  5. Bootleg music is all over the net, and some of it legal and approved by the musicians that made it. there are live shows, studio outtakes, alternate albums and all sorts of goodies free for the taking often, the files are in a lossless format, that is they use a compression that does not toss out any parts of the file--this is opposed to lossy formats like mp3 or aac that toss some frequencies to save on space (usually high ones, variable depending on bitrate etc.) since lossless files don't toss out anything, you will pay for it in filesize--3x a 320kbps mp3 size, or 1/2 the size of a wav the 2 lossless types i run across the most are .shn and .flac shn or shorten files can be played through winamp with the shnamp plugin (be sure to get the one for your winamp 2.x, 3.x, or 5.x) http://wiki.etree.org/index.php?page=ShnAmp make shn files, and convert back to wav (for burning to cd) with mkwact http://www.etree.org/mkw.html flac or free lossless audio codec--installation of the program also installs the codecs for winamp and for conversion to and from flac http://flac.sourceforge.net/ getting the files here are a few sites to start with that have fast ftp access (legal stuff) http://www.archive.org (archive.org has super fast servers and 10,000 live lossless shows to choose from in many genres. http://www.bluegrassbox.com (bluegrassbox has (you guessed it) bluegrass, old country, and alt. country, servers are in the 25-45 range) http://www.gdlive.com (grateful dead and related shows) (get an ftp client, i like leechftp ) http://stud.fh-heilbronn.de/~jdebis/leechftp/downloads.html once you have a few shows, you can get into shn dc hubs and (yep) get more bootlegs one hub with an excellent database of bootlegs is http://www.bootlegarchive.com it's private, but you can get into it through on site registration (though the people who operate it are assholes, so be warned) there are other shn hubs on the public list, but be sure to only share shn or flac or you will probably be banned! another method is bittorrent http://bt.easytree.org http://www.sharingthegroove.org are good starting points the old fashioned way, updated cd trading by mail is a slower method, but you will access music otherwise unavailable the ultimate connection for traders is http://www.db.etree.org here shn, mail, ftp, and bootleg traders of all kinds compare lists go out and get some bootlegs!
  6. i'll have to retype it now, but that was the aim
  7. they can delete all they want i'll make more just sort of a shock i guess i made a post there about .shn files i wanted to drag over here, and it was gone
  8. you can either love me or hate me, but nobody can effectively deny my existence
  9. *cough cough* speaking of wars, did you know slyck declared war on me (without the knowlege of the president?) http://slyck.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4496 funny story there

    Randy Newman

though he still works today (think pixar soundtracks), i think his best stuff was in the 70's his wit and sly political and social satire (and compositional skills) make for hilarious, well constructed, and thought provoking listening. his amazing piano work and dry, soulful voice complement each other rather nicely a few good albums are: Sail Away Good Old Boys 12 Songs (self-titled Debut) any closet Newman fans out there?
  11. yes except denver pyle isn't really a dillard
  12. i have lots and lots of dillards i love the dillards in fact i sent the dillards by streamload one time to someone, but damned if i can remember who i'm not trying to scare anyone away really
  13. trust me--if i didn't like you, you'd know it by now (i'm not one dance around the issue) i have nothing against zp per se, but i definitely like this site and its goals more than the perceived goals of zp, and would rather not see this site turn out they way they did clearly stated intentions for a site are a great way to start, and save on trouble later
  14. pork bellies are a cut of a hog, but since you are trading in the futures market, you're trading potential future pork bellies (so they will be cut up eventually, just not yet)
  15. aren't pork bellies live pigs? nothing unkosher about live pigs (unless you are having unclean fantasies about them)
  16. is that a record or cd? i have been searching for that particular version a long time
  17. some of us came here to get away from zp, and quite frankly, can live without keeping up with all the latest zp politics
  18. so is that a carte blanche to go out, find those musicians , crack their heads open and eat the gooey stuff inside? in that case, i'll start with toby keith, because i want to start small this is really just a list of overplayed, overrated songs--musicians trying to say something through a song, but then only managing to say "we are trying to rock" or "we aren't really this lame"
  19. Instituting the draft will not solve that problem. The rich and influential will always make sure their soldiers will be somewhere behind lines at HQ and the low and middle class soldiers will still be doing 90% of the dying. There are only very incidences of soldiers from privileged families seeing front line action (such as JFK) and not taking advantage their families position to stay safe behind the lines. and they were officers, never grunts
  20. or you can just melt them or smack them with a hammer, then melt them or give them to a 3-5 year old for 3 minutes
  21. if worst comes to worst, they still have immigrants, prisoners, and high school dropouts in droves ready to go
  22. not gullible, just uneducated maybe if chemistry was a graduation requirement, less people would fall for it (and if he asked someone other than high school freshmen) it is true though (sadly) http://www.snopes.com/toxins/dhmo.htm
  23. sounds like someone i might like i use BCDC .306, since i can turn off hashing
  24. 1970's? My Maria came out in 1973, a 1 hit wonder by B W Stevenson (unless you count his other song, Vahevala, a low charter by Loggins and Messina) therein lies the problem with modern country--too derivative it's all remakes or rehashed hooks from older stuff, performed by some hot chick that can't play any instruments, or a guy in a white hat using a guitar as a prop the entire nashville scene is a thousand songwriters pumping out songs to a few frontmen, with session musicians doing all the real work
  25. cooder loves his dust bowl ballads good stuff
