  16. The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly hesitant to include Kyle Kuzma in their trade package for Anthony Davis, but if New Orleans continues to insist that he be part of the deal, Kuzma's days as a Laker are likely numbered. Following reports that the Pelicans want the 23-year old forward to be featured in the Davis trade package, former Lakers guard Jordan Clarkson took to twitter with a message for Kuz: "start packing yo bags bro lmao." The Lakers have already made Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball and the fourth overall pick in the June 20 NBA Draft available in talks with New Orleans, according to The New York Times' Marc Stein. However, Tania Ganguli‏ and Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times reports that the deal hinges on the Lakers' willingness to part ways with Kuzma. In his second season with the Lakers, Kuz averaged 18.7 points with 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Any potential Lakers-Pelicans deal will need to involve a third team, and rumors have surfaced that the Washington Wizards or Atlanta Hawks could be a factor in negotiations. As Stein notes, "The Lakers' ability to seal a deal for Anthony Davis likely hinges on what the No. 4 pick can fetch. If the No. 4 pick can land a player to excite New Orleans, on top of Ingram and Ball, then the teams are headed for an agreement in principle before draft night next Thursday." View the full article
  17. You asked and we are happily returning with all-new episodes of our hit series How To Roll. Whenever artists come by our office to film an episode of How To Roll, they always manage to find a way to bash New York weed. Boogie wasn't down with what we provided him earlier this year and now, Lil Duval is out here bringing his own supply for us to experience the best of the best. The comedian/rapper started off our comeback episode by raving about the gas he recently picked up, referring to it as the "best of the best." Prince Williams/Getty Images "I'm smoking Lil Duval premium vibes," said the comedian, plugging his own strain. "You know I got my own weed. I don't sell weed, I sell vibes. All my weed is different types of vibes." Duval admitted that he is promoting his brand but at the same time, he believes it to truly be higher quality than anything else he's ever smoked. Fresh off the release of his new single "Black Men Don't Cheat" with Charlamagne Tha God, Duval told us that he only started burning a few years ago, noting that he was scared he'd get "too fucked up." When he started smoking weed though, he made sure to link up with some of the legends. We're talking Snoop Dogg, Devin The Dude, and more. As for who's left on his list of people to get high with, Wiz Khalifa is definitely up there. He's also waiting on Curren$y to give him a call to smoke him out. Despite his high tolerance, edibles are a no-go for Lil Duval, who says that when you take one, your entire day will be ruined. 19. There isn’t a rapper as easy to minimize in stature than Tyga. With now close to a decade under his rap-career-belt, he’s survived multiple record contracts and phases within the industry, and accrued a decent catalog for himself. None of this has necessarily translated into respect or credibility sadly; plenty of critics tend to lampoon him for being ostentatious or corny. Likewise, those who aren’t already fans of his output tend to dismiss him based on his commercial focus or his many admitted moments of media embarrassment that most rappers would be unable to return from. Yet, Tyga still perseveres, and has recently provided us with his seventh studio album, the boldly-titled Legendary. It’s an album hot on the heels of a major comeback for Tyga and hopes to put him back in position as a major player in the rap scene. Last year could have easily been the end of Tyga’s rap career to be perfectly blunt. His R&B album, Kyoto, was mostly one note and listless with a few songs accused of plagiarism from other artists. As far as the fans and listeners were concerned, most wanted to make fun of Hajime Sorayama’s erotic artwork for the record’s album cover rather than actually bother with the music inside. That he somehow managed to recover at all is almost miraculous, but sure enough, a mere few months later “Taste” became a smash hit of the summer and turned the rapper’s fortunes around immensely. While the contributions of Offset and producer D.A. Doman (who supports a bulkload of songs on Legendary) can’t go understated, credit should go to Tyga for recognizing that a lot of his fans, and perhaps the casual listener alike, simply wanted him to return to what he’d garnered appreciation for in the first-place: mid-tempo ‘ratchet’ style club records. As such, the new album Legendary contains a lot of that but, perhaps to a fault, as there is very little