By Carter Maness After being found dead at the bottom of his pool Sunday (June 17) morning, questions still remain about the death of Rodney King. While according to King's fiancée, Cynthia Kelley, the death was the result of an accidental drowning, enough open questions remain that police have opened an investigation. "[Kelley] was inside the residence, had been sleeping and Mr. King had been carrying conversations with her from the rear patio poolside," said police captain Randy De Anda of the Rialto Police Department. "She had heard him speaking to her. She got up to go outside to talk with him, at which time she found him at the bottom of the pool." A preliminary investigation into the death of King, who became a reluctant icon as the result of a beating and watershed police brutality case with the LAPD in 1991, showed no signs of foul play, but that didn't stop many from saying something wasn't sitting quite right. TMZ quotes anonymous friends of King's that weren't convinced by Kelley's story and subsequently approached the police with doubts. A neighbor, Sandra Gardea, told the L.A. Times that she heard someone crying in King's backyard between 3-3:30 a.m. on Sunday morning – at least two hours before Kelley placed a 911 call to police. While an autopsy has yet to be performed, police stressed that there was still no evidence of a cover-up or violent crime. After spending the past few weeks in Europe, touring and having a generally good 'ol time, Kanye West will make his way back to the U.S. next month, where he's set to perform two shows at the Revel entertainment center in Atlantic City, New Jersey on July 6 and 7. Beyoncé helped launch the $2.4 billion casino and entertainment venue over Memorial Day weekend with three shows, and now Kanye will bring his star power to Revel in what's being billed as his first solo show since performing at last year's Coachella festival. Despite the "solo" announcement, we're hoping that doesn't mean 'Ye's set will be free of features, as he's gearing up to drop his G.O.O.D. Music compilation album, led by the single "Mercy," featuring Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz. Kanye will perform in Revel's Ovation Hall, designed by Cirque du Soleil's Scèno Plus, on July 6 and 7. Tickets will be on sale through Ticketmaster.com on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m. Last month, Mr. West premiered his new short film, "Cruel Summer," in Cannes, France, revealing that it bears the same name as the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music album. The film stars Kid Cudi as a car thief who falls in love with a blind Arabian princess, and to share it with the world, Kanye had the film projected onto seven video screens inside a tented pyramid on the Mediterranean Sea. With his reputation for doing things big, we can't wait to see what he brings to his two-night stint at Revel. Ever since news broke that Hammer was planning a sequel to the surprise hit "The Woman in Black," the question on every young Potter fan's lips was "But will Daniel Radcliffe be back?" Spoilers ahead. The big looming problem with any potential reprise by Arthur Kipps, Radcliffe's character in the first film, is that he died and apparently moved onto the afterlife with his son and wife. Then considering that the plot of the second film, "Angelof Death," will take place 40 years after the events of the original, a Radcliffe cameo seemed less and less likely. But new details from Hammer's CEO hint that an appearance is not out of the realm of possibilities. Learn more after the jump! At a special screening for "Woman in Black," Hammer CEO Simon Oakes spoke about the sequel, according to Bleeding Cool. Oakes would not offer too many details up on "Angel of Death," but he went as far as to say that Radcliffe "might" appear in the next film. Previously, all we knew about the film was a brief plot description, which is below.
Seized by the government and converted into a military mental hospital during World War II, the sudden arrival of disturbed soldiers to Eel Marsh House has awoken its darkest inhabitant. Eve, a beautiful young nurse, is sent to the house to care for the patients, but soon realizes she must save them from more than their own demons. Despite Eve’s efforts to stop her, one by one they fall victim to the Woman in Black.
