  3. Though it initially suffered from a healthy dose of Migos-fatigue upon its release in January 2019, Offset's debut solo album Father Of 4 was an enjoyable listen that probably deserves revisitation. And since its been a reasonably decent chunk of time since the Migos gang have come through with an album -- their most recent, Culture 2, landed at the beginning of 2018 -- it's actually starting to feel like some new music from the Atlanta trio would be most welcome. Patience is a virtue as they say, and Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff have been patient indeed. Ser Baffo/Getty Images While it's unclear as to whether or not the recently-retitled Migos album (FKA Culture 3) will be coming anytime soon, we do know a little bit about what can be expected -- read up on everything we know about the project right here. Now, Offset has once again kicked up further hype with a promising new snippet, though it's unclear as to whether he's previewing new Migos music or something from his own solo catalog. In the clip, as captured by Our Generation Music, Offset can be seen in his fabled room of sneakers, blasting a new horn-driven banger that finds him spitting rapid-fire bars with his signature flow. Though it's a little difficult to make out some of his lines, given that the audio quality isn't as clear as a studio recording, it sounds we'll be getting a healthy mix of humor and hard-hitting flexes throughout this one. "He stankin', somebody shitted," he spits. "He a demon at heart, so he with it / he gon' pop till the percocet kill him / gotta pay me five mill that's the minimum." Check out the snippet below, and sound off if you're excited to see some new music from the Migos camp. View the full article
  4. A week after the horrifying riot on Capitol Hill, President Donald Trump still believes he was correct in handling the Capitol rioters. As Trump prepared to leave D.C. for Alamo, Texas to discuss the border, he was asked about his responsibility for last week's events. Trump defended the remarks he made last week that helped incite a crowd of his supporters to violently storm the U.S. Capitol. "If you read my speech, and many people have done it and I've seen it both in the papers and in the media, on television, it's been analyzed and people thought that what I said was totally appropriate," Trump said. "Everybody to a 'T' thought it was totally appropriate." Trump, instead, said the protests that occurred this past summer were “the real problem.” "If you look at what other people have said, politicians at a high level about the riots during the summer, the horrible riots in Portland and Seattle and various other places, that was a real problem,” he said. Trump's comments came six days after riots in and around the Capitol by his supporters left five people dead and many others injured. They also come one day before the House is set to impeach him, for the second time, over his role in inciting the riots. Drew Angerer/Getty Images On January 6th before the riot, Trump said to his supporters, "You'll never take back our country with weakness, you have to show strength and you have to be strong." He went on, "if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore." Trump's role in the riots has been widely condemned by lawmakers in both parties. He was also banned from Twitter and other platforms for using them to incite his supporters — suspensions that the President on Tuesday blasted as "a terrible mistake" by "big tech". The House of Representatives plans to vote tonight on a measure calling on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment against President Donald Trump. Under the 25th Amendment, the Vice President can assume power as acting President if a majority of the Cabinet determines the President is "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office." 5. It's hard to declare a proper Gunna season, as Gunna tends to drop so frequently that every season feels the impact of his presence. And with another new year comes a clean slate for the YSL rapper, who never fails to line his calendar with milestones. As it happens, we've officially received a promising hint at what's to come, with a recent IG story from a Gunna studio session providing a glimpse at his next two projects. Lorne Thomson/Redferns/Getty Images One isn't exactly a surprise, as YSL's Slime Language compilation project has been in the works for some time now. In fact, it was originally slated to be released this past Black Friday, though it would appear that Thugger's label ultimately had other plans. While we wait for a proper release date to arrive, it seems we'll be able to add Drip Season 4 to the list of upcoming 2021 albums, though little else is really known about the music to come. Knowing Gunna, however, it'll be another batch of wavy and melodic drops, the likes of which have garnered him a healthy collection of gold and platinum plaques. At this point, Gunna has proven himself to be one of the game's most consistent in his particular subgenre, so don't be surprised to see Drip Season 4 mark another strong release for the rapper. There are even some who cherish the series as Gunna's best work thus far, so hopefully, this fourth installment will be another charm. Are you looking forward to catching what the YSL melodist has to offer in 2021? In the meantime, be sure to catch up on our recent digital cover story with Gunna right here. View the full article
