  1. Ben and Jerry's is a famous ice cream company, but they aren't afraid to get political. Today is 4/20, a revered holiday for most stoners across the globe. Even if you smoke every day, 4/20 holds a special place in the hearts of pot smokers. To celebrate the holidays, many companies are running weed based campaigns, and out here in Los Angeles, dispensaries are managing amazing weed deals. Ben and Jerry's decided to celebrate in a different way though: by calling out the racial disparity in the justice system. In a video clip that runs for just under a minute, Ben and Jerry's addresses that fact that white millionaires are investing in weed, and states are reaping the benefits of the taxes on the plant. Still, a disproportionate amount of Black men sit in prison at this very moment for selling pot. How is this fair? Ben and Jerry's raises that question with their promo, and recommends that "legalization doesn't leave people of color behind." To make things even bolder, Ben and Jerry's asks that all weed charges be expunged for those who carry the damaging scar on their records. It's almost as if Ben and Jerry's knows their clientele is comprised of millions of stoners who love ice cream. View the full article
  2. In what has to be the least expected update concerning George Zimmerman's civil status, Creative Loafing is reporting that he's been given the boot by popular online dating platform Tinder for operating under a fake name. Zimmerman was famously acquitted of murdering Trayvon Martin, causing him to become a virtual "enemy of the state" for taking his civic duties to a whole other level of bigotry. The Tampa-based periodical claims that Zimmerman listed "himself" on Tinder as a self-employed consultant seeking quote-unquote "carefree fun," as well as a partner to share in his love of camping and outdoorsy activities. Gary Green/The Orlando Sentinel-Pool/Getty Images "At Tinder, we take our users’ safety very seriously and our team has removed this profile from our platform," a spokesperson for Tinder told the Washington Post once the news had come to light. “We utilize a network of industry-leading automated and manual moderation and review tools, systems and processes — and spend millions of dollars annually to prevent, monitor and remove bad actors who have violated our Community terms and guidelines." It's not readily known whether the false identity Zimmerman created on Tinder had any effect on the dating pool within his geo-network. A similar situation occurred late last year when Bumble forced him off their platform as well, citing the same old ruse of a false identity. I gather it's pretty hard to get a date when most people know you as a cold-blooded murderer, and rightly so. [Via] View the full article
  3. Donald Trump is on Twitter every day going off about one topic or another. There really is no need for people to try to interpret his words or defend him, because he enjoys sharing lengthy rants that lays everything out in the open. Still, Tomi Lahren has made it her life duty to comes to Trump's defense at any moment. Former First Lady Michelle Obama was on a London stop of her Becoming book tour, and The Independent claims that she compared Trump's White House to living with a divorced father. Tomi didn't like that at all. "We come from a broken family," Obama said. "We are a teenager where, you know, we're a little unsettled, you know, and having good parents, you know, is tough. Sometimes you spend weekends with divorced dad and that feels like it's fun but then you get sick. That's what America is going through. We're kind of living with divorced dad, right?" Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade showed a clip of Mrs. Obama’s comments before passing things off to Lahren. "Well, I think Michelle Obama is becoming incredibly tasteless, and to use that kind of language to attack the president, I'm not very shocked or surprised by it," began Lahren. "I will say this: Can you imagine if a conservative would compare anyone to [a] single mom in a derogatory fashion? There would be outrage, there would be backlash, it would be all over social media. But because Michelle Obama is Michelle Obama, she's a Democrat and she has the last name of Obama, she can get away with it." The internet was quick to defy Lahren, who seemingly forgot that Trump is a divorced dad. He has been divorced twice, and married his mistress who is now our First Lady. Twitter made sure to remind Lahren of this fact. View the full article
