Black Smoke at Vatican

Just checked in and saw this posting. It was me who edited it because it read no Pope chosen. It needed updating. I beliieve my name is on the initial post as having edited the subtitle. That's what a mod does. The sub-title had been inaccurate since the previous day, so I added, I believe, "and the Rat emerges" as the updated subtitle. Many major newspapers, such as the one Dude posted a pic of, used some sort of Rat or Ratzi headline because this new Pope has some skeletons in the closet, in addition to being quite a hardliner. So I fail to see how that subtitle could have been too radical.

Ratzi predicts short reign

Pope Benedict XVI predicted a "short reign" in comments to cardinals just after his election, and his brother said Wednesday he was worried about the stress the job would put on the 78-year-old pontiff.

Joseph Ratzinger has had ailments in the past, including a 1991 hemorrhagic stroke, that raise questions about how long his papacy will last — and whether the world will watch another pope slowly succumb to age and ailments on a very public stage. Benedict was the oldest pontiff elected in 275 years.

As for the short reign... they elected a 78 year old. They didn't want a long reign. :D

Benedict Says He Prayed Not to Be Elected

By DANIELA PETROFF, Associated Press Writer

VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict XVI said Monday he had viewed the idea of being elected pope as a "guillotine," and he prayed to God during the recent conclave to be spared selection but "evidently this time He didn't listen to me."

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
