Paypal Deals Blow To Freenet

hankaholic writes "I was checking into the latest progress of the Freenet project when I noticed a disturbing note on their homepage: 'Paypal has frozen the account we use to accept donations over the web, they refuse to give any reason other than "use of an anonymous proxy" [...] all of the projects subscriptions have been canceled which is a significant setback. Other means of accepting donations, including E-Gold, are still active.' Paypal is sending them a check for their remaining balance. The news update on the Freenet homepage also includes contact information for some people at Paypal."

Paypal took 5 days to pay a seller because my credit card was going to expire in 3 weeks. I was paying out of my checking account which had plenty money and have had that account for 30 yrs. I avoid using paypal anymore. Bunch of shitheads.

I never did like Paypal or Ebay either for that matter.

A few years ago my Ebay account was hacked and my credit card information was stolen :(

Thieves tried to charge over $5,000 worth of stuff from my account. Luckily my bank spotted this early and knew that it was a fraud.

Ebay did little to help resolve the issue about my account. That damn service also had a nasty habbit of canceling my auctions a lot and not giving me even a clear reason why.

Ebay and Paypal suck

You see, barring a few rare occasions, I believe the security issues, and the other bullshit people commonly express are USER created, or just plain malicious targeting of a specific individual (installed Trojan, oops, I got your password/card number/whatever). And of course, just bad business dealings with other people.

I've been using paypal to pay for eBay auctions and many other things for quite some time.

I've never once had a problem.

I don't deny your stories, i'm just saying I don't have any bad experiences to rant about as far as PayPal and eBay.

Shall we add them to the list, Redneck?

No Dude, don't add them to the list. You and I will soon be doing business with no one.:lol: I admire a man that votes his conscience with his money. :good job: I avoid them but still use them some. Feel free to use them all you want. :)

If I could just do something about that liberal streak you have........

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
