Most of them are not true but the most known invention of them all, telephone, was invented by Bell. He was scotish.

Now, if you count immigrants then yes, almost all inventions were american or canadian. Those countries were immigrant paradise during the past century.

eg. I will never consider Einstein american.

BTW sports were ALL invented by ancient cultures. Changes have been made during the years but the philosophy of each game comes from older games so I don't consider basketball, for instance, was invented by canadians. Check out a stamp issued by the greek post that features an old wall painting (left) that could be considered basketball. It may not be a plastic ball but the philosophy of putting a ball in a hoop was there. I know of a much better ancient basketball pic but can't find it...

He was living in Canada at the time. Cape Breton to be exact, and I do believe he was a Canadian citizen at the time.

Going by your reasoning, someone that is an immigrant and has taken up citizenship of a country is still not a citizen. That would also mean that the lady that is going to be our next governor general , who was a Hatian refugee, is not a citizen of Canada. PS finally I agree with our countries choice of governor general, as she represents all that has made this country what it is.

PS, I believe the reference was to ice hockey, not field hockey. Basket ball I was always a bit dubious about, as if you give folks a ball anywhere, they will generally try and hit something with it. We may have made it popular, but I highly doubt it was invented here.

LOL, I always considered him to be of Scottish heritage. Although the main thing I considered him to be was brilliant, and a great help to humanity, especially in the aid he did to help those with the same afflication as his wife. To be honest, although Im proud of my country, the main thing Im concerned with about inventors is, did they invent something to help humanity? The bugger that invented the zipper should have been shot, as any drunk that has caught his pecker in his zipper can tell you. I just bet that never happened with a button fly.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
