:o oooooo... perty....... who built the mounds? any info on that?

The site consists of a large oval earthwork, surrounded by a massive bank & ditch, with an entrance at NNE & a circular mound which rises from the interior of the platform & is probably an unfinished motte. The oval enclosure is most likely an earlier site, possibly a hill fort reused as a bailey by the Normans. The mound/motte is 54 x 55m diam., 12.5m high & is separated from the bailey by a ditch with a causeway at SW. The oval enclosure is 215m N-S x 167m E-W.

The creek  "american indians" do that around here..Creek Indian Mounds

those sort of sites here are associated with the ancient seats of rulership.... they're fortified mounds rather than just burial places.... there are quite a few of them ... major ones at Navan and Tara

They could all be from the same origin.... who knows... these things are so old that a lot of the history is entirely lost... so they make up a load of mumbo jumbo, further bury the truth in myths and legends.... and label those remarkable people who built these things as primitive and unintelligent.

Sweet pics umma but the one you labeled as "on the mound" strikes me as a picture of a squirrell.

When's the housewarming, Umma. Let us know in advance so we can reserve some airline tickets  Also, what is the law regarding agricultural goods if anyone decides to bring some bananas?

My day improved considerably - all of a sudden my tennis game has come alive...I demolished the competition

The competition?

Why don't you do a little write-up about it?

I didn't stay for the whole thing, I wasn't there when it started... I only really paid attention to maybe three bands. Coheed and Cambria, the Vandals, and Avenged Sevenfold. Oh... and some Atmosphere.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