Would you like to see Daniel Radcliffe back for a second "Woman in Black" movie? Warner Bros.' planned remake of "Tarzan" is gathering together some impressive directing talent. Maybe the studio is trying to give the classic story the young adult treatment, because two of the directors vying to helm the flick have established themselves as forces to be reckoned with when it comes to making movies for tweens, teens and twentysomethings. Deadline is reporting that David Yates, Gary Ross and Susanna White are all interested in directing the project. The site doesn't give us any more than that, but we can guess some general information on the project based on the talents involved. Yates is best known for directing the last four "Harry Potter" movies. That means he's got a pretty good relationship set up with Warner Bros, since those movies have gone on to make bucketloads of money. It also means he knows a thing or two about adapting from a novel, especially one that appeals to kids and has elements of adventure in it. Also well versed in adapting action-packed novels is Ross, who helmed Lionsgate's adaptation of "The Hunger Games." He ultimately passed on its sequel, "Catching Fire," allegedly so he could go on to direct a project close to his heart. It would be a bit surprising for him to move on to this movie now unless it had something that strongly appealed to him. Ross has also directed (and wrote) "Pleasantville" and "Seabiscuit," both of which were strong character films. And then there's White, arguably the least well known of the trio. She directed episodes from the HBO miniseries "Generation Kill," as well as the kid's flick "Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang," showing that she can also bridge the gap between action and family-friendly. But she's got the upcoming BBC/HBO series "Parade's End" in her near future, so we aren't quite sure that she's got the space in her schedule to tackle "Tarzan." Which director would you be most interested in seeing direct this "Tarzan" film? By Sowmya Krishnamurthy "Business is always personal" sums up tonight's first episode of "Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta" (airing at 8pm ET on VH1). Tonight we meet the new faces of the Down South season and see the infidelities, hardships, career dreams and the inevitable haters that stand in the way. The highly-anticipated Atlanta premiere episode kicks off with producer Stevie J presenting a new home to his woman Mimi too far from Atlanta for her comfort. She wonders if his studio sessions with his up and coming artist Joseline (a former exotic dancer) involves more than just business? Late night studio sessions often turn into love in this world. In other relationship drama, rapper Lil Scrappy tells his girl Erica that he isn't sure about their relationship (which may turn into another Fabolous/Emily or Jim Jones/Chrissy debacle). The remaining cast mates--K.Michelle Karlie, Mimi and Ariane--celebrate Michelle's birthday, but the party becomes a drama zone when Joseline and Stevie shows up together looking like a cozy couple. Will drinks will be thrown? Who will keep her man and who will earn her way to platinum success? Tune in tonight for that and plenty of Southern-style drama on VH1. By Carter Maness Iggy Azalea, a buzzed-about 22-year-old rapper who has transplanted from Australia, is poised to set 2012 ablaze with the upcoming reissue of her breakthrough mixtape, Ignorant Art, and a forthcoming debut album on T.I.'s Grand Hustle imprint, entitled The New Classic. After attracting industry and Internet attention with the poppy, rapidfire raunch of early singles like "P---y" and "My World," Azalea was signed by storied record executive and Interscope Chairman Jimmy Iovine in January 2012. Two months later, she restructured her deal and joined-up with ATL legend T.I. and his Grand Hustle imprint for guidance and executive producing on her debut album. She's taking her time crafting a debut that she hopes will be worthy of such a lofty title. "It's finding the production and finding something cohesive that's right for the direction of the album," she told MTV News back in March. "You just never know when you're gonna have that magic." Expectations are high. Through fan voting, Azalea was the first female ever to be named to XXL's vaunted Freshmen Class list, and it furthered some beef with fellow up-and-comer Azealia Banks. "[Banks] wasn't the only one who felt funny about it," she said. "It was a trending topic people felt so funny about it." For now, though, it's all about getting Ignorant Art out to a new audience and completing The New Classic with T.I., which is tentatively scheduled to drop later this summer. By Rob Markman with reporting by FLX R-E-S-P-E-C-T, to Lil Wayne that seven-letter word means everything. MTV News caught up with Tunechi and asked why he decided to pull Nicki Minaj from Hot 97’s Summer Jam line-up just hours before the show. He didn’t appear angry, nor did he insult the popular New York rap radio station, he simply demanded respect. "That's a female; first and foremost Nicki Minaj is a female. I don't know what anyone else believes, but I believe females deserve the ultimate respect at all times no matter, when or where or how," the multiplatinum rapper told MTV News on Saturday while backstage at Hot 107.9's Birthday Bash in Atlanta. Minaj was slotted to close out the yearly rap extravaganza on June 3 and was planning to bring out Nas, Lauryn Hill, Foxy Brown, Cam'ron and Lil Wayne during her set. That plan went south