By Rob Markman If there would be anyone that would acknowledge the six-year anniversary of Pharrell Williams’ 2006 solo debut In My Mind, it’s Odd Future’s Tyler, the Creator. Not that it should be of any surprise, Tyler has been singing Skateboard P’s praises since he’s came into the game. "Oh, dude, I love that album. That's, like, my favorite album," the Odd Future MC told MTV News on Wednesday (July 25) of the Grammy-nominated LP. On July 25, 2006, Pharrell stepped into the spotlight with his Gwen Stefani-assisted single "Can I Have It Like That" and later followed with "Number One," his Michael Jackson-inspired single with Kanye West. In My Mind remarkably mixed rap, R&B and funk with that patented Neptunes sound, and while few artists reference it as an inspiration, the Odd Future standout has long been vocal about the album's influence on his own work. "Well, yeah, I'm a big Neptunes stan, so it's different for me. I love that album. I f---s with Pharrell and Chad; he's Asian," Tyler said with no filter. We're not sure how many people actually took the time to acknowledge Pharrell's anniversary, but it's safe to say Tyler was one of a select few — if not the only one. "I hit him up today like, 'Hey, today's your six-year anniversary!' " Tyler recalled of the conversations he and Skateboard P had earlier Wednesday. "He was like, 'Thanks,' and I was like, 'All right, my n---a.' " P has also shown love to the OFWGKTA crew: He produced "Sweet Life" on Frank Ocean's recently released Channel Orange album, and he and Tyler have been getting some work in as well. By Rob Markman A lot has changed for Lupe Fiasco since 1996, when he made his debut with "Kick, Push." As a product of Chicago's West Side, his beginnings weren't easy, and looking back brought on a flood of memories for him during this week's episode of "RapFix Live." Today Lupe is one of the most powerful voices in rap using his intricately laid lyrics to point out political and social inequalities, and while he stands as one of the game's most beloved stars, the Food & Liquor MC is haunted by his past. On Wednesday's (July 25) episode of "RapFix Live," host Sway Calloway played back a six-year-old clip of the MTV show "My Block," on which Lupe played tour guide by taking our cameras through his native Chicago. But the trip down memory lane proved to be too much for Lu, who started to cry while watching the footage. "It's some of them dudes is dead," Lupe said after the clip rolled, taking several moments to collect himself. It was a tense and emotional moment because in the clip, there was footage of Fiasco's old friends, some of whom are in dire straits today. "Chicago's the murder capital. The dudes in that video are in prison, a couple of fed cases, and then there's ghosts. You see people that, that ain't there," he said sobbing, hiding his tears behind his round-rimmed shades. Lupe's mentor, friend and business partner Charles "Chilly" Patton was sentenced in 2007 to 44 years in prison for drug conspiracy, so it all hits pretty close to home for the MC, who is set to drop his fourth solo LP,Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, Part 1, in September. In the old "My Block" clip, Fiasco admitted that the conditions in his poverty-stricken neighborhood weren't cool to him. "Ain't no song that I can make, there's no 'We are the World' that I'm gonna make that's gonna unify and make all this better," he said back then. "Nothing's changed," he said Wednesday. "Some of those kids ain't gonna make it out of there. You feel so helpless. That was me, talking to me six years ago." Though Lupe has built a catalog filled with uplifting rap tunes, he admits to feeling hopeless. "For me to see myself six years ago, surrounded by people that's not even here, reppin' the 'hood, doin' what they do, that never left. It's a sober thing to me," he explained. "It's sobering because you know your father was right, your mother was right." The lyricist, who at first was at a loss for words, exhausted his tears and delivered a heartfelt message to the inner-city youth: "You gotta get out. Stick to what you know and get out. Because if you stay here, you gonna die, and you not gonna die for anything heroic, you not gonna die for anything meaningful. You gonna die for something that is worthless and nobody is gonna remember your name." The part that is most painful for Lupe Fiasco is that he wasn't able to deliver that message to his friends that may have needed to hear it most. By Sowmya Krishnamurthy After a series of strange events, including kidnapping allegations and a fight at the Jackson family house, Michael Jackson's kids have now been removed from the custody of his mother Katherine Jackson. TMZ reports that TJ Jackson, Tito's son, has been appointed temporary guardianship of Michael's three kids: Paris, Prince and Blanket. The judge reportedly said that Michael's mother Katherine, who was taking care of the children, was not suspended for wrongdoing, but that she was prevented from doing her guardianship by the third parties (who many believe is in reference to Michael's siblings Randy, Janet, Jermaine and Rebbie Jackson). Katherine's lawyer, Sandra Ribera, said that she believes Katherine has been held against her will while another lawyer, Perry Sanders, has stated that once Katherine returns to L.A., she will file a motion to reinstate herself as the guardian of MJ's kids. This is following a bitter estate dispute and inter-family fight over the treatment and whereabouts of matriarch Katherine. RapFix reported about the Jackson family meltdown in which a fight