  6. In a few days, Kamala Harris will enter the White House as the first Woman of Color to ever hold the position of Vice President. In a year where anti-Black racism has been highlighted, exposed, and called out, it's a historical move that hopefully leads the way for other women to be elected into top political offices. Vogue's cover of Kamala Harris was meant to celebrate the groundbreaking victory but instead, it was received with backlash. People found the cover to be extremely underwhelming, especially due to Harris' casual fit. Vogue responded to the criticism, saying, "It was absolutely not our intention to in any way diminish the importance of the Vice President-elect's incredible victory." Wintour elaborated on the comments, revealing the creative team behind the shoot believe the casual look was more fitting for the times. "When the two images arrived at Vogue, all of us felt very, very strongly that the less formal portrait of the Vice President-elect really reflected the moment that we were living in," she said in the statement. "We are in the midst...of the most appalling pandemic that is taking lives by the minute, and we felt to reflect this tragic moment in global history, a much less formal picture, something that was very, very accessible, and approachable, and really reflected the hallmark of the Biden-Harris campaign..." 7. Miya Ponsetto, also known as "SoHo Karen," allegedly damaged a vacant NYC apartment before her notorious hotel incident. She accused the 14-year-old son of jazz trumpeter Keyon Harrold of stealing her phone. When SoHo Karen was charged Saturday in her attack of Keyon Harrold Jr. at the Arlo Hotel, prosecutors briefly detailed another incident from earlier that day in which she allegedly damaged an apartment door. Ponsetto allegedly got into the building by using a fire extinguisher she found to destroy the doorknob. A tenant of the building confronted her, and Ponsetto claimed she rented the vacant unit through Airbnb and locked her keys inside. According to TMZ, Airbnb isn’t allowed to operate in the apartment building, and Miya never contacted management about renting it. Ponsetto allegedly stayed for several hours, did damage to the curtains, left mail scattered on the floor, and dirtied up the bathroom. Police were contacted, but when they arrived, they could not access the vacant apartment because the door was so badly damaged it wouldn't open. Ponsetto was long gone at this point. A police report was filed, and Ponsetto is currently under investigation for criminal mischief with at least $250 in damages. Astrid Stawiarz/Getty Images -- Deloreans parked outside the Arlo Hotel in New York City Because of the Arlo hotel altercation, Ponsetto was arrested and charged with attempted assault, attempted robbery, grand larceny, and endangering the welfare of a child. In California, Ponsetto has an outstanding DUI case in Ventura County from October. She's also due in court at the end of January following her arrest for being drunk in public at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills in February 2020. With an extensive rap sheet, she may soon be adding trespassing to the list soon. [via] View the full article
  8. Either Joyner Lucas just got gifted a new tank from Kanye West, or he bought one himself because the Massachusetts-based rapper is flexing with his latest vehicle pick-up: the same Ukrainian SHERP ATV that Kanye has generously been giving to his peers. The last year has been riddled with headlines about Kanye West -- most recently about his rumored separation from Kim Kardashian West. The music icon also ran for President in a self-serving and highly-controversial move that was publicized across most news outlets. One thing that flew under the radar was Kanye's apparent generosity to those around him, handing out tank-looking vehicles to his best friends, including 2 Chainz, Chris Brown, Playboi Carti, and more. Apparently, Joyner Lucas also received one. "How I’m pulling up to get the [key] to the city tomorrow," wrote Joyner on Instagram, posing in front of his new SHERP ATV. He doesn't specify whether or not this was a gift from Kanye. This isn't the first time that Joyner has taken pictures with the tank though. He previously posted about it a few weeks ago, since deleting the picture. Paras Griffin/Getty Images Considering the fact that Kanye is handing these out to just about everybody, it's very possible that this is courtesy of the Chicago native. Do you think Kanye and Joyner have something on the way? They previously haven't had a working relationship, but this could be a positive sign toward something in that realm. View the full article
