  3. Wale dropped his awesomely-named sixth studio album, Wow... That's Crazy, on Friday and headed out on the traditional press run. On HOT 97's "Ebro In The Morning," he touched on some of the biggest topics in hip hop since the last time he passed through the station. Wale and the HOT 97 crew contributed to the protracted conversation around the "Top 50" lists that continue to proliferate. What started out as "Top 50 Rappers Of All-Time" lists over a month ago has splintered into regional rankings. The persistent trend has left artists angered by their placements and others irritated by the futility of the whole practice. However, Wale appears unfazed by it all. When asked by Ebro about how his stats have been turning out, Wale responded, "I don't care bout no... I'm on every list that matters... If I'm not on your list, you forgot or you're stupid." The possibility of people having forgotten to include his name was considered because Wale even confessed to accidentally omitting Drake when asked to list the top 5 rappers from his era. He also explained that he's too far into his career and has experienced too much success to be stressed over any list. The interview then transitioned to discussing Mac Miller's passing. After Mac died last September, people started to notice that he was homies with pretty much everyone in the industry. Many had Mac stories to share and they now all have stories about how the news of his death hit them. Wale recalled being the studio when J. Cole called him to tell him Mac died and immediately hanging up the phone to process the information. Wale was supposed to go to Mac's crib two days before and later had strong regrets that the plans fell through. He also mentioned how one of his last text messages to Mac was intended to offer words of encouragement when Swimming dropped, fearing Mac would feel that his project was overshadowed by Astroworld (which dropped on the same day). "I texted him I was like, 'Bro, I hope you're seeing all this love out here,' because he was a guy who was in his head like I be in my head and sometimes you gotta hear that..." 4. The iconic cardigan worn by Kurt Cobain during Nirvana’s legendary MTV Unplugged performance is headed to auction, and it still hasn’t been washed. “It’s very important that we don’t wash it,” Darren Julien of Julien’s Auctions told Rolling Stone. “The stains are still there. There’s even cigarette burns that you can see on the sweater.” The sweater last sold in November 2015 for $137,500 to an anonymous buyer. It is now being sold for a minimum bid of $200,000; however, it’s estimated that the bid could reach as high as $300,000 before it’s sold. For reference, in 2015, the minimum bid was $60,000. “Rock & roll memorabilia has become an investment,” Julien said. “It’s not just a collector’s market — it’s an investor’s market. The person that bought the sweater in 2015 bought it as an investment. Now, because we’ve been getting record prices for Kurt Cobain, people are starting to sell it. We anticipate that it will sell for more than double. I call it the new fine art market. People are investing more and more in pop culture, especially rock & roll. It’s a way to diversify their portfolios.” The auction will be held on October 25th and 26th at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City and online. View the full article
  5. Kanye West has been making waves with his dynamic Sunday Services. We have previously reported on the rapper's iconic gospel experience which took over Coachella this past summer and involved performances by a few, notable artists such as Kid Cudi, Chance The Rapper and more. Well, now we are well into the fall which means it is indeed homecoming season. As such, Kanye West has decided to bless a specific HBCU with the experience of a lifetime by bringing a surprise Sunday Service to campus this Saturday morning. According to Complex, Mr. West made a stop in Washington, DC for Howard University's Homecoming after making a surprise announcement the previous day at 8 PM. Tickets to the show sold out in minutes and led to West performing at the school's quad to an overly exciting crowd. NBC Washington reports that Ye performed a series of ''new verses and raising his hands to the sky for the worship-style show.'' Evidently, Kanye's wife Kim Kardashian West was in attendance as well as their children North and Saint West. The choir was led by Kanye's cousin, singer Tony Williams, who delivered a slew of bops for the choir to chant along. Numerous shots and videos of the moment between Kanye and the early-rising university students found their way all across social media. It was a blessed Saturday, indeed. (Via) View the full article
