about this:

The commission also reported today that you gave the order to shoot down those airplanes that were commandeered by the terrorists but that your orders never reached the American pilots. Can you tell us how agonizing that was?

CHENEY: ...First of all, I discussed it with the president. The president made the decision....

when was this again? before, during or after bush sat on that little chair at that school?

The Vice Presidents comments about the press remind me of Spiro Agnew, Richard Nixon's first vice president, who called newspeople "nattering nabobs of negativism" because they wouldn't settle for printing just the news the White House wanted them to print, they kept on digging deeper. For anyone too young to recall Agnew, who was actually a bigger crook than Nixon, here's a link to some of his quotes.

What surprises me about this administration, is that they never acknowledge making any mistakes. I dont doubt that there were links to Al Queda and Iraq--or for that matter, all the countries in the Middle East. However, it really begs the question--Was there a link between Al Queda and Iraq and 911. The answer is No, and Cheney provides no evidence to refute it... So just what is he refuting?

9/11 panel invites Cheney to give evidence

June 19, 2004  |  WASHINGTON (AP) -- Nearing the end of its work, the Sept. 11 commission is inviting Vice President Dick Cheney to provide any evidence he has that would show links between al-Qaida and Iraq under Saddam Hussein, a panel member said Saturday.

He said the panel also wants to follow up its questioning of President Bush's national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, and CIA Director George Tenet.

The Cheney request culminates a week in which the commission said it found no evidence of collaboration between Saddam's Iraq and al-Qaida, while the White House stuck by its position that the two had significant links.

Cheney told the CNBC network that there probably were things about Iraq's links to terrorists that the commission members did not learn during their 14-month investigation.

After hearing the vice president's comment, commission members said they would like to see any intelligence reports that Cheney is referring to.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
