort to talk more openly about her sexuality and the fact that she has been with both men and women. The artist is currently with Jesseca Dupart and they seem to be going strong. During a recent interview with Kandi Online, Da Brat was asked to speak about some of her prior relationships, including her time with basketball legend Allen Iverson. As she explained in the interview below, Iverson was a known cheater at the time and had been with various women. Da Brat noted that Iverson initially swept her off of her feet and she had even been given the opportunity to meet his parents. Despite this, she quickly found out that Iverson was sleeping around. The artist reflected on when she first clued in on this happening behind her back. “I was like, ‘This is it!’ But then I think you know, basketball players? H**s,” she said “He had a baby mama, some kids. He had a lot of stuff going on. [...] The last straw, I think we were sitting outside the hotel, in the hallway. And this half-naked b*tch walks up the hallway talking about she looking for him. I’m sitting there with him. I’m like, ‘B*tch, I know you see me sitting here with this n****. You still gon say you looking for him?’ I must have molly whopped that b*tch down the hallway.” Needless to say, the relationship eventually fizzled out, and now, both parties have settled down with their respective significant others. 3. With the next generation of consoles set to launch this November, Xbox head Phil Spencer recently secured a massive deal that immediately captured the attention of gamers worldwide. IGN reports that Microsoft has unveiled plans to purchase the gaming company Bethesda, as well as their parent company ZeniMax Media, for a staggering sum of $7.5 billion. Those who follow the gaming industry are likely familiar with Bethesda's works, be it through The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, or Doom. In fact, The Elder Scrolls 6, the follow-up to the 2011 classic Skyrim, would likely top more than a few most-anticipated lists. And now, in one fell swoop, Xbox has raised all sorts of questions and a shroud of uncertainty, prompting fears that some of gaming's biggest series would go on to be exclusive to a single console. Bethesda Game Studios executive producer Todd Howard expanded on the possibility of exclusivity, issuing a statement that has calmed the nerves of Sony fanboys -- albeit only slightly. "This one is about more than one system or one screen," he begins, in an official Bethesda blog post cited by IGN. "We share a deep belief in the fundamental power of games, in their ability to connect, empower, and bring joy. And a belief we should bring that to everyone - regardless of who you are, where you live, or what you play on. Regardless of the screen size, the controller, or your ability to even use one." At this moment, Phil Spencer maintained that exclusivity would come on a "case-by-case basis," though few could deny the sheer power move that making Elder Scrolls and Fallout Xbox exclusive would be. Of course, the sheer volume of ports that Skyrim has received has been oft-memed, and seeing such a universally beloved franchise limit its reach would feel like somewhat of a step backward for the gaming community -- albeit a major step forward for Xbox as a whole. How do you feel about this monumental deal? [via] View the full article
  4. The Weeknd is a groundbreaking artist, but you all knew that already. The Toronto native has enjoyed the tremendous success of his new album After Hours, which has boosted him to a whole new level of superstardom. "Blinding Lights" is one of the songs that the artist released prior to the album's release and, ever since then, it's been a mainstay on the Billboard Hot 100. And, we're not just talking about the chart in general. It's been near the top, and at #1 periodically, for much of this year. This week, the song clocked in at #5, which has given it a brand new solo record, passing Ed Sheeran's "Shape Of You" to become the song that has remained in the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 for the largest number of weeks in history. Passing Ed, The Weeknd spends his twenty-eighth week in the Top 5, which was announced today as well as the rest of the Top 10. Elsewhere on this week's update, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion remain at #1 with "WAP", spending their fourth week at the top. BTS, Drake and Lil Durk, and DaBaby and Roddy Ricch stay strong in the Top 5 with their own chart-hogging hits. Just outside of the Top 5 is "Mood" by 24kGoldn and iann dior, which continues to be a huge success for both artists. Congratulations to The Weeknd for breaking such a prolific record, and to everyone else in the Top 10. View the full article
