Why Doesn't Evolution Get Rid of Ugly People?

Does anyone see the flawed logic in this?

Why isn’t everyone beautiful, smart and healthy? Or, in a less-polite formulation, why haven’t ugly, stupid, unhealthy people been bred out of the population—ugly people because no one will have them as mates, meaning they don’t get the chance to pass their ugliness to the next generation; stupid people because they’re outgunned in the race to financial success (that is, acquiring resources needed to survive and reproduce); unhealthy people because they die before they get a chance to reproduce?

This evolutionary narrowing doesn't happen even though for the most part those 3 groups do try to find other members of the group.

It fails for a number of reasons:

- a stupid person can be beautiful, enhancing their worth as a trophy spouse to the person with coin

- when the groupings are all coming down, Leftover Leroy looks at Loretta and says "I got the extended warranty on this TV", hot carnal action follows

- unhealthy children often grow out of it, just as bad health can come on due to lifestyle later in life; neither example would necessarily be taken into consideration when it was time to pay the "do's"

You are all over complicating it. The answer can be found in one word: beer.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
