  2. I once owned a 56 strat with grover tuning pegs :) Repair shop stole original pickups. Fretborn was worn, and new job was hacked. I can get it back, but it would be tough to get it back in to shape

  6. It's been a while since Modest Mouse last graced a Los Angeles stage, and the crowd was noticeably antsy at Avalon last night, the venue the band chose to kick off its long-awaited return to touring. But that wasn't the only reason anticipation was running high. As the lights went down, audience members craned their necks up to take a peek at the band's newest (and oldest) member: former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, whose trademark playing style promised to be a good fit with the band's jagged guitar-led melodies. The combination did not disappoint, and as Modest Mouse launched into the warm-up show, anyone who forgot was quickly reminded of what brought this indie wonder out from the underground in the first place -- spiky chords, a steady, almost militaristic beat and the strained, cracked vocals of singer Isaac Brock. 9. Listen to the song This is the age of machinery, A mechanical nightmare, The wonderful world of technology, Napalm hydrogen bombs biological warfare, This is the twentieth century, But too much aggravation Its the age of insanity, What has become of the green pleasant fields of jerusalem. Aint got no ambition, Im just disillusioned Im a twentieth century man but I dont wanna be here. My mama said she cant understand me She cant see my motivation Just give me some security, Im a paranoid schizoid product of the twentieth century. You keep all your smart modern writers Give me william shakespeare You keep all your smart modern painters Ill take rembrandt, titian, da vinci and gainsborough, Girl we gotta get out of here We gotta find a solution Im a twentieth century man but I dont want to die here. I was born in a welfare state Ruled by bureaucracy Controlled by civil servants And people dressed in grey Got no privacy got no liberty Cos the twentieth century people Took it all away from me. Dont wanna get myself shot down By some trigger happy policeman, Gotta keep a hold on my sanity Im a twentieth century man but I dont wanna die here. My mama says she cant understand me She cant see my motivation Aint got no security, Im a twentieth century man but I dont wanna be here. This is the twentieth century But too much aggravation This is the edge of insanity Im a twentieth century man but I dont wanna be here. Source: Lyric's Freak
  10. Here is a pretty good video of the Dave Matthews Band performing "Crash", probably their best know song. It's a keeper.
  11. Stereogum takes a look at the most outrageous stage meltdowns in rock. The Stones at Altamont. The Who at Woodstock. Dimebag's murder. Pete Dougherty? GC Alin? What is your nomination. Here is a sample meltdown below:
  12. Yep, it's time. The Republicans have had a dozen years to get the priorities of this country in place and they have blown it. From Katrina to Iraq, to the lack of a decent minimum living wage and reasonable health plan for all, they have fallen short. Today's Republicans are scandal plagued - they have brought shame to this country's name throughout the world. They have sold themselves out the big money corporate machine - and they don't care about every day people like you and me. Throw the bums out!
  13. A familiar paradox about leftist celebrities in the entertainment industry is that their embrace of progressivism almost never includes a wholehearted embrace of progressive taxation, i.e., the principle that the richer you get, the larger the percentage of your income you ought to pay in taxes. The latest example is U2's Bono, a committed and unusually sophisticated anti-poverty crusader who is taking surprisingly little heat for the decision by his band, U2, to relocate its music-publishing business from Ireland to the Netherlands in order to shelter its songwriting royalties from taxation.
