what's slipstreaming? :wha':

Slipstreaming a Service Pack, is the process to integrate the Service Pack into the operating system installation so that with every new installation the Operating System and Service Pack are installed at the same time.

http://www.windows-help.net/WindowsXP/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html

instead of doing it manually you can use apps like autostreamer and nlite which provide a wizard and automate the process for you so that nothing goes wrong due to human error.......you need net framework installed to use nlite

I agree! That's my son's job: Keep old dad's computer going. I don't care how HE does it.

i like to do it myself...i find it sort of fun as well as interesting and am self taught... since i began playing with the `net at about age 45 i spent that much money on sending my pc to the computer shop every time something went wrong at $60 an hour charge out that i nearly got divorced. i do it all myself now (and other peoples comps as well)...i make quite good pocketmoney out of it...the only bucks i spend at the shop now is for the odd bit of hardware.....my daughters aren`t in the least bit interested in the subject (only to surf and play games)...my wife expects me to maintain her laptop as well and is now demanding a router so that she can have broadband too!!!

You have the right approach. I will be screwed when my son moves out. He solves all my problems, installs, updates. He is getting a degree in computer crap of some sort. I am getting too forgetful to mess with it. The old dog and new trick syndrome. I keep his car running......he keeps me digitally functional. He put us in a router 4.5 yrs ago when we first got dsl. We run the crap out of these machines. :)

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
