LOS ANGELES - Jane Wyatt, the lovely, serene actress who for six years on "Father Knows Best" was one of TV's favorite moms, has died, her publicist said Sunday. She was 96. Wyatt died Friday in her sleep of natural causes at her Bel-Air home, according to publicist Meg McDonald. Her death also was confirmed by Bernard Johnson of the funeral home Gates, Kingsley & Gates Moeller Murphy Funeral Directors. Wyatt had a successful film career in the 1930s and '40s, notably as Ronald Colman's lover in 1937's "Lost Horizon." Source: Yahoo News

LONDON (Hollywood Reporter) - British rock band Oasis will be honored for its "outstanding contribution to music" during the U.K.'s annual Brit Awards in London next year, organizers said Thursday. "Oasis set the standard for many of the young rock bands who are currently enjoying success in the U.K. charts," said Peter Jamieson, chairman of the British Phonographic Industry. The ceremony -- which is being televised live for the first time in nearly two decades -- will take place on Feb. 14 at Earl's Court. It will air on ITV. Read more at AOL Music

Sting: "Today's Rock Music Is Boring"
DudeAsInCool replied to DudeAsInCool's topic in Music & Entertainment News
I'd see the new Who before I'd listen to Sting's new craft. It's a shame, because I liked Sting's early stuff -

My brother worked at the Green Bank Observatory when he was in college--I visited there in my early teens. Quite beautiful. We have noticed a Crow infestation as of late here on my street. Yesterday, there were about 40 on the street... For a moment, I thought I was gonna be attacked like the people were in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds

Film master shot through political lens.....
DudeAsInCool replied to KiwiCoromandel's topic in Movie Talk
Pontecorvo I like a film called Lucia by Humerto Solas--it's a Cuban film which covers its evolution from the early 1900s thru the 1960s and is done in 3 parts--the first act is a self contained silent picture; the second act is a mob picture; and the third act is a pop/60s picture. Hard to find, but it's brilliant , both thematically and stylistically Leni Riefenstahl's Triumph of the Will and DW Griffith's Birth of a Nation and Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator are also notable political classics -

I doubt the facts were known to the public back then, either. Why telling a true story like this is denounced as anti-Republican is beyond me. If the moron who criticized it doesnt like it, then he can should his own film... -

ELEVEN years after O J Simpson walked free from America's most controversial murder trial, the former star athlete is at the centre of a row over reports that he is being paid $3.5m for an autobiography in which he describes how he "hypothetically" might have murdered his ex-wife and her male friend. Relatives of Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman, the two victims of the 1994 double murder that made headlines around the world, expressed disgust and frustration that Simpson might be continuing to profit from a crime that most Americans are convinced he committed, despite his notorious acquittal. Heather: Paul beat up Linda as well Her latest and most outrageous claim causes fury in the McCartney camp Heather Mills has outrageously alleged that Sir Paul McCartney used to beat up his first wife Linda - a claim that even her own supporters say puts a question mark against her honesty. The former model's extraordinary claim follows the publication of explosive divorce papers alleging that Sir Paul had attacked her with a broken wine glass. She threatened to repeat it in court. A close friend told The Mail on Sunday: "She told me that he did to Linda what he did to her. She says that staff of Paul's told her that Linda had also suffered abuse." Read more Right. THE double Oscar-winner Dustin Hoffman has made an angry attack on the “euthanasia” of the film industry, which he complains tries to “bury” any film that is not an instant cash cow. “If the film doesn’t make money over that first weekend of its release, they will bury it,” said Hoffman, speaking yesterday as he visited Britain for the premiere of his latest film, Stranger Than Fiction, at The Times London Film Festival. The 69-year-old actor, whose films include The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy and Rain Man, said: “Euthanasia is legal in Hollywood. They just kill the film if it doesn’t succeed immediately.” Read more at the Times Online
