I had a Quadrophonic 8-track in my 1972 Monte Carlo...I believe the last one I bought was Santana's Caravanserai album.

What was the last 8-track tape you ever bought?

I don't believe I ever bought one. Instead I bought 2 Akai 7" reel to reel decks, an Akai 8 track tape recorder, and a variety of turntables, cassette recorders (one of them was a Pioneer CT-F9191 which was the top of the line model when I bought it in 1973 and I still use it today) and so forth. I made copies of my friends albums, tapes and stuff so I had plenty of tunes and they all had backup copies.

When I tell you I am a pirate, I mean I have been a pirate for 35 yrs and counting.

I never owned one either. My brother had one, but but the time I first approached "my friends at Columbia House" to purchase my first selections for a hard-earned penny, cassette were the standard.

This might amuse some of you. Two of my seven selections were Jacko tapes.

How cool is this? I had an 8-track RECORDER...built into the Sears stereo my folks bought probably sometime around 1974. I remember making a homemade tape of In Through The Out Door that we listened to in my mothers '79 Ford Granada, which had a built-in 8 track player.

And some one gave me some 8-track tapes--I know I never bought any, but I had Ted Nugent Double Live Gonzo and I think some Steve Miller Band and Nazareth's Hair Of The Dog.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