after outspoken Hot 97 personality Peter Rosenberg downed Nicki's pop single "Starships" in front of concertgoers, prompting Wayne to pull the plug on all YMCMB Summer Jam performances, including Nicki's and DJ Khaled's. "As soon as she called me and told me she felt disrespected, I just declined everything," Weezy told us. "I pulled her from the show because ... no person that works with me will be disrespected in my presence as long as I'm on this planet." Wayne feels Nicki should have gotten the royal treatment from the radio station and its employees. "I expect the red carpet, in her manner; the pink carpet should be laid out for her," he said. "It's just an executive move, no salt, no bad feelings, no hard feelings." Many, including Hot 97 veteran DJ Funkmaster Flex, criticized Minaj for not taking the stage, but Lauryn Hill issued a statement supporting Nicki's decision. "I don't have details on exactly what transpired between the station and the artists, but I do support artists standing by their beliefs and walking with integrity," Weezy agrees. "I feel like a woman should be respected at all times, therefore I made the right decision," he said. This post will discuss plot points from the previous season of "Breaking Bad." The explosive demise of former drug king Gustavo Fring only seems like it happened a few short weeks ago, but that flurry of water cooler conversations was last October. We are now less than a month away from the beginning of the end for Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. That being the case, promotional materials for part one of the final season have begun to trickle out, and today, three sets of images popped on the web. The photos comes from Vulture, EW.com, and TVGuide, and frankly don't help us with our painful need for more Heisenberg. The first photo from Vulture is the more playful of the promo shots and features Walt and Jesse kicking back with a beer and some snacks in their full chemical hazard suits. One of the biggest questions about next season is how the relationship will develop in light of recent events, specifically the poisoning of Brock. In the images TVGuide released today, Walt and Jesse stand in an abandoned warehouse and peer through panes of broken blue glass. You may remember that Jesse and Walt make blue meth. It's kind of the premise of the show. The connection should be easy to make. Finally, EW.com posted a dark image of Walt seated on his bed, facing away from a very worried Skylar. It seems that even after Walt "won" at the end of last season, there is still a rocky road ahead for the estranged couple. The closer we get to the July 6 release date of "Savages," the more intrigued we get by its line-up of leading actors. Oliver Stone's latest stars Aaron Johnson, Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Salma Hayek, Benicio Del Toro and John Travolta, and they all look like they're giving performances at the top of their game. A new series of clips from the film have been released (via Collider), and they showcase some of the great onscreen chemistry that we're going to be privy to in the upcoming movie. But what the scenes did more than anything else was solidify our excitement for Hayek's villainous turn as the Mexican Baja Cartel leader Elena. One clip featuring her and Lively's Ophelia is particularly tense, and we have a feeling Hayek is going to be getting a lot of attention for her role in this film. The scene takes place at a dinner Elena and Ophelia are having, with Elena reminding Ophelia that she will happily kill her two boyfriends—Kitsch's Chon and Johnson's Ben—at the first opportunity. Ophelia wishes her good luck doing that, since she claims she is the only person who can get the drug dealers in the same place at the same time. "There's something wrong with your love story, baby," Elena chides. "They may love you, but they will never love you as much as they love each other, otherwise they wouldn't share you, would they?" Oh, snap. Ophelia doesn't look too pleased by that revelation. "Savages" looks to be far different than any other movie coming out this summer, and we're thrilled to see these actors give some (hopefully) truly great performances. Shawn Levy is a busy man of many talents. The "Real Steel" director is currently gearing up to direct "The Internship," a comedy that will reunite "Wedding Crashers" stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn for the first time since the 2005 flick hit theaters. But now we're also hearing that he's in talks to produce an upcoming post-apocalyptic film from up-and-comer Brian Duffield. The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which is describing "Monster Problems" as "a post-apocalyptic road movie in the vein of 'Mad Max' and 'Zombieland' with a John Hughes-esque love story at its center." It's an intriguing premise, and one we'd like to know more about. Unfortunately, we probably won't know much more until