  5. Ah yes, it is September 21st which means the Fall season is finally upon us. It's a joyous occasion as the horrible heat is finally going away and we can finally go back to wearing comfy sweaters in preparation for the cold. The Fall is also a great time for footwear as we see a lot more muted tones. This is especially true for those who wear Timbs or anything that contains some "wheat" tones. While the Nike Air Force 1 is typically the shoe that gets a "Wheat" offering, now, the Air Jordan 1 is going to get the classic Fall treatment. In the images below, you can see a brand new Air Jordan 1 Mid model that contains a black upper with some brown overlays and Nike swoosh. Overall, this is exactly what you would want for the Fall as it contains both Halloween and autumn aesthetics. If you're in the need for a shoe with a similar color pallet, this is easily one of the best options out. A release date has not been set for these so stay tuned as they should be hitting stores in the not-so-distant future. 9. Legendary comedian Eddie Murphy has won the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. Murphy's achievement was given for his performance as a host during an episode of Saturday Night Live. Amy Sussman / Getty Images For his appearance, he brought back iconic characters from his time as a cast member including Buckwheat, Mister Robinson, and Gumby. "Thank you to everybody at the Emmys. Thank you so much for giving me an Emmy," Murphy said during his acceptance speech. "I don't have an Emmy. This is 40 years since I started Saturday Night Live. This is my first Emmy, so thank you so much. I want to thank Lorne Michaels for putting this whole thing together and making this happen. And I want to thank the cast and the writers and the crew at SNL. This was a very very special thing for me to come back and have the show turn out the way it did. I'm still floating from it. And thank you to everybody for giving me an Emmy. “It’s so special because it was 36 years to the day since I was on the show. For it to turn out the way it turned out and this on top of it ... It’s just really really special.” Check out the acceptance speech below. [Via] View the full article
  10. President Donald Trump says he has approved a deal for TikTok's parent company, ByteDance to partner with Oracle and Walmart. The deal was approved just in time to avoid a shutdown in the United States, as Trump has threatened. Cindy Ord / Getty Images “I have given the deal my blessing — if they get it done that’s great, if they don’t that’s okay too,” Trump told reporters at the White House, Saturday. “I approved the deal in concept.” Oracle will become a minority investor with a 12.5% stake, while Walmart has agreed to purchase a 7.5% stake. "As part of this proposal, Oracle will become our trusted technology provider, responsible for hosting all US user data and securing associated computer systems to ensure US national security requirements are fully satisfied," TikTok explained in a statement. "We are currently working with Walmart on a commercial partnership as well. Both companies will take part in a TikTok Global pre-IPO financing round in which they can take up to a 20% cumulative stake in the company. We will also maintain and expand TikTok Global's headquarters in the US, while bringing 25,000 jobs across the country." “In addition, we would work toward an initial public offering of the company in the United States within the next year to bring even more ownership to American citizens,” a Walmart spokesperson said in a statement. Trump says the companies will contribute to donate $5 billion to an education fund. “We’re going to be setting up a very large fund for the education of American youth and that’ll be great,” Trump said. “That’s the contribution I’ve been asking for.” [Via] View the full article
  11. James Caan, who played Walter in Elf, says a sequel was never made because Will Ferrell and director Jon Favreau “didn’t get along.” Jerod Harris / Getty Images "We were gonna do it and I thought, ‘Oh my god, I finally got a franchise movie, I could make some money, let my kids do what the hell they want to do.’ And the director and Will didn’t get along very well,” Caan told Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan’s Bull & Fox, Friday. “So, Will wanted to do it, he didn’t want the director, and he had it in his contract, it was one of those things.” In 2003, after the release of the film, Ferrell shot down the possibility of a sequel. He did not, however, blame Favreau: “Absolutely not,” Ferrell told Uproxx. “I just think it would look slightly pathetic if I tried to squeeze back in the elf tights: Buddy the middle-aged elf.” Despite their alleged animosity, Favreau and Ferrell's Elf was an extreme success. With a budget of $33 million, the film was grossed $220.4 million in the worldwide box office. In addition to Ferrell and Caan, the film starred Zoey Deschanel, Peter Dinklage, Amy Sedaris and more. Nowadays, Favreau helms the Star Wars Disney+ original series The Mandalorian. [Via] View the full article
  12. Big Sean says fan can expect a new album from Twenty88, the duo consisting of Jhené Aiko and himself. Sean confirmed that the album is "in the works," while responding to fans on Reddit. Vanni Bassetti / Getty Images When asked about the potential project on Reddit, he responded, "It's in the works." Twenty88's last album dropped in 2016. Sean initially said a second album was coming in 2017, but it never came together: "Thank you the next @twenty88 album is coming next year. We gon get our solo's off too though! #Dons #Soulmates #88," Sean said in 2016. Sean's most recent album Detroit 2, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, just last week. Fans can be assured Sean won't rush an upcoming album for Twenty88. He recently spoke about working smarter, not harder, when it comes to the studio: "I was in the studio all day, I used to be like, I'm going hard," he said. "But really, sometimes I would be in the studio all day just forcing it as opposed to really being in there 'cause I was inspired. I used to think that the amount