I unfortunately have to admit that I did, and still do LOVE Creed. Shit, I like Nickelback.
I like the shit that indy heads trash. I like it because it doesn't always have to be some emo/enviro/PETA/FeedTheChildren message.
Sometimes music can just be stupid, and about nothing, but goddamnit, it's fun.
However, that doesn't mean that I have to like Fred Durst and Scot Stapp... and I fucking hate Marilyn Manson fans, even though I am one.
Sometimes, you have to like music for what it is, not the asshole making it.

Sounds to me like he followed all the necessary steps to squatting, and claiming ownership of the land.
The same thing can be done in the states with abandoned property.
Establish residence: get utilities and other mailings sent to the property
Make improvements...
