Michael Jackson is a scheming serial paedophile with a drinking problem who should finally be held responsible for sexually abusing young boys, a prosecutor said yesterday, in a searing attack on the pop star during closing arguments in his molestation trial.

But Jackson's chief attorney called the charges a mean-spirited bid to "dehumanize" one of the world's best-loved entertainers and labelled the accusers "con artists, actors and liars."

Michael Jackson's jurors began their third day of deliberations over whether the superstar is guilty of child molestation and a plot to kidnap his accuser.

The eight men and four women of the jury filed out of two white mini-buses that ferried them to the courthouse to resume discussions over their verdict on the fate of the "King of Pop."

The "Jackson 12" on Monday huddled for six hours on Monday, their first full day of deliberations since they went out on Friday, in a windowless room in the California town of Santa Maria to which neither the judge nor the rival lawyers have access.

Jackson Jurors Face Daunting Instructions

Jurors deciding the child molestation case against Michael Jackson may have to reach as many as 20 separate decisions because of the complicated instructions given to them by the judge. It could take them a long time to sort it all out.

A detailed study of the 98 pages of legal instructions shows the panel is facing a task that could be confounding even to people familiar with the law. One of the toughest decisions could be whether Jackson participated in a conspiracy.

Felony Charges Filed Against Mother of Jackson's Accuser

Los Angeles County prosecutors today filed five felony charges of welfare fraud and perjury against the mother of Michael Jackson's teenage accuser, the woman whose credibility was at the center of the pop star's acquittal on child molestation charges.

Prosecutors allege that Janet Arvizo received more than $18,000 in welfare benefits illegally by failing to disclose that she and her family had received thousands of dollars in the settlement of a civil lawsuit.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