otherwise. Legendary recognizes that the formula of “Taste” is, not only a successful one, but what a lot of people want and expect to hear from him. In fact while longtime partner/collaborator/producer Jess Jackson has no involvement on this album, a lot of the people involved with this album are Tyga mainstays, such as the aforementioned D.A. Doman, Dupri or DJ Mustard. While this is by no means Tyga's worst album (because again, Kyoto most vividly exists), it’s the most conservative and regressive as it finds him strip-mining his catalog from the beginning of the decade-- but without the more ambitious or experimental decisions. Besides maybe the Dr. Luke assisted (and probably TisaKorean inspired) “Maykherkhum,” so much of it remains in the same mid-tempo post-ratchet sound that was pioneered by Tyga’s early successes such as “Faded” and “Rack City.” This same sort of cynicism permeates on Tyga’s behalf, with most of his rapping incredibly hushed and monotone, devoid of excess. While it’s not a common argument for people to argue that Tyga is among the best rappers in the game, he’s an accomplished technician when he’s at his most inspired and energetic. Yet, as Tyga seeks out additional hits, it appears his eccentricities take a backseat. Nevertheless Legendary isn’t without its moments of brightness, and some of those come from the various guests who have fun in Tyga’s nightlife environment. While Tyga and frequent collaborator Chris Brown sound joyless on the bouncy “Haute,” reggaeton star J Balvin sounds like he’s having the time of his life. Meanwhile after the inspired albeit weirdly-titled “Lightskinned Lil Wayne” it’s Weezy himself who helps Tyga with the load for “On Me,” and later on, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie perfectly compliments the exotic sample for “Goddamn.” The less said about the features from Blueface (disappointing) or Swae Lee (atrocious) the better. Legendary is undoubtedly a bounce back from the Tyga we found at the beginning of 2018. At the same time, there’s an unmistakable air of "playing it safe" at the expense of any extreme emotion-- whether that be satisfaction or otherwise. Nevertheless, Tyga’s proven more than a few times that counting him out entirely is a fool’s errand, and that he has the talents and the capabilities to prove doubters wrong. He also has the talent to do a little more than that however, and one hopes that next time around, the rapper makes an album that offers just a little bit more than what's tried and true. 20. Since January, there have been reports and rumors that Anthony Davis wants out of New Orleans and would like to play for the Los Angeles Lakers. A trade with the Lakers never ended up happening and now that we're in the offseason, there are even more reports surfacing of what the Pelicans would be looking for in a deal for AD. As of right now, the Lakers and the Boston Celtics are the two teams being considered the frontrunners to land the big man. It has also been reported that the Pelicans would like to include multiple teams in a deal for Davis. The team's social manager clearly finds the situation funny as they took to Twitter last night with the classic gif from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia of Charlie piecing together a conspiracy theory. If you put two and two together, you can deduce that the Twitter account is alluding to the pieces they are demanding in order to make the trade work. A fan then asked the team when they would be announcing the trade which led them to reply with a J. Cole joke. The coming weeks will be interesting as a potential Anthony Davis deal will surely reach an apex. Stay tuned for updates on the entire situation. View the full article
  21. On Thursday, BET network announced that they would be celebrating the life and legacy of the late Nipsey Hussle at the 2019 BET Awards. The rapper and visionary will receive this year's Humanitarian Award in recognition of his philanthropic efforts, activism, and overall commitment to empowering his community. In addition to his artistic work, the rapper garnered a reputation for promoting the development of underprivileged areas through financial literacy, real estate, and violence prevention, during his time on Earth. Connie Orlando, Executive Vice-President, and Head of Programming at BET, commented on the choice of recipient, saying: "as a prolific artist and leader, Nipsey Hussle was zealous about driving change for the betterment of his community, empowering and employing those in need and being an influential and highly respected leader. His passing was a tremendous loss to the entertainment industry and to the culture. We will continue to remember his advocacy and be inspired by the groundwork he set forth and his dire commitment to social change." She went on to elaborate "we are forever grateful, humbled and honored to have experienced his presence and we are invested in doing our part to ensure that the marathon will indeed continue. It is an immense honor for us to recognize him with this year’s Humanitarian Award." Ser Baffo/Getty Images As well as the award presentation, the show will include a Nipsey tribute performance by YG, John Legend, and DJ Khaled, the latter of which enlisted the rapper for his Father of Asahd track "Higher." The Awards will be hosted by Regina Hall, and will air live 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 23 on Viacom networks in the U.S.: BET, BET HER, MTV, MTV 2, MTV Classic, VH1, and Logo. View the full article