  4. Childish Gambino's second tour of duty saw him literally set the festival grounds on fire. Why not begin this account of Glover's Coachella 2019 with a recap of what went down in Week 1. 7 Days ago, Childish Gambino set the stage ablaze in a different way, with tributes to both Nipsey Hussle and the Mac Miller nestled in between strong performances of his best material, songs like "Redbone," "Summertime Magic," "Have Some Love," "Terrified" This Is America," and even a one of a kind cover of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy." In his second Coachella set in as many weeks, Gambino performed much of the same material, except in this instance he closed the set with a fireworks-laden rendition of "Redbone." Before closing up shop, Gambino welcomed Chance the Rapper onstage for a heartfelt "bro-out" moment. The pair had met just hours before the commencement of Glover's set. According to TMZ, Chance and his new friend "clicked" behind the scenes, where the scene for the Chicagoans appearance on stage. Unfortunately, since he and Gambino don't a history of recording together, Chance's appearance was relegated to a "hug and greet" without the benefit a premeditated song and dance. Something tells me, we haven't seen the last of them in a musical capacity. They have FAR too much in common from an outsider's perspective. My question to those who witnessed both of Glover's 2019 iterations: which concert showing shone the brightest, hit us with your thoughts in the comment section below? [Via] View the full article
  5. Twista may be in album mode. He dropped a single earlier in 2019, and now he's returned with some new heat. "War Ready" is a low-key banger. It may not be getting the commercial play it deserves, but this is Twista at his best. He has always sounded rawer over those mysterious and dark sounding instrumentals, and "War Ready" is no different. Produced by DJ Tight Mike, "War Ready" is a militant hit. As expected, Twista steps onto the single with a rapid-fire flow. The speedy vet does switch it up though, employing some more modern flows in with his patented style. If you enjoyed Twista back in the Kamikaze days, this is a single you cannot skip. The outro to the track is a little lengthy, but you'll find yourself nodding to the eerie instrumental until the last drum drops. Quotable Lyrics All of your intelligence was too artificial You speak only of irrelevance and you likin' the elegance Nothin' is real and you ain't even part official Hit the yellow brick road, you ain't got the heart up in you Hangin' with nothin' but lames, look at the artist with you I spit so fast with the words, I could scar the tissue I bring action to a verb, like a participle View the full article
  6. Kevin Gates seems to effortlessly create bangers for the streets. While his fans patiently wait on his next project to drop, Gates has blessed them with a new single in reward for their loyalty. Gates dropped off "Big Gangsta," a new track where he displays his penchant for clever bars and booming choruses. The instrumental is comprised of a soft harp sounding synth and a booming bass, leaving lots of breathing room on the beat for Gates to go off. Gates' chorus sounds like something he's done before, but that doesn't take away from the catchiness of it. Sing song flows and stop and go structures are methodically managed by Gates on this single, which will be a favorite this upcoming Summer. 7. 4/20: the annual day of rest and doobies. It's the one day you should be doing absolutely nothing if you can help it. Yet even as weed has become more culturally accepted, the stoner movie is still the ideal form of entertainment on a day like today. The ideal stoner movie presents the viewer with a ton of harebrained schemes and red-eyed puns with laughter on the fringes of dead sobriety. Sure, you could watch just about anything when you're high – nature documentaries and sports recaps will momentarily hold your attention but a stoner comedy keeps you laughing again and again. The being said, here's our "best of" of the stoner subgenre's greatest hits. Spark one up and let's get rolling. Friday Friday is the quintessential stoner film that doesn’t try to peddle the subject right on the nose. Thanks to DJ Pooh and Ice Cube's fantastic writing, the movie unfolds at a casual pace, illustrated by the manner in which "Smokey" persuades Craig (Ice Cube) to smoke weed with the idiomatic phrasing of, "cause it's Friday, you ain't got no job, and you ain't got shit to do." The rest of the movie runs at an idyllic pace, making every revisitation of the movie feel like a reunion with a beloved neighborhood friend you haven’t seen in years. How High Method Man and Redman are a comedic duo of the highest order, refined after many years of collaborating musically. How High marked their transition to the