of hours you put into something translates into it being successful, but really, it's not about that. It's about working smarter." Check out Sean's Detroit 2 here. 13. Gordon Hayward is expected to return to the Boston Celtics lineup, during the team's Game 3 matchup against the Miami Heat, Saturday. Hayward will play on a minutes restriction. Mike Ehrmann / Getty Images "Celtics‘ Gordon Hayward is available to play in Game 3 vs. Miami after missing a month with ankle sprain. He will come off bench," The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports. The 30-year-old veteran has been sidelined for over a month, struggling with an ankle injury. Hayward injured his ankle during Game 1 of the team's first-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers. He then left the bubble, as planned, to join his wife for the birth of their fourth child. Hayward is averaging 17.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game this season. The team hopes Hayward will play a crucial role in lifting the Celtics out of the 0-2 hole they've dug themselves into, two games into the Eastern Conference Finals. Following the Celtics' Game 2 loss, reports surfaced of a major argument amongst the team in the locker room post-game. "Guys were emotional after a hard game. Hard loss," head coach Brad Stevens said when asked about the report. "It was nothing. It was nothing. I'm not speaking about it," added point guard Kemba Walker. 14. President Donald Trump says he will have a new Supreme Court nominee "very soon" to fill the seat of the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died this week after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Sarah Silbiger / Getty Images "If somebody were to ask me now, I would say that a woman would be in first place," he said. "The choice of a woman would certainly be appropriate." "We want to respect the process, and the process will move, I think it is going to move very quickly actually," Trump said. "I agree with the statement put out by Mitch McConnell. I agree with it actually 100 percent. I put out a very similar statement you saw, so I think we're going to start the process extremely soon, and we'll have a nominee very soon." "I think the choice will be next week, I do," Trump added. Democrats contest that the seat should not be filled until after the election. During former President Barack Obama's final year in office, he had the opportunity to fill Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat with a Democrat; however, Republicans countered that a seat should not be filled during the final year of a president's term. Democrats now expect the same from the Republicans as the situation is reserved. [Via] View the full article
  15. President Donald Trump told supporters at a rally in Minnesota that MSNBC anchor Ali Velshi being shot by a rubber bullet during a Black Lives Matter protest was “a beautiful sight." Sarah Silbiger / Getty Images "He got hit on the knee with a canister of tear gas," Trump says, confusing the rubber bullet for a canister of tear gas. "Wasn't it really a beautiful sight? It's called law and order." Velshi was hit while covering protests in Minneapolis following the death of George Floyd in May. "Alright guys, I got hit," he says before the camera cuts away. Contrary to what Trump said during his rally, Saturday, Velshi did not fall to the ground repeating "my knee." "Absolutely heinous. @AliVelshi didn’t deserve to be shot by a rubber bullet, anyone celebrating that violence has something wrong with them, and it’s twisted for anyone least of all a president to call it 'law and order.' No journalist should find this acceptable," CNN Correspondent Jake Tapper wrote on Twitter. "This is disgusting. Shame on you President @realDonaldTrump," added Piers Morgan. "Ali Velshi is a brilliant journalist who was injured doing his job. For you to celebrate that is despicable." "Freedom of the press is a pillar of our democracy," MSNBC said in a statement. "When the president mocks a journalist for the injury he sustained while putting himself in harm's way to inform the public, he endangers thousands of other journalists and undermines our freedoms." 16. Speaking about the Celtics emotional reaction to their Game 2 loss to the Heat, Draymond Green says winning teams argue more than losing teams. Ezra Shaw/Getty Images “The reality is, though, I think winning teams argue way more than losing teams,” Green said. “Because losing teams, they bicker. So if I’m on a losing team, I’m gonna come to you, Ernie, and say, ‘Hey man, Shaq ain’t pass me the ball and he’s freezing me out.’ And then you partner up with me, and me and you look at Shaq like he’s crazy. A winning team is gonna say, ‘Jayson, your body language was terrible in the first quarter,’ because that’s what I saw when I was watching the game. Their offense is on the run, they’re up a couple points, and he’s not touching the ball and he’s dropping his shoulders, but you’re the best player on the team. So yes, I am going to say something about that. “Winning teams will always argue more than losing teams,” Green continued. “And in fact, the media can love losing teams if they want, if they don’t want any arguing, and those teams will just lose, and that’s that.” After the loss, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that head coach Brad Stevens held a meeting with his players to "work through emotions." Marcus Smart was reportedly verbally upset with him teammates after the game. Woj explains, "Brad Stevens had a late night Thursday meeting with Celtics leaders – Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart – to work through emotions of post-Game 2 locker room. A lot of yelling in locker room, but nothing escalated to a physical confrontation." The Heat and Celtics will face each other once again in Game 3, Saturday night. [Via] View the full article