  23. Last Friday, both Future and Tyga added a project to their respective discographies. Big Future came through with the emotional EP Save Me, an enjoyable yet underdeveloped glimpse into his fractured psyche. T-Raww came through with the opposite end of the emotional spectrum, delivering Legendary, a sexually-charged romp lined with many-a summer banger. Today, the first-week sales projections have arrived, providing a deeper analysis into the current musical landscape. A landscape in which the hierarchy of power is all too often dictated by numbers on the board. As per Hits Daily Double, Future's Save Me debuted at number five, racking in between 40,000 to 45,000 in total numbers, with 3,000-4,000 coming by way of pure physical copies. Considering the relatively short-notice with which Future announced his project, Save Me fared alright; it's honestly refreshing to see a superstar rapper avoid shoehorning in a previously successful, and often months-old single. On that note, not even "Taste" could steer Tyga into the upper echelon. Strange, considering he's been on a solid run of late, delivering a new summer anthem at every apparent turn. Sadly, admiration for the booty does not translate into sales, unless you're Sir Mix-A-Lot. T-Raww's Legendary is looking to move between 21,000-24,000 units, with 2,000-3,000 coming from physical copies. As it stands, Tyga is sitting comfortably in the 18th spot, a position that feels surprising given his oft-cited comeback. Sadly, neither men could dethrone the combined forces of the Jonas Brothers, who moved a staggering 330-360k units. How do you think this changes the landscape, if at all? View the full article
  24. Kyrie Irving parted ways with his agent yesterday and it is believed that he will be joining Jay Z's Roc Nation. What's interesting about this is that Roc Nation has strong ties to Brooklyn which has many believing that Irving will end up signing with the Brooklyn Nets in free agency. The Nets have reportedly been one of the teams on Kyrie's list which just adds even more credence to the idea that he could end up playing for the team eventually. D'Angelo Russell is another free agent this Summer and some are salivating at the idea of Irving and Russell playing together in the backcourt. On Instagram recently, someone posted a photo of two Nets jerseys, one with Russell's name and the other with Irving's. Interestingly enough, Russell himself ended up liking the post which further ignites rumors that Kyrie might be joining the team. There have been other franchises reportedly in the running for Kyrie, including the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, and potentially the Boston Celtics should he decide to come back at an increased salary. With his move to Roc Nation in the works, it will be fascinating to see what Irving decides to do in the coming weeks. Free agency opens up on Sunday, June 30th at 6 P.M. View the full article
  25. DJ Snake has proven himself to be one of the producers that lusts for a summer smash each year. He introduced us all to "Enzo" a few weeks ago, which boasted a star-studded lineup of Sheck Wes, 21 Savage, Offset, and Gucci Mane. It would appear as though Snake wasn't finished there because this week, he's been teasing his latest musical undertaking, announcing a summer smash with Tyga and J Balvin. "Loco Contigo" will be premiering its new video in a matter of minutes but the song has arrived a little early on all streaming services. DJ Snake promised that his new song would be ready for the warmer months and it most certainly is. The song will go off in several different continents and depending on how impactful the video is later today, we can expect this to creep into the conversation for Song of the Summer. J Balvin dominates much of the track with Tyga sliding in for the second verse. T-Raw has been expanding his taste recently, working with Jon Z on the ultra-popular "Go Loko" from YG. Listen to the new song below and let us know if you're feeling it. Quotable Lyrics: Iced out watch I can get you one Tell your best friend she'll get one too Girls wanna have fun, I'm who they run to View the full article