  9. Will.i.am and the Black Eyed Peas are no strangers to standing up in the name of justice, as they previously did on their beloved single "Where Is The Love" all those years ago. And while the Peas aren't as active a presence as they once were, will.i.am has come through to speak on some of the issues that have been plaguing society -- though in a refreshing turn, he does his best to imbue the track with a dose of optimism. "Statistically they say I'll be in the penitentiary," he sings. "So I'ma get on that college track and go to an Ivy League." He proceeds to give further hope to the youth as he redefines the American Dream, following the inspiration lead Nas sparked on "I Can't," albeit in a significantly more pop-friendly package. Of course, some will likely write Will's latest off as overtly saccharine, though it's likely they're not the target audience to begin with. It's clear that his lyrics on the benefit of pursuing higher education and the opportunities such pursuits open up are meant to inspire, and anyone who walks away feeling motivated should be counted as a victory. Check it out for yourself now, and sound off if you're vibing with will.i.am's uplifting message to young people of all walks ot life. 10. The attack on Capitol last week was the last straw for many. The individuals claiming to be "patriots" stormed the Congressional building where things were stolen and a group of individuals plotted an assault on Nancy Pelosi and the hanging of Pence. Inevitably, they weren't patriotic at all as they fed into the "stop the steal" campaign to prevent Biden's win from being certified. CNN, of course, has continued to call out Trump's shenanigans over the course of his term but Don Lemon seemingly reached a boiling point last night. As law enforcement officials continue to crack down on the Trump supporters that raided Capitol, Jacob Chansley, who infamously rocked the viking helmet during the riot, has apparently refused to eat. The prison's lack of "organic food" has apparently kept Chansley from eating which has apparently been fixed since. Along with a Trump campaign rep calling the outgoing president "the most masculine person to ever hold the White House," Don Lemon was livid at the level of sensitivity the right has shown in the past week. "Snowflakes. Cowards. The president's legacy will be not the most masculine president but the biggest loser we've ever had as president. Maybe that should've been the name of his show instead of The Apprentice. The Biggest Loser," Lemon said. Check out the clip below. View the full article

  13. Lil Uzi Vert went from being stymied by his label, an issue that prevented him from releasing new music during a time when his popularity was at an "XO Tour Life"-driven high. Last year, however, the floodgates opened in a major way, with Uzi releasing Eternal Atake, Lil Uzi Vert Vs The World 2, and the Future-assisted Pluto x Baby Pluto. Now, Uzi has shown that he's ready, willing, and able to keep the momentum rolling with even more new music in 2021, taking to Instagram to showcase what he's been cooking up in the studio. Gary Miller/Getty Images As he tends to do, Uzi shared a snippet of an upcoming track on Instagram Live, though the sound quality admittedly leaves a lot to be desired. Still, it's evident that Lil Uzi Vert has been feeling lively in the booth, as this untitled banger seems to be driven by uninhibited energy. From the sound of it, the beat also features a slightly melancholic piano loop, as well as the repeated refrain of "SUS, REAL, HA." On that note, what he's talking about remains as of yet unclear -- though don't be surprised to see him elaborating when the full drop lands. Speaking of which, it seems likely that Lil Uzi Vert will be releasing a new project at some point this year -- a likely conclusion given how generous he has been with these infinite snippets. Check out the latest one below, as captured by Akademiks, and sound off if you're interested in hearing another new album from Uzi this year. View the full article
  14. Astoria, New York's own NO1-NOAH has officially slid through to deliver his first new single of the year, the smooth and atmospheric "Ridin For My Love." The recent addition to Summer Walker's Ghetto Earth record imprint has once again showcased what he's all about with this one, a track that wastes little time in establishing a wistful tone before the vocals even kick in. "Make two days feel like a week," he sings, in his opening lines. "Make a whole week feel like a year / told her she could leave but she still here / said she stayed around to make things clear." The plot proceeds to thicken as an old flame enters the picture with some unexpected news, forcing NO1 to grapple with the consequences of his actions. "Old thing calling me and telling me she holding one, I know that she want to keep it, she know that's the golden one." It's a complicated scenario, though it does have the added benefit of bringing NOAH to interesting and honest creative places. Check it out for yourself now, and be sure to keep an eye out for the Ghetto Earth signee's upcoming project. 