  6. Jordan Brand gave us a bit of a swerve when they launched the Air Jordan 34 in a unique "Blue Void" colorway, but we always knew it wouldn't be long before the 34s released in a classic Chicago Bulls inspired colorway. The Air Jordan 34 "Bred" launched at retailers this past Thursday, October 10 for the retail price of $180 - and the kicks are still available at all major retailers. 7. The actual mall used as Starcourt Mall in Season 3 of Stranger Things is reportedly for sale. According to Gwinnett Daily Post, rumors that the owners of Gwinnett Place Mall, which was refurbished as Starcourt Mall for the hit Netflix show, have been trying to sell the property have circulated for years. Now, they seem more real than ever. “It is definitely on the market,” said Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District Executive Director Joe Allen, “This is real as far as we can tell.” Allen met with representatives of the firm that will handle the sale earlier this week. The Gwinnett Daily Post also says locals have been vocal about what they’ve seen as a lack of action by Moonbeam officials to revitalize the mall. In 2017, a dead body was discovered in the mall’s vacant food court. “I think this gives us a unique opportunity to find someone who can come in here and move some things forward,” Allen also added. The mall was a prominent set piece in the third season of Stranger Things, which took place during the rise in popularity of malls across America. In other Stranger Things related news, Netflix has officially confirmed the show will be getting a fourth season. View the full article

  9. The Charlie's Angels franchise has a deep history, so if they're gonna do a reboot, they have to come strong. The 2000 remake had the fire of Destiny's Child's "Independent Women Part I" driving it. On November 15, an Elizabeth Banks-directed remake will hit theatres. This time around, pop superstar, Ariana Grande, has been brought on board to co-executive produce the soundtrack along with Savan Kotecha and Scooter Braun. A month ago, the first song off the album was shared: "Don't Call Me Angel" by Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey. The power trio parallels the film's stars: Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska. On Friday, we received another single from the soundtrack that packs just as much heat. Once you hear "How It's Done" - featuring Kash Doll, Kim Petras, ALMA and Stefflon Don - you'll understand why Grande described the soundtrack as "poppy and mildly trappy at times." 11. Calling all Michael Jackson fans! Updates from TheShadeRoom inform that a Michael Jackson Broadway musical is on the way for this summer 2020. The news outlet cited the arrival of the Broadway musical's premiere on August 13th, 2020. Beforehand, there will also be a preview of the upcoming performances on July 6th, 2020. Hence, you can expect to get a little sneak peek into what sounds like the best show in town. The premiere will occur at the Neil Simon Theatre and will consist of an artistic breakdown of Jackson's career milestones and achievements. The show will take a trip down memory lane approach to it al by placing emphasis on Michael Jackson's artistic growth through his 20s and 30s. Dance routines will be curated by famed choreographer Christopher Wheeldon. You can also expect to undergo an experience that will revisit Michael Jackson's catalogue of hits. To top things off, Pulitzer prize recipient Lynn Nottage is currently penning a novel based on the highly anticipated musical. This definitely sheds a more positive light on Michael Jackson's legacy which many believe has been dragged through the mud recently with the release of Leaving Neverland. MJ the musical was stopped in its track numerous times with reports of the aforementioned documentary threatening to end production. In the end, the release will occur and you can happily expect it next year. (Via) View the full article
  12. With Apple’s release of the iOS 13.2 beta earlier this week, users gained access to a plethora of new emojis. The new iOS update includes 59 new unique emojis, but when accounting for other variations like skin tone, gender and more, there are 230 variations of new emojis. This beta is the first time users have been able to use the emojis previewed by Apple earlier this year for World Emoji Day. The surplus of new options includes new animals such as a service dog, an otter, a skunk and more. The update also incorporates a key focus on inclusivity. The full breakdown on the Emojipedia website says, “Now on the iOS emoji keyboard, a choice of three options is available: woman, person, or man. Unlike other implementations, Apple's gender options are not contained within a submenu on the emoji keyboard and are instead shown side by side on the top level. This means a gender-inclusive office worker, singer, vampire or merperson can now be sent, alongside the previous options available for women or men.” There is no official date for the full iOS 13.2 release, and presumably, the emojis implemented in this beta are subject to change based on user reaction before they are fully available to the public. 