Judge allows Eminem to sue Apple

The ad featured Eminem's song Lose Yourself from the film 8 Mile

A judge in the US has allowed a copyright infringement case over an Eminem song to go ahead.

Apple ran an advertisement for its iPod digital music player which had a 10-year-old boy singing the rapper's song Lose Yourself, from the film 8 Mile.

US District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor ruled a suit by Eminem's publishers can be brought against several companies, including MTV's parent company Viacom.

The ad ran on MTV despite Apple not getting permission to use the song.

The suit, filed in Detroit, also names advertising agency TBWA/Chiat/Day.

Are those all those Apple ads where the people were singing their song while listenening to the iPod? If so, there were a few more songs than just that one - I ownder if Apple used them all w/o permission....

So you can't even sing the lyrics on TV without permission? So is American Idol asking every artist and label everytime some sings a song on the show? I know it's not used directly to sell any product, but it sells the show??? eh, I may be wrong on this one anyway - maybe it wasn't that commercial...

      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