15. French Montana is by far a better A&R than he is a rapper these days. His ability to bring together collaborators for massive hit records remains one of his strongest suits. Coke Boys 5 was yet another showcasing of his innate ability to create a hit record. Stacked with nearly two songs, he enlisted new and old collaborators to bring the latest installment in the Coke Boys series. French Montana slid through with a brand new set of visuals off of the project. This time, it's for the record "Hot Boy Bling" ft. Jack Harlow and Lil Durk. French Montana and Jack Harlow connect with obscure high-fashion drip in what appears to be a desert-like setting. Unfortunately, Lil Durk didn't appear to make the video shoot so they tried to recreate the magic with a greenscreen. Check it out above. View the full article
  16. The release of Rowdy Rebel in 2020 was one of the few bits of news to come out of the world of hip-hop throughout the year. While he's out now, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Bobby Shmurda who took a higher sentence in order for Rowdy to receive less time. Unfortunately, the several opportunities Shmurda had to be released haven't been successful. Still, his mother has high hopes that she'll be able to hug her son in the near future. Leslie Pollard hit the 'Gram with a photo of her son as well as an update on his release. "My #MCM….. I am counting down just wishing we could run straight to February right quick,” she captioned the pic. “The come back wil be Epic!!! I can’t wait to hug my child it had been almost a year anxiety is getting the best of me.” A published report from the New York Times earlier this year revealed that he'll be eigible for conditional release as of February 23rd. This arrives after initially being denied parole back in September. Since then, his exceptional behavior hasn't gone unnoticed as he'll likely be able to be released, given no other incidents occur in prison. If released, he'll be able to serve the remained of his sentence on parole. The streets are awaiting Bobby's return, especially with Rowdy Rebel also out. In a recent documentary with Karen Civil TV, Rowdy Rebel reflected on the wave that emerged as he and Bobby Shmurda took off. Now that a possibility release looms, we're excited for their respective returns to the rap game. View the full article
  17. It's no secret that many of the game's most beloved rappers have gone through their fair share of traumatic events, many of which stem from a lifestyle on the streets. It isn't uncommon to see friends killed at a young age as a result of the lifestyle, be it by police or rival gangs. Either way, violence is often introduced early on, having a profound impact on mental health and development. Today, 2 Chainz took a moment to reflect on the dangers of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, revealing that he actively suffers from the lingering effects. Christopher Polk/Getty Images "Most Black men from the streets suffer from PTSD, I’m speaking from experience," he captions, a sad reality that many young Black men are forced to contend with. It's not the first time an emcee has raised awareness on this subject, with Jim Jones having previously claimed that being a rapper is more dangerous than being a soldier. Royce Da 5'9" has also gone a long way in establishing an open discourse on mental health in the Black community, having launched the Ryan Montgomery Foundation to further assist communities of color. While 2 Chainz's message is on the brief side, perhaps he'll consider opening up further about his own experiences in future records. Given his status as a respected OG, it's likely that Tity Boi's words would carry significant weight, especially to those young Black men suffering from PTSD from a lifestyle in the streets. Check out his message below, and show some love to all the rappers who continue to struggle with the lingering results of their Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. View the full article

Creating a local buzz, COTIS has wowed his community with songs like "Phone Light Up", "Reckless", and "Function", coming through with a stellar 2020 project in RECKLESS. He's remained relatively under the radar but, with the right plan and preparation, this could be his year. COTIS is starting off 2021 strong with his latest release, a single titled "Not Around". The track makes use of heavy sampling for a dance-styled hook, complemented by COTIS' party-laced rhymes about heartbreak, over-indulgence, and more. If you're feeling the new record, be sure to check out his RECKLESS project, which truly showcases COTIS' talent, potential, and knowledge of how to create a solid pop-rap song. 19. Somehow, Celina Powell is still somewhat relevant in 2021. This week, she went viral after her alleged text message exchange with Drake resurfaced, showing how the global