police are not allowed in universities here

These were campus cops, but they have some authority. I got a jaywalking ticket for walking on my own campus one day! These cops were pigs and I hope they get what should properly be coming to them. The kid forgot his ID--big deal. I have posted on the Huffington Post, and I will probably write the Chancellor. I was active in alumni activities there...

The Daily Bruin provides the following report

what a bloody outrage!!...student bodies/organisations on NZ campuses are very political..and very powerful..and very inclined to the left....that sort of shit wouldn`t wash down here....here in NZ it would be all over the media..the politically correct/human rights/civil liberties brigade would be screaming....the cop would have lost his job and would at this moment probably be having the arse sued off him....

The cops will lose their jobs. The university will get sued. The student will win. He was a victim of racial profiling in my mind. Whether or not he had his student id is immaterial--there were other ways to provide proof of that--and there were about 100 kids or so at the library when the incident happened, and they werent all asked for IDs. WTF are all the campus cops armed with Tasers for anyway? The whole incident is outrageous and I think the bruin reporter is not representative of the campus at large at all

On that we're agreed.

But then I can probably guess the greeting I would receive at Stormwatch. I believe he knew what would happen if he had no I.D.

Now that the Dems have control, maybe things will loosen up over here...

Here are some Eyewitness Reports and student comments

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