the project lands a director. Duffield is a name that's been heard around Hollywood a lot recently. Lynne Ramsey (and Natalie Portman) and Eli Craig have picked up Duffield's two other scripts—"Jane Got a Gun" and "Your Bridesmaid's a Bitch," respectively. Post-apocalypse meets John Hughes is a premise we can totally get behind, though. We've seen plenty of strange romantic mash-ups come out in recent years, and with several zombie love stories in the pipeline, nothing can really surprise us anymore. We'd be interested to see if Levy ends up jumping on board "Monster Problems," since it would be a new genre for him to dabble in. In addition to "Real Steel," Levy has directed "Date Night" and "Night at the Museum," and most recently produced "The Watch." Are you intrigued by this new project? Chris Brown and Meek Mill have both sent brief tweets about the club brawl that took place with Drake's entourage last week, in an effort to emphasize that they weren't cool with what happened, but now the MMG rapper has spoken up in an interview, explaining what went down that night. According to Meek, neither he or Drake, or Chris Brown ever tossed a bottle. In an interview with XXL, Meek was asked if he threw a bottle during the melee, which left Chris Brown, his bodyguard and several club patrons wounded. "F--- no," the Philly rapper responded, adding that Drake and Brown didn't either. "Chris and Drake, them two was there, but it's other people that be around that take sh-- to the next level," he said. "Things just happen in the club. I seen girls in there throwing bottles, all types of sh--. All types of people. I never seen Chris Brown or Drake throw a bottle, and I was there." In the hours following the brawl, Meek's brief tweets didn't add any clarity to the situation. He began with the coy line, "It wasn't me.... (shaggy voice) lol," and later responded to messages from Roscoe Dash, who blasted him along with Drake and Brown for fighting. Meek snapped back, "You gotta chill b4 you b tweeting my name in some sh-- i wasn't even really in! Stay in ya lane!" Later in the day, Brown — who had already deleted his initial tweets and the photo of his injury, which he posted right after the brawl — sent a follow up message, writing, "Me and @MeekMill ain't on that bullsh--. Real respect Real...." Although the statement seemed odd, right after reports that Meek had played a role in instigating the fight, Meek confirmed to XXL that things were all good between him and Brown. "What [Brown] tweeted was just that me and Meek Mill ain't got no problem," he said. "I talked to him immediately after that, on the phone afterwards, like immediately. There's nothing there, this-that-and-the-third. Chris Brown be in clubs. He be around situations like this. Things get out of hand. That don't mean it's out of hand with me and him or whoever, not even him and Drake." Drake made his first public appearance since the brawl at his Club Paradise Tour stop in New York on Saturday night, bringing Meek along with him, but he made no real statement on what went down last week. Instead, he told fans that he'd had a rough couple of days but was in a much better mood by the time he hit the stage. Details from that night are still being revealed. The nightclub where the incident took place was shuttered this weekend, and clubgoers present at the time are reporting injuries from the brawl. As you might imagine, this post is very NSFW. Now entering the post-"Transformers" portion of his career, Shia LaBeouf is trying to establish himself as a serious actor. We'll see part of this new LeBeouf when John Hillcoat's "Lawless" opens in August, but the latest and more naked part of that campaign debuted online today. LaBeouf stars in the latest music video from the Icelandic post-rock group, Sigur Rós, for their song, "Fjögur Píanó," and he is very, very naked. But incidentally, the nudity is not what has us scratching our heads. It's everything else in the video. Check out the full video after the jump. We watched all eight minutes and 32 seconds of this music video from start to finish, and from what we can tell, this kind of looks like a parody of high art. There are a few factor that have led us to this conclusion, something we hope is true. First of all, the nudity. Let's talk about the nudity. LaBeouf is fully nude in one shot early on in the video. He stands completely naked facing his co-star, who spends most of the video equally undressed. LeBeouf ponies up and goes full-frontal, but not for nearly as long as his female co-star. Being a serious actor is about nudity, not necessarily extended nudity. After LaBeouf and his co-star wake up, they get naked and after are attacked by hipsters bearing sparkly lollipops. We rest our case. What did you think of the video? Later this year, the Center for Copyright Information (CCI) will start to track down ‘pirates’ as part of an agreement all major U.S. Internet providers struck