'Give geese a chance'

Recommended Posts

paul.jpg Former Beatle Paul McCartney has written to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger urging him to sign a law banning the French delicacy foie gras in the golden state.

McCartney joins a constellation of other stars in appealing to the movie star turned politician to make California the first US state to outlaw the luxury treat made from poultry livers.

Other stars urging their former Hollywood colleague to take the plunge include film actors Martin Sheen, Alicia Silverstone, Kim Basinger, James Cromwell, Mary Tyler Moore and singer Chrissie Hynde.

At first, I was like wtf? Goose meat is banned in Cali?

But when you read on....

"There is clearly nothing humane about mechanically inducing disease in a bird by forcing a pipe down its throat and making it consume such an abnormal quantity of food that its liver expands many times its normal size.

Seems like this is a good idea to ban just fois gras... I guess regular goose meat can still be consumed... Slaughterhouses are nasty enough, but I support the fact that we shouldn't torture before slaughter...

The whole process of factory farming is inhumane and involves torture... all of which is completely UNNECASSARY!!!! ... but I guess a small price to pay for a tasty? snack...... Maybe this issue will bring about some AWARENESS.

who eats foie gras?

rich people

who are the people whining about it?

other rich people

all you have to do is say poor people like it, and it will go out of style

serve it at homeless shelters or something

(p.s. i hate geese, and am glad to hear about them getting killed--around here, they are a huge nuisance. imagine a 30 pound rat, then give it wings--voila! a goose!)

You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
