"The film is important, not because it's about Hanson -- because who cares, we're just one more band -- but because there are so many similar stories, like what happened to Fiona Apple and Wilco. It's sort of the norm." The group hopes its story will educate the next generation of potential industry leaders. "We went to colleges all over the country to screen [the movie] and did lectures to spread the word about all the changes that are going on right now," Zac says. "There are a lot of new avenues, and people really need to be involved in deciding where this industry goes and how music is sold over the next 10 years."

Sibling pop/rock trio Hanson takes viewers behind the scenes of its three-year struggled with Island/Def Jam while recording its 2004 album "Underneath" on the new documentary "Strong Enough To Break." The film premiered Oct. 22 at the Hollywood Film Festival. In "Strong Enough," brothers Taylor, Isaac and Zac Hanson face a changing industry and major-label executives and producers whose only interest is radio-friendly tracks. Ultimately, Hanson left Island/Def Jam and independently released "Underneath," which debuted at No. 1 on the Top Independent Albums chart. BURBANK, Calif. Oct 27, 2006 (AP)— Snoop Dogg was arrested on suspicion of illegal drug and gun possession, police said. The rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, was arrested at 3:45 p.m. Thursday at Bob Hope Airport, police said. Snoop Dogg posted $35,000 bail and was scheduled to appear in court Dec. 12. LONDON (MarketWatch) -- EMI Music Chairman and Chief Executive Alain Levy Friday told an audience at the London Business School that the CD is dead, saying music companies will no longer be able to sell CDs without offering "value-added" material. "The CD as it is right now is dead," Levy said, adding that 60% of consumers put CDs into home computers in order to transfer material to digital music players. But there remains a place for physical media, Levy said. "You're not going to offer your mother-in-law iTunes downloads for Christmas," he said. "But we have to be much more innovative in the way we sell physical content." Record companies will need to make CDs more attractive to the consumer, he said. "By the beginning of next year, none of our content will come without any additional material," Levy said. I'm in favor of a meritocracy - people should be rewarded for doing good.

Sounds like a classy guy. I agree that in the best of all worlds, you shouldn't have to wear political issues on your sleeve. But politics in this country has become so dirty, most of us don't really care to vote any more - but we know the consequences if we don't, so we do. It comes down to this - the Republicans will do anything they can to stay in power including stopping people from voting, or screwing with the voting machines; and on almost any political position, if they say it's black, you can bet it's white. If you disagree with them, your weak and a communist. It's pathetic and socially, poltically and economically in the dark ages.

Fair enough. Frankly, I support the issue and find it hard hitting.

If he was phony about it, I might agree with you. However, he's entitled to express his views, whether he is sick or not - and since the issue affects him personally, I see no reason why he shouldn't.

Warner Music Group has cut a deal with Internet video service Brightcove to be able to distribute its video content catalog on its own Web sites--and profit from it. In the partnership, announced Thursday, Warner Music Group will use Brightcove's software to embed Web-based video players in the sites for its labels--which include Sire, Atlantic and Elektra--as well as its individual artists. Visitors to the sites will be able to view on-demand music videos and related footage like artist interviews and performances in a free, ad-supported form. Additionally, Web media enthusiasts will be able to embed the content into their blogs, Web sites or profiles on social-networking services like MySpace.com. Read more