with the MPAA and RIAA. The parties agreed on a system through which copyright infringers are warned that their behavior is unacceptable. After six warnings ISPs may then take a variety of repressive measures, which include slowing down offenders’ connections and temporary disconnections. While all parties are keen to stress that the system is set up to educate, and that the privacy of Internet subscribers is guarded, there is some worrying language in the agreement that has been overlooked thus far. As part of the deal, ISPs have agreed to share progress reports. These reports include a variety of statistics, including the number of warnings that are sent out, and how many frequent offenders there are. Nothing out of the ordinary thus far, but that changes when we read the following sentence: “The Content Owner Representatives [MPAA / RIAA] or any other member of the Participating Content Owners Group may use such reports or data as the basis for seeking a Subscriber’s identity through a subpoena or order or other lawful process. For the avoidance of doubt, the Parties agree that the Content Owner Representatives may share such reports with the other members of the Participating Content Owners Group..” In other words, the MPAA, RIAA and all of its members may use these progress reports to take their own actions against persistent BitTorrent pirates. This sheds an entirely different light on the educational “six-strikes” scheme. Repeat infringers are not just at risk of having their connections throttled, they can also find themselves dragged to court by the MPAA or RIAA. So much for safeguarding the privacy of subscribers. The potential legal action is cited again later in the agreement when it discusses what happens after users receive their sixth warning. “The Participating ISP will, however, continue to track and report the number of ISP Notices the Participating ISP receives for that Subscriber’s account, so that information is available to a Content Owner Representative if it elects to initiate a copyright infringement action against that Subscriber.” This “action” the document refers to is legal action. Interestingly, if we look at an early draft of the agreement that was made public through a FOIA request, the term legal action is used. Presumably, this was changed to prevent any alarm bells from going off. Legal action While the above is no certainty that the MPAA and RIAA will sue BitTorrent users, they wouldn’t have put the language above in the agreement if it’s not being considered. This is worrying, much more so than the “six strikes” warning system itself. Time will tell why the RIAA and MPAA put in this option to sue, and how they are going to capitalize on it. By Carter Maness Ever-controversial, Chris Brown seems unable to avoid beefing with other artists for too long. Last week he and his crew were involved in a dust-up with Drake's entourage at the now-shuttered W.I.P. nightclub in Manhattan, and although Brown has been cooperating with the police in an effort to resolve the situation, you can't help but wonder if it would've escalated to the level that it did, had Brown not tweeted a photo of his injury along with a brief rant, only to delete it later. Most of Chris Brown's recent beefs have originated on Twitter, with the singer either responding to jabs, or sending out underhanded insults of his own. Take a look back at a few incidents after the jump. Opponent: Raz B Date: December 2010 Shots Fired: This one started when Raz tweeted his wonder at how someone like Brown could disrespect a woman like Rihanna. Brown then referred to Raz as Peter Pan and made offensive homosexual remarks towards him. Money Quote: "I'm not homophobic! He's just disrespectful…I was minding my damn business and Peter Pan decides to pop off!!!" Opponent: Frank Ocean/Odd Future Date: June 2011 Shots Fired: Brown tweeted his faux-love of Frank Ocean, saying he "reminds me of a young James Fauntleroy or Kevin Cossum." Ocean then referred to Brown's abusive history by comparing him to notorious woman-hitter Ike Turner. This sent Brown off the rails. Money Quote: “[It] was a compliment you b---h ass n---a. Everybody claim to be the devil till they meet him,†tweeted Brown. “[F]--k odd future! Make sure y'all smalltime n----s stick yo chess out when u speak to me." Opponent: Tyler, The Creator Date: Summer 2011 Shots Fired: Tyler, The Creator knows how to start trouble, but Brown actually started this one by calling Odd Future rapper Hodgy Beats pathetic. This started an epic back-and-forth with Tyler mocking Brown's haircut and asking him if likes soup. Brown called Odd Future "demonic." Money Quote: "It's funny n---as want me to @ them so they can beef and get followers! The s--- weak! Lol." Opponent: An Assortment Of TV Personalities Date: November 2011 Shots Fired: Saying that "taking relationship advice from single people is like taking not-beating-the-s----out-of-women advice from Chris