broke out at Katherine's home in Calabasas, California on Monday (July 23). Multiple family members were involved, including MJ's daughter Paris Jackson and his sister Janet Jackson. Police arrived at the scene but no arrests were made. Yesterday, Marlon Jackson told The Insider that despite reports that she is in Arizona, he still didn't know his mother, Katherine's, whereabouts. Marlon, sitting with Tito and Jackie Jackson for the interview, confirmed that Katherine is safe, but he has no idea where she went and why contact was cut-off. "She's doing well. But we have not spoken with her. We have not talked with her and I don't know where my mother is," he said. The drama has not stopped Paris' tweets. By Carter Maness Rapper, actor and reality star Ice-T made headlines yesterday when he responded with a pro-gun viewpoint when asked about the tragic "Dark Knight Rises" shooting last Friday in Aurora, CO. This caught the eyes and ears of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, who praised Ice T for knowing the word "tyranny" and then quickly suffered the hip-hop veteran's wrath. After Ice-T opined yesterday that gun rights were there as a "last form of defense against tyranny" and to "protect yourself from police," Limbaugh devoted time to the situation on his daily radio show. He actually defended Ice from criticism and said it was "double impressive" that he used the word "tyranny" in his response to an interviewer on Channel 4 London. For Ice, the praise (and, likely, subtle mockery) was most unwelcome. "Rush Limbaugh said he was impressed I knew the word 'tyranny,'' he tweeted earlier today. "He's a racist piece of s---." Making it clear he wanted nothing to do with the conservative television and radio establishment, Ice then posted a link to a Newsone.com article that listed the "Top 10 Racist Limbaugh Quotes." Mimi recently called in the TT Torrez Show and debunked the matrimony rumors. Well then! Mimi also revealed that she didn't know about Stevie's affair with Joseline until a month before the show taped (Stevie had Joseline's number as "Big Homie" in his phone which Mimi thought was a male friend). Mimi said that Stevie lives a double life that she had no idea about. Many have chastised Mimi for being in a long-term relationship plagued by affairs, including a high-profile romance with rapper Eve, but Mimi says this is false. She said that she's known Stevie for 15 years but she was not with him when he was with rapper Eve or the other several other women he's impregnated. One image features Tom Hanks and Halle Berry in a sci-fi plot from the film, while another shows Jim Broadbent and Ben Whishaw in one comedic story offshoot. Up until now, we've only seen spoiler-free photos and concept art that don't give us much of a sense of the movie. Adapted from David Mitchell's 2004 novel of the same name, "Cloud Atlas" will weave together six different storylines that take place over many time periods for one overall narrative. Similarly challenging is the way that the Wachowskis had each of their stars play different characters in each of the six storylines. If you couldn't tell, we're excited for this movie. In the picture of Hanks and Berry, Hanks plays a man who meets an emissary from another planet, played by Berry. Hanks' character doesn't look like he's doing too well for himself, but by the way he's holding Berry's we can guess that there is something developing between the two of them. Broadbent and Whishaw's story is about a composer (Broadbent) and his apprentice (Whishaw), and is described by [i]EW[/i] as a "darkly comic yarn." "We thought about these individual characters as aspects of larger characters," Lana Wachowski said in an interview with the magazine. "Their lives are interwoven over one big story that takes place over a thousand years." "Cloud Atlas" was co-directed by Lana and Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) saw The Pirate Bay as one of the major threats and sent a letter to Swedish Minister of Justice Beatrice Ask. The IOC requested “assistance” in getting rid of the Olympic torrents that were posted on the site, but Minister Ask couldn’t do much. The Olympic videos remained online and The Pirate Bay poked the IOC in the eye by renaming their website to [url="http://torrentfreak.com/ioc-wants-olympic-torrents-off-the-pirate-bay/"]The Beijing Bay[/url]. Fast forward to 2012 and the Beijing torrents are still online. Soon these will be joined by torrents of London’s Opening Ceremony, which will also be downloaded by millions of people. Some will download it because they couldn’t watch a live broadcast and others will just want a copy of the historic event for the archives. However, BitTorrent is just a small part of the piracy challenges that NBC and the IOC face. Video streaming sites are perhaps a much bigger threat. In the coming weeks tens of thousands of unauthorized clips will appear on YouTube, and live streaming sites such as Justin.tv will be flooded with pirated streams. Since NBC has paid more than a billion dollars for the Olympic broadcast rights, they will do whatever is in their power to [url="http://online.wsj.com/article_email/SB10001424052702303644004577523280738908096-lMyQjAxMTAyMDEwNDExNDQyWj.html"]stop these unauthorized streams[/url]. Luckily, YouTube and Justin.tv are helping out by automatically detecting pirated content, but there are hundreds of other streaming sources that are much harder to police. But perhaps the U.S. Government is willing to help out? Considering the money that’s involved it would come as no surprise if several of these