superstar curved her. On TikTok, Celina has been enjoying the increased traffic, making other wild claims that are very likely false, including these ones about Offset. A few years ago, Celina Powell claimed to have gotten pregnant by Offset. The claims were proven false after legal action was taken by the Migos rapper, but the allegations nearly destroyed Offset's marriage to Cardi B. After Celina claimed that the rapper offered her $50,000 to get an abortion, showing the cease and desist letter that was sent to her and also claiming that Eminem, Gucci Mane, and others have asked her to get abortions, Cardi actually stepped in to clap back against the Black Widow. "You must be new on social media," she said to somebody who questioned why she took back her husband after this scandal. "Here let me take you way back," she added, sharing headlines about how Celina lied about everything. Celina continued to troll, writing "I miss you" under Cardi's tweet. "First drake and now cardi b lmao I’m having a great day," she later tweeted. "They both hate me. I love them both tho." At least to start off the year, Celina Powell is still a thing. 20. It's Raekwon's birthday today, and the legendary Wu-Tang lyricist has officially entered his fifty-first year as one of the greatest lyricists hip-hop has ever seen. Case in point, he managed to do what was long believed to be impossible -- which is to say, delivering a classic sequel to a classic album, as he did with the release of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 in 2009. And while the album holds plenty of excellent tunes to revisit in honor of Rae's big day, none are more memorable than "Gihad," featuring Ghostface Killah and production from Necro. Largely known for his depraved brand of underground death rap, Necro (an underrated producer that deserves more praise in that regard) blesses Ghost and Rae with a haunting instrumental, which ultimately took their imaginations to some strange and wonderful places. In Rae's opening verse, his mastery of slang is on full display as he spits lines like "And bloodhounds is hating, they knowing how the kid get down / silent shotties with grenades, I'm waiting." Following Rae's opening verse, Ghostface comes through with one of his wildest tales yet. Images are rendered with vivid precision as he reflects on the moment he found himself busted in the middle of an adulterous affair -- one that found him making a cuckhold out of his "little mans." And though said little man opts to get tested, Ghost ultimately wastes little time in asserting his domination, turning the unfortunate situation into a full-blown teachable moment. 21. Deyjah Harris, T.I.'s daughter, took to Twitter Monday night, suggesting her longtime friend, Reginae Carter, "deserves" better. Deyjah and Reginae have known each other since childhood, so it makes sense that Deyjah may know what's best for her close friend. Many believe that Deyjah is referring to Reginae's relationship with YFN Lucci, or the constant down talk on her name on social media. Reginae Carter and YFN Lucci have been linked since early 2018 and have been off and on since then. Last year, the two broke up when Reginae caught her boyfriend and a few other women at the infamous Cucumber Challenge Party. "I don't care if she's shaking it to your music. It's a respect thing," she said about the event. "Maybe that's just not me. Maybe that's just not my crowd. But I will never be cool with no man going to no party with no hecka naked girls shoving cucumbers anywhere." YFN Lucci recounted the event in April 2020 and said he didn't regret the party. He continued to defend his actions in December of the same year. Paras Griffin/Getty Images "I understand where they come from when they say I shouldn't have commented on the sh*t, or I shouldn't have been at the party, but I'm just hosting the party," he said to DJ Vlad about the party. "I'm just here; I ain't goddamn putting no cucumber in no girl mouth and sh*t." The couple has been seen on good terms recently. The Atlanta rapper threw Reginae a 90s-2000s themed party for her 22nd birthday, which she publicly thanked him for, calling him her "boyfriend." But people can't seem to ignore that YFN Lucci's affection may not equate to Reginae's. In a recent interview with Angela Yee, she asked the 29-year-old if he thinks Lil Wayne's daughter is the one. Lucci laughed and said, "We cool, man. Next subject, what's up." Many fans were embarrassed for Reginae, suggesting that she shouldn't waste her time on someone who can't publicly say how he feels about his partner. Reginae clearly knows their relationship isn't completely healthy as she joked that things may be a little toxic in a recent TikTok video. Prince Williams/Getty Images What's next for the couple? 