silver screen. Red and Meth play "Jamal and Silas," underachieving stoners who gain admission at Harvard with the help of special chronic powered by the ashes of a dead genius friend – the two characters adjust to university life while simultaneously focusing their attention on the feminine wiles of Jamie (Nia Long) and Lauren (Lark Voorhies). While a sequel starring Lil Yachty and D.C. Young Fly is set to air on 4/20, one wishes they would have gone with the original cast and crew for a trip down Memory Lane. Half Baked Questlove once claimed that had Dave Chappelle been given carte blanche to do as he pleased with the Half Baked script, the film would be regarded as a bonafide classic comedy in the grand scheme of things. As it stands, Half Baked is charming in its own right, in telling the story of a romp through NYC led by Chappelle and his crew as they look for ways to get their friend out of jail by selling off whatever medical reefer they can lay their hands on. Years later, Chappelle and Neal Brennan would strike comedy gold with Chappelle's Show, years after laying the foundation of their partnership on Half Baked. Dazed and Confused Richard Linklater captured the essence of a "last day of school" in stunning form, crafting Dazed and Confused, a coming of age film spanning several different perspectives. The film boasts so many delightful elements, like music from Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin, the happenstance of aliens, burnouts, jocks, and the humor of a vintage Matthew McConaughey landing plenty of 4/20 jokes along the way. As the movie wears on it takes on the feeling of a dogged day of summer. Pineapple Express A process server and his weed dealer become the unlikeliest of friends after a murder scenario links them together, relating to a rare strain of weed they happen to hold in their possession. Before long, the two unlikely friends become subjected to ninjas, assassins, angry parents, on slippery slpe that includes cop chases gone wrong and gang shootouts. With Rogen and Franco at the helm, the comedic punch of the movie doesn't reveal itself in the ways you'd expect it. But Pineapple Express still delights when rewatched thanks to its dialogue – when was the last time you told someone you were glad you dipped in the company ink? Super Troopers In Spurbury, Vermont, the state troopers who patrol the highways are wired a little differently. These troopers play pranks on the local stoners and fight the deputies that rank below them. Suddenly, budget cuts threaten to change the order of things and demand they clean up their act. Where Super Troopers succeeds is in stringing together a series of hilarious gags in a freewheeling manner that is equal parts charming as it is outrageous. The Big Lebowski "Well, that’s like your opinion, man," is a lasting memory from the Coen Brothers to the rest of us. The Big Lebowski takes us through an insane day-in-the-life of a man named "The Dude" who barely stumbles to make things happen. He abides by bowling, going for drives and toking up (to the point of mistaken identity). It's a story that doesn't aim to make any sense, giving off the illusion of a long acid flashback. In some ways, The Big Lebowski is the perfect movie to watch when high, because Jeff Bridges's "The Dude" character embodies the epitome of what a free spirit should be: living the dream life yet forever hateful towards The Eagles. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure Whoah! Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter play two high school kids who manage to travel through time for the sole purpose of acing a history presentation. It's loveable, endearing and most importantly, watching Winter and Reeves interact with the likes of Socrates, Abraham Lincon, Joan of Arc and Genghis Khan with a dumbfounded expression on their faces is pure stoner comedy gold. Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle We can all relate to embarking on a trip to get food when the munchies hit, which is incidentally where Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle takes its idea to its utter zenith. For Harold and Kumar, only White Castle suffice in weathering their munchies, leading them on a series of grand misadventures – including a run-in with an escaped cheetah, an ecstasy-addled Neil Patrick Harris, a raccoon and plenty more. 8. The scandal surrounding Jussie Smollett is well known to the American public. The Empire actor allegedly staged an attack on himself, and then was arrested for lying to police about it. He was deemed guilty in the court of public opinion, but the prosecution dropped his charges in a strange twist of events. The