No, unfortunatly I am not a musician, unless you count the year of piano I took when I was 9 or 10. No I guess that wouldn't count :(, but fortunatly as a kid growing up through the 70's and 80's living in this wonderful melting pot of a city I learned to appreciate all types of music. I have to give thanks to the grandparents for the appreciation for jazz though. B) I will be hipping some of my musician friends to the forum I think they would enjoy it.

  18. "Jungle Love" is a song from The Time's third album, Ice Cream Castle. The track was one of the first songs recorded for the album, being cut in late March 1983 during Prince's 1999 tour. "Jungle Love" was also one of the first The Time tracks to involve other members of the band in the creation of the song. Morris Day and Jesse Johnson both contributed to writing the song. Day provided lead vocals and Johnson played guitar on the recording. Prince played all the other instruments. The song is one of The Time's signature numbers and is played at every concert to this day. Live versions of the song have been released on two DVDs, including one of the band performing the song on Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Via: VideoSift
  19. "Billie Jean" is a 1983 hit single from Michael Jackson's Thriller album. It is often viewed as the song that triggered his success. A number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, the song was also the number-one R&B single for nine weeks in the United States and is widely acknowledged as one of Michael Jackson's most critically acclaimed songs. It was voted best single of the year in The Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics' poll, and received two Grammy Awards in 1984 in categories: Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best New Rhythm & Blues Song. It was nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, along with "Beat It", at the Grammy Awards of 1984. Michael Jackson undertook the composition of "Billie Jean" quite personally, drawing upon actual circumstances. In about 1981, during a Jacksons tour, a woman known later to be a stalker had accused Jackson of not claiming the paternity of one of her fraternal twins. She went so far as to call herself "Billie Jean Jackson", and to claim she was married to the singer. The woman was later sent to a mental hospital. From Wikipedia Moonwalk II Origins of the Moonwalk

    Prince

"When Doves Cry" is a 1984 song by Prince, and according to Billboard magazine, it was the top-selling single of the year. It was the sixth track and lead single from his album Purple Rain. The track went to number one for five weeks in the U.S. and other countries in July, 1984. It kept the other big hit of that summer, Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark", from reaching the top spot. It was voted as the best single of the year in The Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics poll. The song was also notable for being extremely popular in both White American and African American communities in the United States. Prince wrote and composed "When Doves Cry" after all the other tracks on Purple Rain were complete. In addition to vocals, he also played all instruments on the track. The song's texture is remarkably stark - there is no bass line at all, which is very unusual for a dance song. The song features an intro of a guitar solo and drum machine, followed by a looped guttural vocal by Prince. The song is very emotional and includes semi-autobiographical lyrics sometimes in a scream. After the lyrics, there is another, much longer guitar solo and a synthesizer solo. The song ends on a classical music-inspired keyboard piece backed by another synthesizer solo. From Wikipedia View this on LiveDigital
  21. This was featured in the 1985 movie The Breakfast Club. Directed by John Hughes, it featured many members of the "Brat Pack," including Ally Sheedy, Molly Ringwald, and Judd Nelson. This was written by Steve Chiff along with Keith Forsey, who also wrote "Shakedown" for Beverly Hills Cop II and the title song to Flashdance... What a Feeling. This was originally offered to Billy Idol and then to Bryan Ferry (from Roxy Music) to perform, but both declined. Forsey was a big fan of Simple Minds, so he tried to get them to perform the song, which they did at the insistence of their record company. From Songfacts View this on LiveDigital

The track also had modest showings on both the Adult Contemporary and R&B charts. Cover of the U.K. 12" release of Lucky Star Cover of the U.K. 7" release of Lucky Star View this on LiveDigital
  23. "Papa Don't Preach" the second single from her third studio album True Blue (1986). It was released in summer 1986 and reached number one in the United States, Australia and the UK, where it was the eighth biggest seller of the year. The song was written by Brian Elliot with additional lyrics by Madonna. the single caused some controversy because of its somewhat taboo subject matter. It was criticized by parents and women's organizations because it seemed to glorify teenage pregnancy[1]. Madonna has always flatly denied these criticisms, stating that the song aims to illustrate the real-life experience of young girls who fall in love. The song, in a harder rock style, was covered in 2002 by Kelly Osbourne and members of Incubus for Osbourne's debut album Shut Up. Her version was released as her debut single and reached number three in the UK and Australia, and number five in Finland From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia View this on LiveDigital
  24. "Everybody Have Fun Tonight"was released as a single in 1986, reaching #2 in the Billboard Hot 100. The music video for this song was banned from some TV stations and in England out of fear that the stop-motion filming style would cause epileptic seizures. In 2004 Blender magazine and VH1 ranked it the third "most awesomely bad song ever".Wikipedia® Even though they are British, Dance Hall Days was Wang Chung's only hit in the UK. After it proved to be a bigger hit in the US and was featured in the film To Live And Die In LA, they decided to ignore the UK market and concentrate on the US. This proved an astute decision as they recorded two more American top 10 hits, "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" (#2 in 1986) and "Let's Go!" (#9 in 1987), whilst not even recording a minor chart placing in the UK.Songfacts or
  25. "Sussudio"released as a single in January 1985. The song is also the first track on Collins' third album, No Jacket Required, released in February of the same year. Both the single and the album reached number one on their respective U.S. Billboard charts.
