  2. Rock: Queen And Paul Rodgers Will Play Only Two US Dates LONDON If you want to see Queen and Paul Rodgers in the U-S, you have to head for a coast. They're only doing two US dates, October 16th in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and October 22nd in Los Angeles. They head to Japan after that. They have not announced plans to do any other American dates.
  3. Mindy McCready is being treated for an overdose. According to authorities in Pinellas County, Florida, McCready was found unconscious Friday in a hotel lobby. An incident report didn't list the cause of the O-D. McCready was charged last week in Arizona with identity theft and other counts. Within the past two years, she has also faced allegations of driving under the influence and a drug violation. McCready had a Number One hit in 1996, "Guys Do It All the Time."
  4. American Diver Injured at Championships American Chelsea Davis hit her face on the diving board during the 3-meter springboard preliminaries Friday at the World Swimming Championships. Davis was attempting an inward 2 1/2 somersault in the tuck position when her face struck the board. Blood poured out of her nose, stunning spectators, some of whom covered their faces. Helpers jumped into the pool and pulled a crying Davis to the side. She was put on a floating stretcher and taken to the hospital, where her parents and boyfriend joined her. "She's fine," U.S. diving team leader Bob Rydze said. "She's moving all her limbs. She just needs a few stitches." Rydze later said Davis was cut on the bridge of her nose, but never lost consciousness. Jashia Luna of Mexico was next on the board after Davis, and seeing the bloodied American upset her. "After I saw her hit the board, I started shaking," Luna said. "The judges asked me if I was OK, and I told them I was OK and I could do it. But then when I was on the board, I started shaking again." Luna's fingers hit the board on her third dive, but she finished the preliminaries and X-rays taken later were negative. Davis is entered in Sunday's synchronized 3-meter springboard contest with Laura Wilkinson. Rydze said the U.S. coaches planned to meet later Friday to discuss whether Davis would be replaced and by whom. Davis, a 17-year-old diver who trains in Columbus, Ohio, was competing in her first senior-level world championships. She was in 14th place at the time, which would have put her in position to advance to the semifinals later Friday. The fourth round of competition resumed after a brief delay.
  5. Pa. Gov. to Apologize to Marine's Family PITTSBURGH - Written apologies will be sent to the family of a dead Marine who was upset that the lieutenant governor appeared uninvited at his funeral last week, Gov. Ed Rendell said. Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll went to the July 19 funeral of Staff Sgt. Joseph Goodrich, passed out her business card and made a remark about the state government being against the war, family members said. "Whether you're for the war or against the war, to say something like that to a relative of someone who just died in combat was just repulsive," said Goodrich's sister-in-law Rhonda Goodrich. Rendell, during an appearance in Pittsburgh on Sunday, said written apologies will be sent to the Goodrich family, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported. Rendell said he hadn't spoken to Knoll about what happened. "It's not the business of state government to support the war, but our state supports the men and women who are fighting this war," Rendell said. Goodrich, 32, of Westwood, died July 10 in Iraq. His family told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette last week that they felt they were owed an apology by Knoll and didn't understand why she attended the funeral in Carnegie. "Knoll felt this was an appropriate time to campaign and impose her will on us," Rhonda Goodrich said. "I am amazed and disgusted Knoll finds a Marine funeral a prime place to campaign." Knoll's spokesman, Sean Pendrak, told The Associated Press on Monday that the lieutenant governor's office would be releasing a statement on the matter later in the day.

  7. The evil that lives in our midst - the faces of the London suicide bombers. Pictured are the four suicide bombers responsible for the bombing of three underground trains and a bus in London. For all the world they look like another group of friends setting off on an innocent day's outing, But they were a terror gang on a mission of murder in the country they were born, educated and grew up in. Bus bomber Hasib Hussain Mohammed Sidique Khan Shehzad Tanweer Germaine Lindsay This chilling image captured on CCTV shows them carrying their lethal rucksacks into Luton railway station on their murderous journey to kill 56 people and injure over 700. They are the evil that now lives amongst us - young men filled so full of hate for the country of their birth, they are prepared to kill themselves and kill others in pursuit of a twisted ideology. This terrifying new face of Islamic fundamentalism has sent shockwaves around the world. It has raised many questions and issues that need examining and addressing. No country or society is safe from these desperate fanatics, from the people who recruit and train them, from the teachers who turn them into lethal weapons of hatred. We are all vulnerable. We are all targets. Three of the bombers were ethnic Pakistani Britons. The oldest was Mohammad Sidique Khan, 30, who was married with one daughter. He was a teaching assistant at the Hillside Primary School in Leeds. He was accompanied by two other Leeds-born killers Hasib Hussain, 18, and sports science graduate Shehzad Tanweer, 22. Germaine Lindsay, 19, who lived in Buckinghamshire and was born in Jamaica, made up the fourth member of the terror quartet. Born, growing up and educated in one of the most tolerant and free societies on earth, the four practised their gospel of hate by the slaughter of that society's innocents. They chose the softest of soft targets, vulnerable train and bus commuters, for Britain's first ever suicide bombings. It has been suggested that countries and societies need to look at new measures and approaches to defeat this new evil in our midst. This is certain to include tough legal sanctions against the "preachers of hate" who in some instances are allowed preach their ideology of hate and violence with impunity. Egyptian "theologian of terror" preacher Sheik Yusuf al-Qaradawi was amazingly allowed to visit London last year following an invitation by the Mayor Ken Livingstone. A supporter of suicide bombings he announced on that occasion that Allah give "the weak what the strong do not possess and that is the ability to turn their bodies into bombs." As well as a travel ban on these hate preachers, what is certain to be looked at in the war against the Islamic extremist terrorists is improving intelligence, tightening security, and a higher degree of co-operation between countries. Islam itself has enormous challenges to meet - like facing the dark demons of fundamentalism. British Prime Minister Tony Blair called for the mobilising of the "moderate and true voice of Islam." Blair spoke of "an extreme and evil ideology whose roots lie in a perverted and poisonous misinterpretation of the religion of Islam." The British Premier said this evil within the Muslim community could only be taken on and defeated by the community itself. Source
  8. Jackson Won't Attend Dad's Birthday Party BERLIN - Michael Jackson will not be coming to Berlin to attend a party for his father's 76th birthday, according to a statement posted on the pop singer's Web site. Speculation had been swirling on whether Jackson, recently acquitted on child-molestation charges, would attend Joe Jackson's birthday celebration this weekend at the Estrel hotel. The statement said Jackson extended his "sincere regrets that he will be unable to attend the Victory/Birthday Party, hosted by his father, Mr. Joseph Jackson." "However, Michael would like to wish his father a very heartfelt `Happy Birthday' and he hopes that everyone attending the event has a truly wonderful time," the statement said. Ralf Sesselberg, who is organizing the Jackson birthday bash, told reporters Thursday that LaToya and Janet Jackson had canceled their weekend trip to Berlin. He did not give a reason for their absence. Jermaine and Tito Jackson have already checked in, Sesselberg said. Family and friends are staying at the Estrel hotel. The Jacksons are to be received by Mayor Klaus Wowereit Friday at city hall, where they will sign Berlin's guest book. ___ On the Net: http://www.mjjsource.com http://www.joseph-jackson.de/
