Easynews ups its limit

Popular Newsgroups provider "Easynews" - http://www.easynews.com - has caved to popular pressure it seems, and has upped its monthly/demand Gigabyte limit from 6 to 10. The original pricing plan of 6 Gigabytes or 30 days for $9.98 was considered very pricey among newsgroups fanatics, and most importantly, Easynews customers.

Besides having a rock solid newsgroups feed with blazing speed, stability, and the best possible completion and retention, they also have very effective "earn gig" programs; one being a weekly survey, which is simply filled out (regardless of what your opinions are, or what you rate them), and 512 Megabytes is deducted from your accumulated Gigabyte total for that period. The other "gig" earning venue is the participation in the UD (United Devices) program, which helps find a cure for cancer, by providing spare CPU clock cycles to help with research; 15 days of CPU power donated equates to 1 gig off the total.

Now, before you say "hey, what does this have to do with anything?", I’m getting to a point.

Even with these avenues, 6 gigs or 30 days for $9.98 drew despair and criticism from many as being way too pricey as already stated, and I, for one, agreed. However, because of this popular consensus, and because of their wonderful feedback system which you can utilize after you fill out the weekly survey, those who run Easynews became aware that they may lose customers to this. Thus now, the gig limit has been upped to 10 gigs or 30 days, for $9.98.

Though that may still seem a little pricey, especially for some people's downloading habits, it's a start. One could sign up for two services, one including Easynews and another perhaps being an unlimited service like Usenetserver, and Easynews's fabulous retention and completion could help to download those pesky incomplete parts that the other service couldn't pick up; handy for those lame-brain no PAR posts, or a whole set of posts that just didn't get through on the other service. Besides, a move such as that would still amount to less than $25 for at least a reasonable amount of time. With newsgroups carrying the data they do, it's a great situation.

I suppose the main point here is that there are still some companies out there, that truly listen to their customers, and don't just pretend to listen.

These extra gigabytes are becoming a standard - I like the fact that some of their profits go to fight cancer... :good job:

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