entire story sounds like an Empire plotline, and now the city of Chicago is suing Smollett for the cost of the investigation. Jojo Smollett, Jussie's brother, wrote a compelling op-ed piece for BET entitled What If Jussie Is Telling The Truth? In the article, JoJo writes, "I have literally seen him violently awakening from night terrors, following the assault. Some of my siblings, as well as Jussie’s partner and closest friends have seen similar things." JoJo also takes shots at the Chicago PD, writing, "the Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department announced publicly that Jussie’s motive in staging an attack was so he could make more money from Empire. Fox immediately said that wasn’t true but the police chief never withdrew his accusation. The chief also stated as fact that Jussie had sent himself the threatening letter that arrived at the Empire production offices weeks before the attack. The FBI then refuted this claim. Again, the chief did not correct his accusations." JoJo goes into more facts from a personal level in the piece, but his words will do little save his brother now. Whether or not Jussie committed the crime, he has already faced judgment in the eyes of the public. Although things do look grim for Jussie, Taraji P. Henson claims he will return to Empire. 11. The sequel to How High 2 doesn't bring Redman and Method Man back into the fold - but that's hardly why the veteran rappers haven't too quick to endorse it. Redman explained his displeasure with the movie as a simple lack of courtesy. "Long story short is that me and Meth was not aware that they were doing this transaction with the movie. I’m not mad at Yachty or DC Fly—like I said, it has nothing to do with them," Redman said on the Grass Routes podcast on behalf of him and his other half. Then there's the issue of continuity fans of the cult film want upheld at all costs, through no fault of DC Young Fly and Lil Yachty. Much of the criticism coming from fans (social media) relates to the purely commercial motivation behind the MTV and Universal 1440 Entertainment co-production. As one Twitter user so succinctly put it, "Literally NO ONE asked for How High 2." Make of it what you will, but that statement reads like a call for integrity, more so than a denunciation of any of the actors, writers, and producers enlisted on the project. Even Mike Epps joined the How High 2 cast while feigning absolutely no interest in its final outcome or critical reception. Ouch! For what it's worth, the film is still going to stream on a host of subscription services/channels at 4:20 on the dot. You can watch the trailer in-full right here. On that note, let's make this year's 420 a positive experience like nothing else. The exact details regarding the broadcast can be sourced at Heavy.com. View the full article
  12. Beyonce's 2018 Coachella performance was legendary. A year after the event, Bey and Netlifx teamed up to release Homecoming, a documentary that takes fans behind the scenes for what will be considered one of Beyonce's most historic moments. Beyonce was the first Black women to ever headline Coachella, making it more than just a moment for her career. It was a moment for the culture. The documentary also touches on Beyonce's pregnancy, and her insane regimen to get back in shape to take the stage. According to Variety, Homecoming was just the first of three specials with Netlifx. The site reports that Bey agreed to a massive $60 million deal to stream the specials directly on Netflix. Variety claims (via Vulture) that HBO was interested in airing the specials since they have a relationship with the Carters. HBO aired Beyonce's 2016 Lemonade film, her 2014 On the Run Tour concert special with Jay-Z, and the 2013 documentary Life Is But a Dream. Netflix approached camp Carter with a more lucrative offer though. Beyonce fans can expect the future specials to come with accompanying music as well. Homecoming came along with a surprise 40-track album that includes two bonus songs, “Before I Let Go” and “I Been On.” View the full article
