  2. Lou Reed has an eye on the future - he takes a look at electronic developments and at contemporary writers: Lou Reed, rock pioneer/AFTER INFLUENCING BANDS FOR DECADES, HIS EYES ARE ON THE FUTURE Lou Reed isn't one to focus on the past. The music he created in the 1960s and '70s remains a touchstone for the hippest rock bands. But Reed, who will perform Tuesday at the Fox Theatre in Redwood City, would rather talk about his new Moog Voyager synthesizer -- ``the Stradivarius of electronics,'' he calls it -- and the possibilities of today. ``There couldn't be a better time to be a musician than right now with all these astonishing instruments available,'' says Reed, 64. ``I mean, someone's gonna put this stuff together in a different way, somebody really smart, and just bust it open.'' 6. Haggard fired for "sexually immoral conduct" Ted Haggard, the beleaguered pastor of a Colorado Springs evangelical church who had denied having sex with a male prostitute, has been fired by an oversight board, which found him guilty of "sexually immoral conduct." The findings stand in stark contrast to the immensely popular public image of the New Life Church's founding pastor. A rising star, Haggard, 50, was at times a consultant to the White House, the author of several books, and until he stepped down this week, president of the National Association of Evangelicals, which represents more than 30 million worshippers. The board that made the decision, called the "Overseer Board of New Life Church," said in a prepared statement Saturday afternoon: "Our investigation and Pastor Haggard's public statements have proven without a doubt that he has committed sexually immoral conduct." Citing the bylaws of the mega-church Haggard started 26 years ago in his home, the overseers said his conduct required them to remove him from his job. Source: Denver Post

  10. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Rev. Ted Haggard admitted Friday he bought methamphetamine and received a massage from a male prostitute. But the influential Christian evangelist insisted he threw the drugs away and never had sex with the man. Haggard, who as president of the National Association of Evangelicals wielded influence on Capitol Hill and condemned both gay marriage and homosexuality, resigned on Thursday after a Denver man named Mike Jones claimed that he had many drug-fueled trysts with Haggard. On Friday, Haggard said that he received a massage from Jones after being referred to him by a Denver hotel, and that he bought meth for himself from the man. But Haggard said he never had sex with Jones. And as for the drugs, "I was tempted, but I never used it," the 50-year-old Haggard told reporters from his vehicle while leaving his home with his wife and three of his five children.
