  1. John Mayall's 'Turning Point" was a favorite album of mine back in the day. Anyone else remember it?
  2. Did you sample each cut? I think for a young band (they're all in their early 20s), its a pretty good effort for a start. But thats just my opinion...
  3. My favorite Stephen King book was co-written by Peter Straub: The Talisman.
  4. Im listening to an instrumental tune off of the Gabriel Young demo--reminds me of the middle of a Dead Jam with overtones of Lanterna--a dueling guitar 'round' that grows and extends. Nice stuff...
  5. I kinda picture her as "hell on wheels" in the best sense, of course.. I suggested earlier in the thread that she would make a great duo with ASU in a caper movie. But now that Ive seen your mugh Stuzb, I think you guys might be better utilized as bank robbers in a Tarrantino movie :)
  6. If the price was right, I would consider it...
  7. Little surcharges like this drive me crazy. The Universities have a similar scheme. If you donate say a million bucks, the university takes an admistrative fee; so instead of giving a million for shcolarships to needy student,s it actually works out to like 750gs. Stuzb, you are right to point out that this disgusting, and is depriving those of really in need.
  8. With the summer movie season approaching, I thought we should update this thread. Alot of BK people are talking about KillBill, Volume II. What's on your list? Let us know what to see and what no to see..
  9. I picked up an old copy of Tom Wolf's Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test this morning at a garage sale for a buck. The book is a revisitation of Ken Kesey's psychadelic experiments in the 60s and the true cross-country odyssey of his henchman, The Merry Pranksters. When it first came out, Tom Wolfe was praised for starting a new type of personal journalism. Ken Kesey was already famous, having written "One Flew Over A Cuchoo's Nest." Since others expounded upon what they read upon below, I have expanded my list to include periodicals. I read the NYTimes, scan the Drudge Report and Salon.com and Fark.com, and then I surf the web for stuff that might work here or at ZP. I also read the New Yorker religously, cover to cover, and sometimes Vanity Fair. (Plus there are some screenplays, Robert Greene's 48 Laws of Power, Jim Marrs Rule by Secrecy, and some metaphysical stuff on my bedstand) So, Beatkingers what are your reading these days?
  10. I remember Hungry...yes that was pretty good. The website said they had 25 straight hits. But not sure they are all memorable enough to be one of the Best Pop Songs of all time.
  11. Back on topic... Paul Revere and the Raiders had one hit good enough to make this thread - the song was called "Kicks" (FYI--Pau Revere and the Raiders were the host band for Dick Clark's What's Happening ABC after school show in the 60s. They were from the beach community...here's their website: http://www.paulrevereraiders.com/)
  12. Heard a demo for a new band that's beginning to break on XM and college radio. They sound like a cross between Nirvana and the Kinks and I think they may go places. You can give their tunes a listen here:
  13. Im pleased to say I have never bought anything from Walmart. They are on my list with ClearChannel... no business.
  14. Tommy had one nice cut with Pinball Wizard, and I agree that Quadrophenia was a better album, but the nay-sayers are missing some of the best music by ignoring Who's Next and Live at Leeds, one of the greatest live rock albums ever recorded.
  15. I was pleased that the people of South Central resoundedly gave Walmart the boot and handed their asses back to them :)
  16. 35 years later, the album doesnt hold up as much as Rubber Soul, Revolver, the White Album or Abbey Road. But when it was released, the production values were so far byond what anyone had ever attempted, it was truly revolutionary. It may not be able to see it now, but if you were around at the time you would understand...
  17. Welcome aboard--llooking torward to sharing music info with ya :strumma:
  18. More 60s Stuff Louie, Louie - The Kingsman Youve Lost That Lovin' Feeling - Be My Baby Up on the Roof On the Boardwalk

  20. Pitchforkmedia is raving about former DJ Jason Forrest's electronica compilation which samples everyone from Elton John to the CCR to the Talking Heads and The Who: "Create(s) an explosive post-mashup dragnet that sweeps metal, drill-n-bass, gabba, disco, and familiar FM rock staples into a single pie, and then slices it with precision. Brilliantly does for disco and arena rock guitars what Prefuse 73 did for hip-hop and soul. Electro has its first great party record of 2004." You can read the full review here: :read this: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-revie...sco-crash.shtml Buy this album

  22. Quentin Tarrintino returns with another round of pyrotechnics, and Uma Thurmand and David Carradine shine in Kill Bill, Volume II. You can read Charles Taylor's full Salon review here: :read this: http://www.salon.com/ent/movies/review/200...ll_2/index.html
  23. Audi and David Bowie have teamed up for a Mashing contest. David Bowie will judge the best splicing compilation and the winner gets a new Audi. Details can be found at Salon.com and NeverFollow.com. Sounds like fun to me... :D