  13. Yesterday afternoon, FKA Twig revealed plans for a world tour beginning next month in Los Angeles. After fulfilling her duties in California on May 7th, she'll book it for New York for the last time on North American soil. Then it's off to Berlin, London, Paris, and Barcelona for the European leg before she wraps up her tour schedule in the unlikeliest of locales: Hobart, Tasmania. It's all written in plain English; peep the graphics displayed on her Twitter down below. Kevin Mazur/Getty Images In reality, the New York stop calls for a double-booking, as FKA Twigs will be asked to make consecutive appearances at this year's Red Bull Music Festival, the surviving element from the company's numerous foreclosures. Earlier this month, Red Bull announced that both its academy and radio program would be phased out after 21 years of service. The gig in Barcelona was born out of similar circumstances, as a central element to the city's ever-expanding "Primavera Sound" festival. The 2019 lineup will also boast Cardi B, J Balvin, Erykah Badu, Future, Janelle Monáe, Nas, Pusha-T, 070 Shake, James Blake, Danny Brown, Kali Uchis, slowthai, Ivy Queen, Mura Masa, Rico Nasty, Gangsta Boo, and Tierra Whack in prominent spots. Oddly enough, FKA Twig has been able to retain much of her appeal, even though she's been relatively inactive (musically) in the last 4 years. The last time FKA Twig fans saw any published material was in 2015 when she released her M3LL155X EP. [Via] View the full article
  14. We all remember the years where Eminem's love for drugs seeped into this ability to create music. Songs like "Rain Man," "Big Weenie" and "Ass Like That," where Em rapped as a puppet puppy, highlighted the rapper's erratic actions during the time. After almost dying from an overdose in 2007, Em decided it was time for a change. Doctors informed Em that he was “about two hours from dying" when he arrived at the hospital, causing the veteran rapper to recalibrate his movements. Since then, Slim Shady has been clean. Eminem took to social media on April 20th, a day heavily celebrated as a weed smoker's Christmas. Instead of the typical 4/20 celebratory post, Em took a picture of himself holding an 11-year coin from his 12-step program. “11 years,” he wrote as the caption. “still not afraid.” They say once an addict, always an addict, so Eminem found a better way to channel his addiction: running. In a 2015 Billboard piece, Em spoke on how he replaced drugs with exercise. “The coating on the Vicodin and the Valium I’d been taking for years leaves a hole in your stomach, so to avoid a stomachache, I was constantly eating — and eating badly,” he stated. “I got an addict’s brain, and when it came to running, I think I got a little carried away. I became a fucking hamster. Seventeen miles a day on a treadmill. I would get up in the morning, and before I went to the studio, I would run eight and a half miles in about an hour. Then I’d come home and run another eight and a half.” View the full article
  15. I ain't one to use the term slapper lightly, but Still Summer in the Projects carries the weight of the word 11 songs-deep. Still Summer is latest project slated for a timed released while 03 Greedo disputes his 20-year sentence on good behavior. "10 Purple Summers" starts the proceedings on an emphatic note, with DJ Mustard co-opting the synth pack made "famous" by the HBK collective on a lesser scale. "10 Purple Summers" is replete with flashcards linking him to the Grape Street outfit for which he remains loyal. Just as Still Summer in the Projets was going to press, Noisey published a video with Greedo and the Watts riots as their subject. The Grape Street representer doesn't have to retell his story a thousand or show his pearly gold fronts. Every last one of his songs imbues meaning. If he stopped to recount the complete jungle book, we'd be seated for hours on end. Greedo's life is of trials, tribulations, nomadic treks, and a whole lot of character-building. Those who remain stuck on the 2pac comments are no better than Ebro in their short-sightedness. There's plenty of other time-released material planned in the itinerary so it keep it locked for however long this grandstand is meant to last. Free Greedo! 16. Boyz N Da Hood, Baby Boy, 2Fast 2Furious, Poetic Justice, Four Brothers, and Shaft are just a few of the movies that legendary director John Singleton brought to life. His presence in Hollywood has helped launch several acting careers and he has a number of hood classics under his belt. As reported by TMZ, the veteran director has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke. A family member told the media site that Singleton checked himself in earlier this week after experiencing weakness in his leg. A plane flight back from Costa Rica appears to be what triggered the medical ailment. Doctors are currently performing tests and doing rehab for Singleton. Snoop Dogg took to Instagram to ask for prayers for Singleton, who was integral in introducing Black Los Angeles culture to mass media. The director most recently created the hit series Snowfall, and has been spending his time teaching at the USC Film School, instructing a course called Film and Culture. The stroke was considered to be mild, but doctors are still keeping a close eye on the veteran. Among his long list of classics, Singleton also worked on The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, Michael Jackson's music video, "Remember the Time" Empire, and Billions. We wish the legend a speedy recovery. View the full article