  17. Sony has apologized for their handling of the Playstation 5 preorders. The company says they will release more PS5 consoles for preorder soon for those who could not get their hands on one amidst the chaos. Tomohiro Ohsumi / Getty Images "Let’s be honest: PS5 preorders could have been a lot smoother," Sony said on Twitter, Saturday. "We truly apologize for that. Over the next few days, we will release more PS5 consoles for preorder – retailers will share more details. And more PS5s will be available through the end of the year." Earlier this week, after abruptly announcing the console would go on sale for preorder, September 17th, retailers jumped the gun and listed the Playstation 5 and Playstation 5 Digital a day early. Fans rushed to add the system to their carts, causing technical issues for most retailer websites. Shoppers who attempted to preorder through Amazon, Best Buy and more experienced issues. The free-for-all left many sony fans without a console and, at the time, seemingly no hope to secure one. Rival Xbox followed by throwing shade at Sony when announcing their preorder date: "Pre-order September 22. Worldwide launch in 36 countries November 10. Hype 9000+ (don’t worry - we’ll let you know the exact time pre-orders start for you soon)," the company said on Twitter. [Via] View the full article
  18. New Orleans Saints star wide receiver Michael Thomas will miss Monday's matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. An ankle injury will force Thomas to miss his first contest in four years. Sean Gardner / Getty Images With two minutes remaining in last week's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Thomas could be seen limping off the field, having suffered a high ankle sprain. There's no timetable for his return, but players usually miss 3-4 weeks after suffering high ankle sprains. Thomas did say he wanted to play through the injury, but the team is holding him out. The Saints have not placed Thomas on the injured reserve, which would require him to miss three games. This likely means the team expects to have him back on the field sooner, rather than later. "Well, I think we definitely have a next-man-up mentality," quarterback Drew Brees said earlier this week, regarding the possibility of Thomas' absence. "I think everybody's always ready to step into a role and fulfill that role. I think our coaching staff does a great job of putting guys in the best position to succeed and building a game plan around the strengths of the guys that we do have." The Saints will play the Raiders at 8:15 PM, Monday. [Via] View the full article
  19. Immediately following the shocking death of Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant, and seven of their friends, the world rallied around widow and grieving mother Vanessa Bryant. In addition to Vanessa's close friends, Kobe's teammates, and the millions of admirers worldwide, it was reported that Vanessa was also leaning closely to her mother, Sofia Laine, for support through such a tragic time. Most people with loving relationships with their parents would turn to them during a tragedy, but Sofia has recently sat down for an interview where she claims she's been kicked out of the Bryant home. Kevork Djansezian / Stringer / Getty Images In an interview that is set to air on Univision that is completely in Spanish, Sofia Laine claims that her relationship with her daughter is on the rocks. 20. The wheeling and dealing that goes on behind the scenes in the music industry isn't often understood by the layman, but fans trust it's for the greater good. We recently reported on Mary J. Blige revisiting the tale of how she decided to pass on Rihanna's mega-hit "Umbrella," and recently, Alicia Keys sat down with Stereogum and shared that Christina Aguilera was *thisclose* to belting out her chart-topper, "If I Ain't Got You." Kevork Djansezian / Stringer / Getty Images The single was included on Keys's sophomore studio album The Diary of Alicia Keys back in 2003 and eventually earned the singer a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. It's an Alicia Keys classic that is one of her most recognizable and beloved hits, but Keys said she almost let it slip through her fingers. “There’s a really funny, amazing story around this song. I think we were on the same label at the time. She reached out and was like, ‘Would you write something for me?’ And then it came through so many emails. What a voice!" Keys recalled. "I know I could write something fire for her. So time passed and I hadn’t written the song yet. And [the label] was like, “Do you have anything for Christina?’ I remember I had just recently written ‘If I Ain’t Got You.'" Because she didn't have another song on deck, Keys was ready and willing to pass along the track to Aguilera. When she told her A&R, he asked her if she was "f*cking crazy... We’re not giving her that song. Are you out your mind?’" Keys laughed at the memory. "I was like, ‘Why not? I’ll write a hundred more of those, it’s fine. I think she should hear it. I don’t really think it’s a big deal.’ But I thought, ‘Fine, I’ll go write another song.’" Keys said she ended up penning 'Impossible" for Christina Aguilera and sang back up. 21. It's been decades since the inception of Hip Hop, so naturally, generations of fans have latched themselves to the genre. In today's culture, it's not uncommon for those considered as "Old Heads" to be dismissed when they criticize Hip Hop's new waves, but rap legend MC Eiht isn't a fan of the older generation being kicked to the curb. While speaking with the Murder Master Music Show, MC Eiht lamented that Hip Hop is the only genre of music where artists seem to expire when they get to a certain age and he gave his take on why that is. "There should be no age limit! I know a lotta cats within Hip Hop think there should be some kind of age limit especially when you got new artists coming up who are trying to get their foot hole in the game," said Eiht. "Some might feel that a constant veteran who is still releasing projects might interfere with their progress. In no other genre does age discriminate as far as making music. R&B, Country, Pop—whatever it seems like—it's only in Hip Hop. I just think that's because it's more competition, a lotta dudes don't like competition, a lotta dudes like the easy walk, but I'm one of those cats who feel if you still can put out quality music and your fans accept it and still want to hear it, I feel you should go with it. " MC Eiht isn't the only artist who feels this way. Back in 2013, Missy Elliott spoke about this with The Breakfast Club, saying no one told James Brown he was finished when Michael Jackson came on to the scene. Check out MC Eiht's interview below. 22. Weeks after he caught heat for telling Star Wars actor John Boyega to be grateful for his place in the industry, Michael Rapaport is taking aim at Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion. The outspoken actor often adds his commentary to pop culture issues that make headlines, and "WAP" is certainly a subject that has a stronghold on social media. The explicit single became a No. 1 hit for the two rappers, but Michael Rapaport isn't a fan of the viral sensation. Rapaport shared an audio clip to his Instagram page where he complained about the song. "Yo, you're making club bangers, but we ain't got no club to go to. You're making strip pole music but we don't have a strip club to go to. We've had seven f*ckin' months. You've had seven f*ckin' months to come out with something articulating your personal feelings, the anguish, the pain, the sorrow, the uncertainty of where we are," he said of the recent civil unrest. "Just a single, and the best we got is wet ass p*ssy?" "Yeah, sure, J. Cole put out a couple of—these are not even good J. Cole songs, to be honest," added Rapaport. "Yeah, he says great things... C'mon man. C'mon. Do yourself a favor these next couple of days. Play Stevie Wonder on a loop. We're so disposable. We have access to mixtapes. We have access to every f*ckin' song. Just live with Stevie for a few days." Do you agree with Michael Rapaport? Listen to his post below. View the full article
  23. On Friday (September 18), Ruth Bader Ginsburg succumbed to her battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer. The Supreme Court Justice has been in and out of the hospital for some time as the 87-year-old addressed a number of growing health issues. She, along with her supporters, hoped that she would survive the next election, but unfortunately, Justice Ginsburg has passed on. Mark Wilson / Staff / Getty Images Thousands have gathered outside of the Supreme Court building for an impromptu vigil in Justice Ginsburg's honor and joined together in singing John Lennon's classic song "Imagine." Others have taken to social media to share in their grief about her passing. President Trump was asked about his thoughts regarding the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg immediately after the news was shared, but he hadn't been notified. "She just died? Wow. I didn't know that," President Trump said. "She led an amazing life. What else can you say? She was an amazing woman, whether you agree or not. She was an amazing woman who led an amazing life. 25. The TattleTales hype may have subsided, but Blac Chyna is still feeling the heat for helping 6ix9ine promote his latest project. Right before the album was set to hit streaming services, photos of Blac Chyna with 6ix9ine were shared to the colorful rapper's Instagram page. Chyna was nude aside from donning some strategically placed sprinkles, and much like Nicki Minaj, the model mogul was attacked for partnering with the rapper. Chyna addressed the controversy while speaking with L.A.'s popular Power 106 radio station this week. "I think business is business and if somebody's talented, they're talented. I feel like a lot of people should get out of their feelings and get into a bag," Blac Chyna said. "That's how I feel about it... If a lot of people stop worrying about the next person then they'll probably be more successful with anything that they do. I think people need to grow up, stay in your lane, mind your business, make your money, drink your water, eat your fruit." Nicki also addressed the naysayers that attacked her for working with 6ix9ine on "Trollz," telling them that she's not a person who lives by the code of the streets because she's not a gangster.
