Queen-Another one bites the dust [1980]

Angry funk from this British pop/rock crew, off their 1980 multi-platinum album The Game. This track earned them their only Grammy nomination. Excellent track, the kind that transcends genres. Proof?? It went to #1 on the pop charts AND #2 on the R&B charts at the same time. Here's a bit of interesting trivia. The group didn't even think about releasing this as a single until Michael Jackson suggested it after one of their concerts.

A common urban legend surrounding the chorus is that, when played in reverse, it contains the messages "it's fun to smoke marijuana" and "start to smoke marijuana". In actual fact, the song does not contain any deliberate backmasked message; it is purely coincidental that the title of the song sounds vaguely like the aforementioned phrase. The song can be heard in reverse Queen - Another One Bites The Dust: Hidden Message

i love Queen, and own quite a bit of their stuff.

this song, however, is one of the ones I will skip. I don't know if it's the fact that it's been played to death, or the fact that it's so bland compared to other Queen songs, but I can't sit through it. LOL.

Me too, but I never cared for this one.

Yea! ehy is that? For some reason, this one never impressed me. I guess because it was a little too poppy/mainsteam/watered down, compared to all the other Queen I'd owned up to that point. I mean, after

Get Down, Make Love

The Prophet Song

Tie Your Mother Down

Sheer Heart Attack

Save Me

Now I'm Here

Seven Seas of Rye

Killer Queen

it's kind of tough to accept Another One Bites the Dust. I'm not knocking the song because it's bad, because it's not. It's ok, but not the Queen I cut my teeth on. I guess, in all honesty, it kind of irked me that it was so popular, when it isn't even in their top 20 best cuts. Just my opinion, of course.

(BTW...did you own an original 'The Game', when the cover was metallic? Now they're just gray)

I'm probably the biggest Queen fan there is. One of the greatest experiences of my life was seeing Queen in a small 2,800 seat hall in Pittsburgh. We had seats in the orchestra pit. The "Night At The Opera" tour. It was the band's first headlining tour of America. February 20, 1976. All the Queen sites list this as the Syria Mosque. But it actually was the Stanley Theatre.

I'll never forget it!!

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
