2004 Baseball Playoffs/World Series

Great game tonight, with the only total loser being Curt Schilling, who had shot his mouth off yesterday about "shutting up 50,000 Yankee fans". He got his butt ripped for 6 runs and looked bad doing it. His ankle better get better or the Red Sox lose their best starter. The Red Sox made their own statement by making an 8-0 game into an 8-7 game in a big hurry. In defeat they let the Yankees know they won't ever give up. The Yankees are going to have pitching problems all through this series, but their play tonight told the Red Sox that even though the Sox have a slightly deeper team, the Yankees are due more respect than the cocky Red Sox have been giving them.

This is going to be one of the best playoff series of games ever.

While Martínez slogged through six innings at Yankee Stadium, Lieber subdued the mighty offense of the Boston Red Sox, leading the Yankees to a 3-1 victory in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series.

The Yankees lead the best-of-seven-game series, two games to none, after shelling Curt Schilling on Tuesday and handling Martínez last night.

"These two games were huge, especially tonight," Torre, the Yankees' manager, said. "Curt didn't have his best stuff yesterday, but Pedro was Pedro. To beat him when he had stuff like this, it really gives us a lot of confidence."

Look for the crazed Boston fans to energize the team at home. I suspect the yankees wouldn't cry if they only won one of three there....but they have to take at least one...wheras the Red Sox have to sweep to get any kind of confidence level going. Lieber's great performance last night was unexpected against that offense, and it had to really energize the Yankees and dampen the Red Sox steamroller. Fireworks guaranteed in Boston.

NY Yankeesk up 17-8 in the third game. Rodriguez, Sheffield and Matsui with homers. Doubles across the board. The Yanks are just too powerful this year, and when they are on, there is nothing that can beat them

As crazy as it may sound in the midst of this Yankee dominance, there still has to be concern about their starting pitching. Kevin Brown and Vasquez both were shelled, but when you score 19 runs that gets lost in the shuffle. But that type offense won't always be there, so the Yankees still will be worried about pitching until the end of this series and certainly on into the World Series.

Good boo boston..

this will be a great world series if the cardinals can win

Cardinals Vs. Yankees

2 teams with the most world series titles. Should be intresting.

David Ortiz rallied and homered in the 12th to beat the Yankees in the four game 6-4... I was beginning to wonder whether Boston had any life in them at all

**Shakes head**

You must be enjoying your series then...what with that football score game three

With the Yankee's lineup, I think we are witnessing the murderer's row of all time. They dont have a hitter who isnt dangerous...

Yep, there is no amount of money that could buy a better team.

We could still use a power second baseman and it looks like we might get Soriano back during the season break. And we could use a few new starting pitchers too--i think we have some change left to accomplish both for next year

This game is in extra inings, but I feel the momentum is all with the Red Sox now...no more off days and Mariano Rivera and Tom Gordon have pitched until their arms are falling off. I have a sense that there could be a major shocker back in New York, if it gets there. If so, I think Torre need to rest his only two reliable relievers for a seventh game. I can forsee the greatest comeback ever by a baseball team as a possibility here.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
