aha, right, so stuff like pelican, isis, cult of luna etc.. there are so many different names banded about for that set of bands.

Basically, the thesis of the Times article, was that the smart music was coming out of modern Metal

it is, some of the most technically challenging music of any genre is in metal, extreme grindcore/death metal/tech metal is just jaw dropping..

bands like behold...the arctopus, necrophagist, meshuggah, executive distraction tasks, are playing some of the most advanced music ever.
