Elton John plans to marry longtime companion

eltonjohngay.jpgBritish pop legend Elton John plans to marry his longtime boyfriend David Furnish, saying he has "never been so happy".

"We haven't set a date and it surely won't be a big public ceremony but I would like to place my life in his hands with a wedding vow," the 57-year-old told German weekly celebrity magazine Gala.

"I have never been so happy."

John, who did not reveal in which country he planned to tie the knot, said he had lived for years "like a wild animal" with a lifestyle marked by drugs, alcohol, depression and suicide attempts.

"Today I am happy that person no longer exists."

He called the 40-year-old Canadian-born Furnish "the most important person in my life".

Hope he's not planning a USA wedding. After 11 states approved anti-gay marriage laws, and after the religious right took absolute control of America last night, it's not out of the question that gay marriage will be punished by execution. One newly elected US Senator proposed that a while back, I believe.

I wasn't exactly accurate in my statement, but what I recalled was implied:

If Oklahoma gay people deny Carson their votes, they don't win. Coburn wins, and then gay people lose. Coburn has said that the "gay agenda," as he calls it, "is the greatest threat to our freedom that we face today." He is against AIDS prevention for anyone who has sex outside of opposite-sex marriage, he is against all laws and rules that prohibit discriminating against gay people simply because they are gay, and if he favors the death penalty for abortion providers, you can just imagine what kind of anti-gay laws he'd pass if he thought he could.

maybe they should burn them in front of a crowd. They could cheer and throw things at them.

Then they could go back home and feel better now that the "the greatest threat to our freedom that they face today" is out of the way.

-And they accused the Taliban

In an unsurprising twist, my own province of Saskatchewan is expected to be the 7th province to legalize gay marriage by Friday.

good for saskatchewan; i'm glad you live in a progressively thinking place, Shawn. YAY CANADA! (which would be where we'd be thinking of moving if we weren't already here, and thank fuck for that).

i wish Elton John and his partner the best of luck (although i can't stand his music).

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
