Wal/KMart Intro's DVD Player That Deletes Smut

Recommended Posts

That's bordering on insane. It's not even funny.

Wellllll, this part might be a little funny.

"In the guise of making films 'family-friendly,' ClearPlay seeks to make whatever 'edits' they see fit to any material they don't like," the group said in a prepared statement. "By not seeking the consent of the director, whose name on the movie reflects the fact that the film comprises his or her work, or of the studio as copyright holder, they can and do change the very meaning and intent of films."

Actually, this part makes it super funny. According to U.S. copyright laws, it could be hard to find the DVD-player makers faultless while upholding some of the other b.s. that they are ramming through.

ie. Artists claiming the problem with p2p, aside from loss of profit, is the loss of control of the work.

I dont think that will go over well, and frankly, I dont think its legal.

If Clearplay wants family-friendly films, here's an idea for them: Make your own.

Yeah, the movie industry already rates the level of stuff happening in their movies. Also, most rental movie boxes warn about the instances of adult content. This seems a bit foolish.

Where do you buy a dvd player that will INCREASE smut? That would probably sell a lot more units, lol. I'd get one, anyway.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