22. The rumors insinuating that Kanye West and Jeffree Star had been hooking up have been debunked by multiple sources, including Jeffree himself, but the speculation was enough to have Kim Kardashian, Kanye's wife, feeling "humiliated" and "embarrassed" according to The Sun. Jeffree Star has responded to the rumors by claiming that's he's never even hung out with Kanye, let alone gotten intimate with the legendary artist. Ava Louise, the TikTok influencer who spread the rumors, shot back and claimed that she was lying the entire time, profiting off the situation and reportedly receiving a cease and desist letter from Kris Jenner. Jason Koerner/Getty Images With everything that has happened in the last few weeks, including the rumors that Kanye and Kim are headed towards a divorce, Kim is seemingly "humiliated" about it all. 23. Amidst all of the chaos transpiring within the United States, including but not exclusive to the January 6th storming of the Capitol building, many rappers have opted to share their thoughts on the political climate. And with disturbing new situations continuing to emerge at a rapid-fire pace, it's important to remember some of the tragedies that continue to resonate on a cultural level. For many, the unjust death of Breonna Taylor, murdered by police while sleeping in her own bed, remains particularly haunting. Thaddaeus McAdams/GettyImages Today, Cam'ron took a moment to remind his followers of Breonna Taylor's memory, drawing a comparison between her death and that of Ashli Babbitt, who was fatally shot while attempting to storm the Captiol building. "Don't ask me to have sympathy for a woman who was shot invading the Capitol when you have no sympathy for a woman shot sleeping in her bed," writes Killa Cam, making it clear that he has not forgotten that Taylor has yet to receive due justice. At this point, it's clear that the divide within the United States is still widening, and will likely continue to do so for some time. Though President-elect Joe Biden has pledged to fight for unity, it's unlikely that concrete ground will be gained unless people of color begin to receive fair treatment from law enforcement. The hip-hop community has not forgotten the seemingly endless list of trangressions, nor will they -- take Cam'ron's latest statement as an example. Rest in peace to Breonna Taylor. 24. President Donald Trump will possibly be impeached for the second time, forcing his immediate removal and preventing him from ever running for political office again. Needless to say, his final two weeks as the President have been eventful. As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi continues to push for Trump's impeachment, the President made a statement on the matter on the White House South Lawn on Tuesday morning. "On the impeachment, it’s really a continuation of the greatest witch hunt in the history of politics," said Trump. "It’s ridiculous, it’s absolutely ridiculous. This impeachment is causing tremendous anger, and you’re doing it and it’s really a terrible thing that they’re doing. For Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to continue on this path, I think it’s causing tremendous danger to our country, and it’s causing tremendous anger. I want no violence." Drew Angerer/Getty Images As reported by CNN, Trump did not publicly take responsibility for inciting the riots at the Capitol building, which resulted in at least four deaths. "We want no violence, never violence, we want absolutely no violence," he said when prompted. The House is moving forward today with talks about whether to invoke the 25th Amendment, but it's very likely that Trump will be impeached by the end of Wednesday. 25. It goes without saying that many have been critical of the United States government's handling of recreational marijuana, which has only been legalized in fifteen states. Now, it would appear that New York is looking to join the list, as confirmed by Governor Andrew Cuomo during a recent press conference. As he explains, the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on the economy will likely play a role in ensuring that recreational weed is indeed legalized, as the funds gained would assist in restoring the financial balance. Justin Sullivan/Getty Images "We will legalize adult-use recreational cannabis, joining 15 states that have already done so," Gov. Cuomo explained. "This will raise revenue and end the failed prohibition of this product that has left so many communities of color over-policed and over-incarcerated. Those, my friends, are the immediate issues for our focus: crushing COVID and the short-term economic consequences for our state." While there is no set date as to when he plans to follow-through with the legalization, Cuomo clearly intends to enact the new policies before the end of the year. Judging from his language used and stances taken throughout the speech, it's evident that Cuomo is no fan of the current model, and we can only hope that these future implementations will have a positive impact on people of color, many of whom have found themselves unfairly incarcerated over marijuana-related offenses. For those interested in hearing more from Cuomo and his goals for New York in 2021, consider checking out his Outlines Agenda speech below.
