  1. I can't believe all these men who have never been to war themselves are putting these young people's lives on the line to try and start a democracy in this cesspool. They havent even begun to start life yet. The fact that this administration didnt even plan for it is disgusting. :reallymad: :reallymad:
  2. Yep--I will check it out... I wanna read the chapter that includes 'it depends on what the definition is IS is..." It will be fun to see the Clinton haters come out of the shadows again and begin another relentless round of attacks--I've never witnessed a more sordid group of cretins in my life.
  3. A friend sent this short article and photos which describes the 'average soldier' in Iraq and the conditions they work in. I edited out some accompanying religious propaganda. ******************** The average age of the military man is 19 years. He is a short haired, tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to die for his country. He never really cared much for work and he would rather wax his own car than wash his father's; but he has never collected unemployment either. He's a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student, pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old jalopy, and has a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to rock and roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or country and 155mm howizzitor. He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk. He has trouble spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark . He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use either one effectively if he must. He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional. He can march until he is told to stop or stop until he is told to march. He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without spirit or individual dignity. He is self-sufficient. He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens full and his feet dry. He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle. He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts. If you're thirsty, he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food. He'll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when you run low. He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they were his hands. He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job. He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay and still find ironic humor in it all. He has seen more suffering and death then he should have in his short lifetime.
  4. Maybe they should change their name by using a hyphen ... :smokin:
  5. I think if someone buys one digital version, they should be able to do whatever they want it on any medium, including downloading it again
  6. For that kind of money, they should have hired some better dialogue writers. Bet they cheaped out on the grunt efx, too
  7. There are alot of truths within the article. However, most people dont understand that most theatrical films dont make profits until the DVD. Movies are expensive to make and market, and with consumers wanting something new every week, few movies last that long in the theaters. It should be also be noted that movies are mostly a margin business, particular with stars demanding 20m and a percentage of the gross. Last but not least, dvds are inexpensively priced compared to cd's and they come with extra's. Why they have all the extra editions though is beyond me...
  8. I do have an issue re filesharing of movies before they are released. Unlike music, the stakes are much higher. Movies are very expensive to make and market, and usually only begin to make their money at the DVD stage. And unlike the RIAA, the MPAA has been far better than the RIAA in terms of treating its audience respectfully. Finally, on a craftsman issue, movies are meant to be seen on the big screen - not a tiny one.
  9. There was a band (not Grand Funk Railroad, who did a tune We Are An American Band) aptly called The Dirty Americans, but they might be British: http://www.manchesteracademy.net/dirtyamericans.html
  10. Here's a handy resource that breaks rock down into various genres and periods: :read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_and_roll

  15. Hmm...wasnt that the title of an album, not a song? Correction - it was both. Ken, look at the top of the page and click 'Songs' - they are listed in alphabetical order: AFTER THE GOLDRUSH Well, I dreamed I saw the knights In armor coming, Saying something about a queen. There were peasants singing and Drummers drumming And the archer split the tree. There was a fanfare blowing To the sun That was floating on the breeze. Look at Mother Nature on the run In the nineteen seventies. Look at Mother Nature on the run In the nineteen seventies. I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high. I was thinking about what a Friend had said I was hoping it was a lie. Thinking about what a Friend had said I was hoping it was a lie. Well, I dreamed I saw the silver Space ships flying In the yellow haze of the sun, There were children crying And colors flying All around the chosen ones. All in a dream, all in a dream The loading had begun. They were flying Mother Nature's Silver seed to a new home in the sun. Flying Mother Nature's Silver seed to a new home.
