TOKYO (Reuters) - Google Inc.'s YouTube.com removed 29,549 video files from its popular Web site after receiving a demand from a group of Japanese media companies over copyright infringement, an industry group said on Friday. The television, music and movie clips had been posted without the permission of copyright holders, the Tokyo-based Japan Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers said in a statement. Subway Napster for the London Tube: undersound Undersound is a new project to distribute music around the London Underground trains. Users can upload songs from their collections to centralized distribution points, and download tracks left by other users. The system keeps tack of which tracks came from what station --this is a public-transit version of the "Traffic Napster" that appears in my novel, Eastern Standard Tribe. undersound will be spatially distributed at individual stations and throughout the wider tube network. I can add music to the system at upload points in the ticket halls , and I can download tracks on the platforms. Architectural configuration of the stations affects my experience of contributing and downloading music as the proximal nature of the interaction with these situated points require s myself and other undersound users to congregate at certain locations within the station for the purpose of interacting with the system. Each track in the undersound system will be tagged with its place of origin (the station where it was uploaded) and this information is visible as the track is being played. This may trigger memories and musings around my personal relationship to that place. Is there also a correlation between the flow of people around the tube network and the flow of music tracks around the undersound network? What might a sense of place for these digital artefacts be? Do they care about geographical location too or might their sense of place revolve around the quality and type of network and the technological devices they pass through? Source: BoingBoing

The world’s largest search engine said yesterday that its third-quarter profits nearly doubled from a year ago, as it maintained a torrid growth rate that is highly unusual for a company of its size. NEW YORK (AP) -- Backing away from a confrontation with religious groups, NBC said Thursday it has decided not to show pictures of Madonna mounting a Crucifix when it airs a concert special with the pop star next month. The concert, which lists Madonna as an executive producer, is scheduled to air Nov. 22. During the provocative passage in her concert, Madonna is shown on a mirrored cross wearing a crown of thorns. Robbie Williams was back to his cheeky self last night as he bared his bottom on stage at the MTV Latin America Awards in Mexico City. After performing on stage he set upon a very lucky girl. However, she might have been concerned about his intentions as seconds later he put his hand down his pants and bared his perfectly pert bottom on stage - before he snogged the fan. Happy Friday everyone! A fun weekend for me - I will start Friday night by eating off this Menu :) The Steak House website is down, so the menu will have to do. Saturday nite I'm heading over to Largo to see Doveman, Thomas Bartlett's (the editor of Salon's Audiofile) band--not sure who Im hanging with, but tender offers are out lol.
