Rockers Linkin Park have launched their own charity to raise funds for survivors of

the Asian tsunami.

The "In The End" band has set up Music For Relief in conjunction with the American

Red Cross, kick starting funds with their own donation of $100,000.

Guitarist Brad Nelson says, "As a band, we were in a position to help, but this needs to be a lot broader effort - both by our fans and by other musicians. If one of our fans can donate $10, then that's going to help, and the faster we can do it, the better."

"Here in the States, we might not think that we're directly affected by all this, but we can help. And the more we can do, and the quicker we can do it, the more lives we can save. Obviously, there's been a horrendous, unparalleled loss of life. But a lot more people are going to die from being homeless and the problems with the water and diseases. The whole thing is really a race against time."

"We don't have a specific monetary goal right now."

"But we hope that anyone and everyone who can help will. We hope people will contribute what they can, because we can really save lives."

Over 80,000 people have been killed by the tsunami which struck Indian Ocean locations in Asia.

Come on Bill Gates, how about 100,000,000 USD?

What about all these other Fortune 500 members??

Just a little collective pocket change from them would dwarf the money received so far.

It seems the people with the biggest hearts are not the ones with the most money.

According to the Sun Online, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne encouraged fellow Britons to donate money the to the Asia tsunami appeal and chipped in £25,000 (approx. $47,600) themselves.

In just eight frantic hours Brits dipped into their pockets to give £13 million — nearly £25,000 a minute.

Donations had reached £60 million (approx. $114 million) by Saturday night.

The money raised by the public now exceeds the amount donated by the Government — £50 million — to the relief fund.

NEW YORK - Actress Sandra Bullock has donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to help relief efforts in countries affected by the deadly earthquake and tsunamis in southern Asia and eastern Africa.

Bullock, whose screen credits include "Miss Congeniality," "While You Were Sleeping" and "Speed," contacted the American Red Cross last week, the organization said Monday. She also donated $1 million after the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

"At this critical time, I am grateful to Sandra Bullock for once again demonstrating her leadership, compassion and belief in our global humanitarian mission," said American Red Cross President and Chief Executive Officer Marsha Evans in a statement. "Sandra continues to enable our lifesaving work and is a model for personal generosity."

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
