Jonny Greenwood's music score for "There Will Be Blood" won't be among the five Academy Award nominees for best original score. "Much of the searing music from the Radiohead guitarist had appeared elsewhere previously," said Charles Bernstein, chairman of the music branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which chooses the nominees. "The Oscar is given for the best original score -- 'original' meaning written for the picture -- and the majority of the music in 'There Will Be Blood' was not eligible because it was not written for the picture," Bernstein said Wednesday. The music industry's global trading lobby, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) says that 95% of all music downloads are illegal. IFPI says that digital music sales rose 40 per cent to $US2.9 billion ($A3.33 billion) during the past year, but says that it has failed to stop the failing cd market. I'm sure the horse and buggy industry felt the same way when the automobile was being adopted. Read More

Death Cab For Cutie guitarist and producer Chris Walla has put together his first solo effort, and the results are amiable enough. A little bit of pop, a little bit of rock, a little bit of folk -- all distinguished by good song-writing. I particularly like the cut "Everyone Needs A Home." Death Cab fans won't be disappointed, and Walla is likely to pick up some new ones. But you be the judge - you can check out Chris's work over at MTVu and see for yourself. And if you like what you hear, you can find it Here. Enjoy.

MGMT is a Brooklyn indie pop band out of Brooklyn. This catchy tune takes a satirical look at being a rock star and is from their debut album, 'Oracular Spectacular'. Time To Pretend I'm Feelin rough I'm Feelin raw I'm in the prime of my life. Let's make some music make some money find some models for wives. I'll move to Paris, shoot some heroin and fuck with the stars. You man the island and the cocaine and the elegant cars. This is our decision to live fast and die young. We've got the vision, now let's have some fun. Yeah it's overwhelming, but what else can we do? Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute? Forget about our mothers and our friends. We were fated to pretend. I'll miss the playgrounds and the animals and digging up worms. I'll miss the comfort of my mother and the weight of the world. I'll miss my sister, miss my father, miss my dog and my home. Yeah I'll miss the boredom and the freedom and the time spent alone. But there is really nothing, nothing we can do. Love must be forgotten. Life can always start up anew. The models will have children, we'll get a divorce, we'll find some more models, Everything must run its course. We'll choke on our vomit and that will be the end. We were fated to pretend. yeah yeah yeah Lyrics from SongsMeanings