streaming(-link) sites have their domains seized by the U.S. authorities in the days to come. The lack of free live streams in the U.S. is going to be one of the main reasons why people will pirate the 2012 Olympics. However, NBC also deserves some credit for taking a few steps forward. Just two years ago [url="http://torrentfreak.com/nbc-plots-crackdown-on-olympic-pirates-100208/"]NBC said[/url] that they would only broadcast the highlights because people “are not dying to watch lots of long-form content on a 13-inch screen.” But this has changed. While paid, all 2012 events will now be streamed online. In addition, people without a subscription will be able to buy a temporary pass which will provide access to a four-hour streaming block. Whether this will be good enough to prevent people from accessing unauthorized streams will become clear in the days to come. Back in October 2011, the Maybach Music Group boss suffered a pair of seizures while flying and got a medical recommendation to incorporate more fruit into his diet moving forward. Apparently, Ross is a huge pineapple fan, which started him down the path to this song. When he previewed his album with MTV News earlier this week, Ross explained more. "When I got out of the hospital — you know, I had a seizure last year — when I was leaving, the doctor told me, 'You gotta eat some more fruit, drink you some water, eat fruit and just relax for a little while.' My fruit of choice was pineapples," he said. "For the next three weeks, I woke up every morning and ate diced pineapples, and I put the concept together," he continued. "Drizzy came in, as well as Wale, and it's kinda like, 'She could be my diced pineapple. This special lady, she could be what I wake up to every morning and help me get by every day." Sucker Free - MTV2 "Keep It Politics" is the third single from Chicago's Closed Sessions label and their new compilation, Closed Sessions Vol. 2. The project carries new music as well as mini-documentaries featuring some of Hip Hop's best. The label is a partnership between Chicago-based hip hop blog, RubyHornet and recording studio SoundScape. They partnered with MTV2 Sucker Free to premiere each mini-documentary, giving fans a great look into the recording process. Previously they released singles featuring LEP Bogus Boys and Action Bronson, today they give us "Keep It Politics" featuring Raekwon and production from DJ Babu. The [url="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2011/10/31/paranorman-trailer/"]"Paranorman" trailer[/url] might have sold you on the movie based on its awesome stop motion animation and [url="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2012/07/13/comic-con-paranorman/"]supernatural inspiration[/url], but apparently we haven't seen anything yet. MTV News caught up with stars[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/391958/moviemain.jhtml"] Anna Kendrick[/url], [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/459271/personmain.jhtml"]Christopher Mintz-Plasse[/url] and [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/453560/personmain.jhtml"]Kodi Smit-McPhee[/url] while they were promoting the movie at Comic-Con, and they promised that "ParaNorman" is much more than meets the eye. "It's not just like the zombie invasion and how do we stop the zombie invasion? There's so many layers to the story. When I saw the finished thing, I was watching it and I was thinking, 'I forgot about this part of the story!' It's so layered and there's such a great history behind each little piece of mythology, and it kind of all traces back to this place where you don't really expect it to go and it's really beautiful." The trio agreed that "the third act [of the film] is insane," and veers away from the movie's expected plot. That's an element of "ParaNorman" that likely isn't teased in the trailers, and Smit-McPhee said the final act of the movie its best part. "It gives you chills. Just the music, the sounds and everything together, the effects. It's just crazy," he said. If you've seen any clips from the movie, then you've probably noticed that main characters Norman, Alvin and Courtney don't sound too much like Smit-McPhee, Mintz-Plasse and Kendrick. The trio admitted that they all made very intentional decisions to make their character voices sound different from their normal onces. "I just tried to imagine the voice that I used as a 16-year-old when I would like get in fights with my mom. You know, that part of yourself that you just hate and you want to go and hug your mom? So I tried to channel that awful part of my life," Kendrick said. Mintz-Plasse didn't have to put as much effort in, saying. "When they came to me, they just offered me the role of a bully which was very surprising because I've never had that in the past, but I went in and just sort of created a voice on the spot in front of them to see if they liked it, and they did and it works for the movie and it's used." But it was Smit-McPhee who had it easiest. He didn't have to change his voice too much because he was just a kid when he filmed "ParaNorman." Unfortunately, he underwent some major body transformations during the recording process and now says he'll never be able to talk in Norman's voice again. "I just had a really high-pitched voice so I made it higher. Turns out at the end of it my voice dropped and I can't do that voice anymore. It's a bit sad," he said. "We literally were on the last session and were like, 'Well, this is awkward. Can't even record this anymore.' So yeah, we got it perfect timing." "ParaNorman" hits theaters on August 17.