22. Lil Wayne will forever be one of the greatest to ever do it. Although the past decade has found the rapper making some questionable musical decisions, the rapper was one of the most important artists in an era where music was slowly transitioning from physical copies to digital. The mixtape era and his mixtape run is still one of the most pivotal moments in the past two decades of hip-hop. The mixtape run, however, occurred during a time when it was damn-near impossible to release an album without it leaking online first. In response to songs off of The Carter III leaking online, he came through with his five-track EP, The Leak which included "Gossip." Even before reaching megastardom, Lil Wayne took the Streetrunner production and continued to apply pressure on the rap game with that he's the living, breathing definition of hip-hop. "Wider wrappers, why do rappers/ Lie to fans, lie to rappers/ Lot of rappers lie like actor, cut the mothafuckin' cameras/ Cut the check, n***a, fuck your prop/ And make it out to Mr. Hip Hop," he declares by the end of the song. Quotable Lyrics It rains a lot in my city because my city's crying Because my city's dying Still I emerge from all of that, I am a living pion-eer Near Zion Fear God, not them, steer my Robin coupe, Through the streets of the Boot, and Su-Woop And I leak blood in the booth, I leave a blood bath Sorry, there's a tub in the booth, now where the drugs at? 23. The NBA is making a point to list each player's true height this season after years of allowing teams to exaggerate the numbers by an inch or two, or maybe even more. For instance, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, who was previously listed at 6'7, is now a mere 6'5. That said, Green isn't taking his new height without a fight. On Wednesday, he posted a video on instagram to prove to everyone that he is actually 6'6 without shoes on, which would make him about 6'7 out on the court. "All y'all talking about I'm 6'5, here come the real measurement," Green says. " ... 78 inches -- 6'6." Check out the video evidence below. Whether he's 6'7, 6'6 or 6'5, we already know what Draymond brings to the table on a nightly basis and it's something that doesn't always show up in the stat sheets, but it certainly hasn't gone unnoticed. The Warriors signed Green to a four-year, $100 million contract extension this off-season, which will keep him, Curry, Thompson, and possibly D'Angelo Russell together for the foreseeable future. In a recent interview with USA Today, Green spoke about the turnover this off-season, and the "new energy and new hunger" that he hopes the team will have entering the 2019-20 campaign. “You can look at it as the roster has been turned over and you have to figure it out. Or you look at it from the standpoint that it’s been five years with the same band. Sometimes the band has been on tour for so long and then it gets harder,” Green said. “You can look at it from that standpoint of there’s lots of new energy and new hunger. That is needed, so that’s the way I see it.” View the full article

  25. Money and fame don't matter to Cardi B. She's attached to Offset's spirit, soul and heart. Throughout their marriage, the two have faced countless rumors and controversies. Last winter, everybody was convinced that the high-profile couple would be splitting up after Bardi herself announced that they were headed for a divorce. At the time, her Migos-affiliated husband was caught up in a number of different cheating scandals, including one with Celina Powell, but they ended up reconciling shortly after. If you ask Cardi, she would have settled for Offset at any stage of his life. She's reminding him of that in the comments to his latest throwback. Each member of the Migos enjoys sharing old memories from when they were younger and less famous. We've seen Takeoff and Quavo's family photos and, every once in a while, Set creeps in with a TBT of his own. Last night, the superstar shared a photo of himself as a teenager, repping a Gucci fit and claiming he only had "A LIL PAPER." His wife slid through to tell him that she still would have entertained his offer for a fun night but Tory Lanez took the opportunity to roast the Atlanta native. "N***a look like a n***a that had the swipe wrk booming," joked Tory, suggesting that Offset may have been a scammer extraordinaire. Luckily for him, Offset doesn't need to resort to sketchy means for his paper these days. He can just drop a song and watch the millions fly in. View the full article
