Who is going to see Spiderman 2?

I have a thing about catching at least one movie every week and I have managed to pretty much hold up to that every week for the past year or so. This week it's going to be Spiderman 2. I picked up my midnight showing tickets yesterday and it is being shown at 12:00 am Wednesday Morning.

I can't say I was a huge fan of the first one. I mean it was cool, but Spiderman just looked so fake when he was swinging around. It had a hell of a storyline though and it was well acted. This one doesn't look like it is going to fall off much, if at all.

Now I'm not a comic book reader and I never have been, but from an honest moviegoers opinion, I think it's going to be worth a viewing.

What do you guys think?

I was a Marvel comic book fan growing up - actually had original copies of Spiderman and Daredevil at one time. Im looking forward to SpiderMan 2 and thought the first one was well done and properly cast, and the efx didnt bother me...

Kooper and CJules are the experts here on comic books. All I can tell you is that they got the characterizations right.

I've got midnight showing tickets as well. :D

Copycat :P

Make sure you post what you thought of it after. I'm going to be interested to see what everyone thinks of the movie that is supposed to be the biggest of the summer. I hope it doesn't disappoint. The last midnight showing that I caught was Van Helsing and that wasn't what I would call a very good movie. If it wasn't for the cool graphics, that would have been even worse.

The last midnight showing I saw was the last Harry Potter. I honestly don't know why I go to those things. The auditorium was filled with these 14 year olds whose parents dropped them off and were kind enough to pick their asses up at 2:30 in the morning.

Haha, I said I was going to avoid Harry Potter. I got suckered into the first one by my girlfriend, then everyone in the theater fell asleep (Including the little kids and my girlfriend), except for me and I had to sit there bored as hell because I wasn't tired. Then the second one I got sucked into watching during the summer by my friends. They dragged me out saying it wouldn't be so bad and I guess it was ok.

The third one though was a different story. I was determined to avoid it for a while, but my stepbrother begged me to take him the first day. Finally I gave in and drove him up for the first showing after he was done school, which was at 4:20. Well apparently they never listed it on the theater sign and the 4:50 showing was sold out, so everyone was leaving without asking anything. He wanted tickets to the 8:00 one and I thought it would be the soonest since there were a bunch of sold out signs up on the board and they were covering the times, so I assumed one of the times was 4:20.

It wasn't listed though because we asked the woman working the ticket counter and she was like well you can go to the 4:20 one, but we don't have the movie here yet. Then the toher woman was like well we just got it in, so let them in. So we walked in and found a couple of seats in the back, but then looked around to find a bunch of 10 - 14 year olds with like the only people my age being ones that came with their litte brothers and sisters. MY stepbrother is 15 and even he was too old to be there. I thanked him for that and for making me sit for 30 minutes slouched in my seat while they were waiting for the movie to start, with the lights on. I guess it wasn't that bad, I just hope no one saw me. :)

Im gonna see the third installment Harry Potter. It was directed by Alfonson Cuaron (Y Tu Mama Tambien) who usually does not make kids movies. I hear its good

Initial reviews actually rate 2 much higher than the original.

I might give it a look before I decide whether or not to see it in theaters.

The last movie I watched was "The Day After Tomorrow", and that sucked.

Suffice it to say I didn't go see it in theaters.

Forgot to add a story line? Did you notice that Ken?

In my boredom induced stuper...................yeah, I still noticed.

I've seen my fair share of disaster movies. This one was especially boring.

You know what movie I am actually really looking forward to... Alien Vs. Predator. It looks like a pure carnage fest and I can live with that.

When I first heard they were doing the movie, I figured it's going to suck big time. Then I saw that they picked a halfway decent cast of people who are up and coming in movies, along with the guy who originally played Bishop in Aliens and Alien 3 (Lance Henrikson or however you spell it).

I've seen three trailers now and it looks like it is just going to be a fun movie to watch. I don't expect a story or award worthy acting, but simply just enough action to entertain me. They seem to want to stick with what worked in the first Predator and the first two aliens, which was scary moments and stealth attacks.

Could be worth a look when it comes out.

I liked it immensely, as I stated here:

The kernel for the movie, the direction, cast and efx were fine for a summer movie - my problem was that the storyline was weak. The film might have had a bit more zing to it if the dad reached the kid before the climax... Anyway, I didnt mean to spoil your fun, Koop. Certainly there are lots of worse things on the screen these days

AC--yep, Im up for Alien vs Predator. Curious as to who the director is - that will be key.

I didn't get excited about seeing Day After Tomorrow after seeing the trailers so I haven't seen it. If the wifey drags me to watch it I will go. She mentioned going to see it. The Predator vs Alien flick may be cool. She will probably want to see that and Spiderman. I can deal with her selection up to a point. Some of those chick flicks are just too much for old dad. Shakespear In Love comes to mind. I thought that movie would never end. The longest 2 days of my life were spent watching that 90 minute movie. :)

NY Times gives it a thumbs up.

"But its distinguishing features, I'm happy to report, are strong characters and honest feelings. Like its Marvel Comics cousin"X-Men 2," this sequel, freed from the dreary burden of exposition, is better than its predecessor, and also superior to most other comic-book-based movies. It has a more credible (and more frightening) villain, a more capacious and original story and a self-confidence based not only on the huge success of the first "Spider-Man" but also on Mr. Raimi's intuitive and enthusiastic grasp of the material."

Novelist Michael Chabon contributed to the story, with sole screenplay credit going to Alvin Sargent (Ordinary People)--with writers like this involved, Im not surprised its getting great reviews. For me, the summer movie season has just begun.. The image below is from Columbia Pictures...

Well I saw it. No spoilers, I promise.

Graphics were awesome, especially when cars were in the air for whatever reason. Story was there, especially as it went on. Acting was up to par, though some of the characters won't get the screen time you want out of them.

It followed suit well with the first one. I'd definetly recommend it. I think the highlight of the movie, outside of the action of course, was the comedy side of it. It didn't take itself too seriously and I think that was important.

Anyway go and see it. There was a full house tonight and no one was disappointed.

Anyone else see it. Potato, I know you did... What did you think?

I liked the movie.

I didn't like the asshole with the laser pointer.

Ohhh and the Bruce Campbell cameo. Good stuff.

Like alliercollins said, I didn't think it took itself overly serious, and that was a good thing. Some parts were a bit eh but what can ya do (besides beat the kid with the laser pointer)?

I haven’t seen Spiderman 2 yet, but I wasn’t a big fan of the first one. Is it just Kristen Dunst’s bad acting or was she supposed to come of that stupid?

My brother reads a lot of comic books ever since he was little so I know a bit, and I think I’ve said this on another thread, but when does Silver Surfer get his?

As for The Day After Tomorrow, I haven’t seen that either, but I want to just because it has the guy from Donnie Darko. (now that was a great movie)

Here is a little trivia for you.

Jake Gyllenhaal, the kid from Donnie Darko and The Day After Tommorow is Kirsten Dunst's real life boyfriend. When Spiderman 2 was starting the filming process, Tobey Maguire was hurt and the studio thought he was holding out for more money, so they said they were going to replace him with Jake Gyllenhaal. They actually had him training and everything. Tobey miracuosly recovered and got the part back.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