  17. The ancient wisdom of bunning weed isn't lost on the hip-hop faithful, and thankfully so. Every 420, the ardent smokers within our community become shamans for one-day-only. This year's 420 falls on a day of rest, giving way to a ritual countdown free of paranoia. Free of the rush-rush e-mails you might encounter during a weekday. Just a whole lot of weed smoke in the general atmosphere, equating to a welcome confusion of sorts, will all the intermingling strains we've been introduced in the dawn of "boutique ganja." The beauty of 420 is that it doesn't require you to fly off to Amsterdam or book a fancy ticket to the "Cannabis Cup" just to get in on the dynamism. Once you get your hands on the plug, you're but a few steps away from realizing your ideal 420 experience. That's where our Wake & Bake Playlist comes into play in rounding out the goodness. This year's Spotify submission retains much of the irrevokable material from past issuances (this is our 3rd-year serving this public need). Songs like Wiz Khalifa's "Mezmorized" and Red & Meth's "How High" have become 420 standards, and hence they take valuable real estate on our Wake & Bake list. Several new additions to the yearly mix have come to pass, by artists like Mick Jenkins, Rico Nasty, Lil Baby and Valee. Hip-hop and rolling up go hand in hand, so why do without either precept. So before so set up shop in a comfortable locale, give us your thoughts on our Wake & Bake picks, and tell us, what's strain are you going with this weekend? Happy 420, be safe. ---- View the full article
  18. According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Johnny Depp stooped to a new low when it came to messing with his ex Amber Heard's career. Heard stated in a declaration to dismiss filings in response to Depp's defamation lawsuit, "Following my highly-publicized separation from Johnny, ... I lost a part for a movie in which I had already been cast." She also wrote in a Washington Post op-ed that she was advised that she may be "blacklisted." "Questions arose as to whether I would be able to keep my role of Mera in the movies Justice League and Aquaman," she stated. Warner Bros.’ previous chairman Kevin Tsujihara has been asked to testify about any part he had in “blacklisting” Heard at the studio. Depp allegedly “personally lobbied” Tsujihara to drop Heard from Aquaman. THR writes that deposition requests “do not offer evidence Tsujihara took action to prevent Heard from securing roles in Warner's movies,” adding that it would be “extremely difficult” to push her out from the DC film after she debuted as Mera in Justice League. She already had history in the DCEU, and had Zack Snyder's blessing to continue to play the underwater warrior. Aquaman went into production around April 2016, which was over a month before Heard’s divorce filing and restraining order against Depp. View the full article
  19. As it stands, Freddie Gibbs' collaborative project with Madlib only boasts the two published singles ("Flat Tummy Tea" and the eponymously titled "Bandana") on the presumptive tracklist. Apparently, that's only the information North Americans are being fed during the final countdown to its release. In a recently-published interview with Juice magazine in Germany, Gibbs shared the names of a few notable contributors that are set to feature on the project, come deadline day. The conversation began with the German interviewer looking down at a fact sheet that was likely presented to him by Freddie's reps in preparation for the conversation. Before we get into the proceedings, I'd like to thank the Reddit faithful for undergoing the German-to-English translation efforts. Major thanks. The following is a loose transcript of the interviewer's question (appearing in German in the flesh). The Juice journalist starts off by mentioning some of the names off his cue card index, to the effect of... "Q: The choices of features on the new record are also indicative of that: Pusha T, Yasiin Bey, Black Thought, Killer Mike, Anderson .Paak. How did those collabs come about?" as per the Reddit translation. Freddie Gibbs is then believed to have answered the following in accordance with the front-loaded question. "Those are all legends, guys who I have a lot of respect for and guys who respect me in return," Gibbs says in reverence of his guest list. "At first I didn’t want to have any features on the record, but that it did end up happening is a blessing. The track with Pusha and Killer Mike turned into my favorite song - and Pusha didn’t need need to do me that favor." he continues. "I think there’s a lot of other MCs that are too scared to be on a song with me," before capping things off by shouting out Jay Rock, the lone artist from his 2010 XXL Freshman class that he wound up collaborating with. Let's be real here, these big name reveals undoubtedly heighten expectation for the Madlib x Gibbs sequel, to a seemingly insurmountable level. Hit us with your thoughts. View the full article