Brown," producer Jenny Johnson started a firestorm. "Modern Family" producer Danny Zuker showed his approval and then Brown went on the attack, ripping on his age. After the retort, Fox News correspondent Andy Levy said Brown should get jail time for beating women. Money Quote: "Danny Zucker, great to see you spending the holidays thinking of me! Cherish these moments cuz at ur age, there isn't much time left! If u graduated high school in the 70s you should really get another hobby! (not twitter)." Opponent: Miranda Lambert Date: February 2012 Shots Fired: During the Grammys, Miranda Lambert voiced her disapproval at Brown making two appearances. "He beat on a girl," she tweeted. "Not cool that we act like that didn't happen." Brown came back by using his award as proof of his success and the industry's approval. Money Quote: "Hate all you want because I got a grammy now! That's the ultimate f--- off… Perform your heart out! Go buy @miranda_lambert! So motivational and "PERFECT."" Opponent: CM PUNK Date: February 2012 Shots Fired: After the WWE star said that Brown should "fight somebody that can defend themselves" and referred to him as a "turd," Brown offered an autographed picture and accused the wrestler of being on steroids. Money Quote: "He's such a leader! Not to mention the roids he's on has made it utterly impossible for him to pleasure women." Opponent: Meek Mill Date: May 2012 Shots Fired: Meek, implying that he had hooked up with Rihanna, tweeted the message, "U took me off ya song cause she let me watch da throne! #dreamsandnightmares," which prompted Brown to call Rihanna a "dream chaser" (a play on the MMG rapper's mixtape title). Meek snapped back, "Dese chicks belong 2 da game… not u! Never get confused and think that's all u!" Poor, Rihanna. Money Quote: "There are a lot of dreamers so she'll be running forever." Opponent: Brian McKnight Date: June 2012 Shots Fired: McKnight asked for suggestions whether he should rent a lambo or "beat the s--- outta my girl" – an obvious shot at Brown. Brown, noticing a pattern, fired back that anyone bringing up his abusive history was just looking to gain fame off his name. Money Quote: "I can’t keep helping these old n---as. Its miracle the way I’m bringing the dead alive… I would have gladly wrote you something that would make u look less irrelevant." Opponent: Drake Date: May-June 2012 Money Quote: Brown had tense words with both Drake and Meek Mill over Rihanna, but a boiling point came June 13 when Brown and Drake's entourages brawled-out at a Manhattan club. Birdman is a Miami Heat fan, and during the NBA Finals the Cash Money CEO is rooting extra hard for his team since Lil Wayne has had some trouble getting proper seats at recent OKC Thunder games. "It's Miami Heat all day in every kinda way," Baby told MTV News on Friday. We caught up with Bird and Cash Money's newest signee, DJ Greg Street, in Atlanta while Street was broadcasting live from V-103. In anticipation of Sunday night's Game 3, Street urged OKC star Kevin Durant to put on a show, but Birdman was taking things just a bit more personally. "OKC gotta pay for their disrespect that they did with my son — that never would be honored," he said with a smirk. Back in May, Birdman's "son" (and #1 selling artist on Cash Money) Lil Wayne wanted to take in an NBA Western Conference Finals game in Oklahoma City, but team officials refused to give Weezy any special treatment; they wouldn't provide any escorts or special parking, forcing the rap megastar to walk in with the rest of the fans. Wayne then became worried about his safety and the safety of the fans. "Why would you actually want to cause pandemonium? That's gonna make it harder for your security," Young Money president Mack Maine told RapFix in an interview after the incident. Thunder spokesman Dan Mahoney would later confirm that Wayne's people reached out to the team for a front-row ticket, but because it was a last-minute request they weren't able to accommodate the multiplatinum MC. Tunechi eventually did catch a Thunder game live in Oklahoma City when he attended Game 1 of the NBA Finals on June 12, but still he was left unhappy. "Again I was treated like sh-- by the Thunder arena staff ... dam I hope da Heat beat da dog sh-- out em," he tweeted. The Thunder took Game 1, but the Heat won the next two games, including Sunday's 91-85 victory in Miami. LeBron James' Heat currently lead the best-of-seven game series 2-1. Baby, who regularly attends Heat games, makes it clear that his issue isn't with the people of Oklahoma City or the team's individual players. "The arena, just the arena because I love the people of OKC — it's the arena and how they been disrespectful," he said. "F--- them, I have no respect for them and the way they just disrespected another black man who tryin' to come to their arena that happens to be my son. It's Miami Heat all day every day anyway, but that's just how I feel personally."
