  1. I'm gonna take New England the NY Giants. Any bets out there? B) Photo: Yahoo Sports
  2. Caspian is an instrumental indie band from Massachusetts. Their sound reminds me of Sigur Ros - but they are clearly original. This song comes from their latest album, Four Trees. Enjoy.
  3. This web site is dedicated to country music lovers that really enjoy the older country songs. It's especially for those of us that are not as musically gifted as some, almost all of the lyrics on this site have relatively simple chords. Sample: Loretta Lynn Visit their website

  5. The UK Guardian takes a look at research being done at my alma mater: "Researchers from the University of California Los Angeles are working on a wireless communication network that will allow cars to talk to each other, simultaneously downloading information in the shape of road safety warnings, entertainment content and navigational tools. The UCLA Engineering's Network Research Lab team, led by Mario Gerla and Giovanni Pau, hit upon the idea in 2004, when peer-to-peer networking took off fuelled by applications such as BitTorrent. "We had the idea from BitTorrent, and decided to extend BitTorrent to cars under the name of CarTorrent. One of our dreams had always been to apply the technology to civilian applications," says Gerla. "Imagine you're driving to a beach resort and want to find out what the best beaches are. You could stop at a gas station and download several video clips from an internet access point, but that's not very convenient." Wireless at the wheel Gerla and his team instead propose to connect cars to one another using the wireless networking platform they're developing, which could be up and running by as early as 2012." 8. Progressive soul artist D'Angelo recorded this title cut from the album 'Brown Sugar' in 1995. Enjoy.

  10. Here's is one of their better cuts, "What A Fool Believes" (live)
  11. The Associated Press reports that "Suzanne Pleshette, the beautiful, husky-voiced film and theater star best known for her role as Bob Newhart's sardonic wife on television's long-running "The Bob Newhart Show," has died, said her attorney Robert Finkelstein. She was 70. Pleshette, who underwent chemotherapy for lung cancer in 2006, died of respiratory failure Saturday evening at her Los Angeles home, said Finkelstein, who is also a family friend." 13. Wired reports that "J.J. Abrams' creature feature Cloverfield raked in an estimated $16.7 million in its first day of release, according to Box Office Mojo. The big opening lands the film near the top of the list for one-day January box-office hauls, and puts the jitter-cam flick, which reportedly cost only $25 million to make, on track to be a monstrous moneymaker. The movie, dubbed "a monster for the MySpace generation" by the The (San Jose) Mercury News, will probably pick up steam over the long weekend on the strength of positive reviews (like ours)." Wired's reporter suggests you "wait out the bombastic soundtrack that rolls under the credits to hear the mysterious words at the end of the film." The studio did a viral marketing campaign with some fake UFO footage, which was FEATURED HERE back in August - hey, you never know Here is the trailer:
  14. Billy Cobham is one of the best drummers in the world. This song initially appeared on his solo album, Spectrum, which was released in the early 70s. Here is the original version with Tommy Bolin on guitar and Jan Hammer on keyboards. In the rock world, Tommy Bolin played with The James Gang, Deep Purple and Zephyr. In the Jazz World, he also worked with Weather Report and Jan Hammer. Check out his guitar licks on this!
  15. Here's a cut, Happiness Is Just Around the Bend, from his 1973 album, 'Closer to It'... I used to play this all the time :) - his keyboard work still holds up nicely today.
  16. I don't think its irresponsible for organizations to update their data - I think its irresponsible to print it beforehand.
  17. Mark Kozelek is a singer-songwriter-guitarist, best known for his work with the Red House Painters, and his current band, Sun Kil Moon. Here he performs one of his songs live. Mark Kozelek - Moorestown (Live) With his latest band, Sun Kil Moon, Mark Kozelek is accompanied by Tim Mooney and Anthony Koutsos on drums, and Geoff Stanfield on bass. The band is named after Korean bantamweight boxer Moon Sung-Kil. This song appears on the cd Ghosts Of The Great Highway, which was released in 2007 - I couldn't find a real video, so this will have to suffice in the meantime. His next album, 'April, will be released appropriately in April this year.
  18. It's not unusual for obituaries to be prepared for famous people in advance of their demise - but this takes the cake. It's one thing to prepare bios...but to predict a younger person's death while they are still alive and print it is irresponsible.
  19. TrusMe (aka James David Wolstencroft) is a young Manchester trip-hop artist and 'Working Nights' is his terrific debut album. As the Passion of Weiss notes in his review for the LA Weekly, "Wolstencroft builds his tracks like a hip-hop producer, stitching old funk and disco records into wobbly, dusty epics." The result is a nice soulful groove. Check out a snippet of the title track below, and if you are sufficiently intrigued, you can listen to the whole album (or purchase any of the tracks for a pittance) over at MP3Sky, or a high quality cd at Amazon. Enjoy. Working Nights Bonus: Vibrations (from Gilles Peterson' In The House)