  20. After spending quite some time on Epic Records, Stro made the creative decision to ditch his label and sign with Nas' Mass Appeal records. The young New Yorker has since been building his clout by dropping off bar after bar on freestyles over tracks such as 2 Chainz’s “Statute of Limitations” and ScHoolboy Q’s “Numb Numb Juice.“ Now, Stro has teamed up with producer Kenneth English for the single "Mansions." "Mansions" features a melodious instrumental that soothes listeners with vintage sounding keys and a buzzing synth. Stro attacks the beat with a slow flow and lyrics about finding motivation. "Mansions" was released in Stro's Grade A Fridays series, and is his first solo outing since “I’m Up." Stro appears to be going for more a radio-friendly single with this one, but it's still a smooth banger you can play in any scenario. 21. It only took little over a week to complete the turnaround. The HNHH Freestyle Sessions are back for the 58th time in its existence. This week emerging Memphis rapper NLE Choppa stopped by to kick a quick 1-2. Unless you've been sleeping under a rock, you've heard of Choppa or his viral scorcher "Shotta Flow," the single by which he built his buzz, causing a bidding war for his services in the process. After dropping tons of debutant material, a modest number on streaming platforms, NLE Choppa started spotting up as a "featured artist" on a bevy of major releases, including Lost Planet, the mixtape Smokepurpp offered us yesterday as a precursor to Deadstar 2 with Lil Pump. As he demonstrated on "Double" a day prior to our Freestyle Session, NLE Choppa brings a rare mixture of nonchalance and infectious charisma to the plate every time. Our HNHH Freestyle was no different. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates from the NLE camp and subscribe to HNHH TV for more exclusive content with your favorite rappers. 22. If you think French Montana is just posturing when he clamors for Max B's immediate release from prison, think again. The Coke Wave collaborators were the bestest of buds before the Harlemite rapper got hemmed up on robbery charges. Public support has been easy to come by for Max B, as he's seen his name contributed to compilations like Gangster Music Vol. 1, his vocals consolidated on songs like "A Lie" featuring The Weeknd, and that doesn't even account for the sentiment of injustice his absurd 75-year sentencing engendered. Image via Tidal In February French Montana predicted that Max B would be released sometime before the year (2019) was up. He doubled down on those claims/hopes in the recent Zane Lowe podcast where he offered updates on Kanye's grandiose Yandhi project. But on the subject of Max B's release from prison, French Montana alluded to conferring with lawyer-to-be Kim Kardashian, in using the "Free Max B" movement as training grounds for the bar exam she'll eventually be asked to take to complete her law degree. You just got to find the ways, and especially with everything going on now, the opportunity for you ... Just watching Kylie become a billionaire and watching certain people just break certain records, it makes you feel like the land of where dreams come true. You know what I'm saying? I mean, life is like a mirror sometimes. And sometimes a lot of people don't see the good that they do, like as far as Kim," French told Zane Lowe. "Me and Kim was talking about getting Max B home from jail. 'Cause she's doing the whole thing with .... So, like for her to even reach out and do that I felt like that was powerful. A lot of people don't see things like that." For those who think this Kim Kardashian - lawyer thing is nothing but a mirage, consider this: she's been knee-deep in social justice reforms since the meeting with The Donald in 2018, her father was a famous lawyer in the OJ trial, etc... and well, she said it herself - she's registered with the California State Bar for the next 4 years minimum. Regardless of whether she follows through with her plan, there's a hope Max B will gain his freedom at the soonest possible time. The game's been missing his cadence like no other. 23. Before TrillStatik became the 420 exclusive it is today, Bun B and Statik Selektah shared the cumulative steps in a YouTube testimonial video. Admittedly not all 11 hours and 40 mins of the expedient recording process are outlined in the video. Before you let your inner-schtickler take hold, consider that Statik Selektah only began chronicling his stopwatch once the album's curation was set in place. Peep the video here. TrillStatik is exactly what you'd expect of the portmanteau. With Statik Selektah laying the foundation of a "boom-bap" template prevalent in his other works, all that remained for Bun B was to adjust his Trill OG meter by the slightest of margins. The result is a joint album that bears both their likenesses and a bevy of big-name contributions from either side of the coin flip. The NorthEast and H-Town are represented in equal measure to reflect the universality of 420. TrillStatik 1. Moving Mountains (Ft. JaVonté) 2. Still Trill (Ft. Grafh & Method Man) 3. Basquiat (Ft. 24. Kodak Black hasn't let a little thing like getting arrested at the Canadian-United States border stop him from getting paid. The Florida rapper has capitalized off of his recent controversies—whether they come from rap beefs or legal issues—and has created a platform where he's in the headlines almost daily. His recent run-in with the law occurred just a few days ago when he tried to re-enter the U.S. after attempting to trek from Detroit to Boston by traveling through Canada and into New York. While he was reportedly about to make his way into the U.S., he was stopped and searched at the New York border. He and his entourage were found with marijuana and loaded weapons. The rapper paid his $20K bond and upon release, he got right back to work. He was forced to cancel two shows due to his brief incarceration, but yesterday he dropped the video for his much talked about single "Expeditiously" and has a number of shows lined up. However, TMZ reports that Kodak may have to rethink his upcoming Canadian concerts because it looks like he could be denied entry into America's friendly neighbors up north. According to the publication, Kodak is scheduled to perform in Montreal on Monday and Toronto on Tuesday, but the Canada Border Service Agency tells them that "anyone crossing the border into Canada must demonstrate that they meet the requirements to enter or stay in the country, and involvement in criminal activity is grounds to bar someone from entering." Yet, those eligible for entry, even with criminal records, are considered on a case-by-case basis. People determined to have felony charges or a serious criminal history will catch more resistance when at the border. However, even if Kodak is rejected, he could request a Temporary Resident Permit, but even then, with his history, it could be like fighting a losing battle. View the full article
  25. Retired NBA star Matt Barnes has been divorced from Gloria Govan for three years, but their ongoing legal battles have kept the former couple in the limelight. They first aired their dirty laundry out for the world to see on Basketball Wives L.A., but now that Barnes has a new lady friend and Govan is engaged to Los Angeles Sparks coach Derek Fisher, one would think that moving on could possibly cause these two to play nice. Recently Barnes and Govan had a run-in involving their children, causing Govan to lose much of her custody rights that she's petitioning the court to have returned to her. Those that like to troll Barnes online have used his former relationship with Govan as bait, just as one person did yesterday. Barnes issued a tweet about the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers game saying, "Hopefully y’all will stop w this PatBev locking up or shutting down KD. Only person that can stop KD is Westbrook." The man replied, "This exactly why Derek Fisher be f*cking ya baby momma you slow corny motherf*cker f*ck you for ruining all those Lob City squads with your sh*tty defense." It's safe to say that the Twitter Troll wasn't a Matt Barnes fan. The former NBA player fired back, "After you done being mad go wash that green off your neck from that fake ass chain B*tch!" This tit-for-tat wasn't over as the troll said, "Derek Fisher crashed your car getting head from your wife and you not in the NBA no more so now you arguing with my broke ass. Dweeb ass n*gga." Barnes had time for one last retort, making it known that he and Fisher may have had more than just a few words. "I retired dickhead.. 15yrs & still being paid until November 2020! You gotta do better than DFish jokes. He already caught these hands. You can be nxt ." View the full article
