Ty Lue "Strong Frontrunner" To Become Lakers New Head Coach: Report

The Los Angeles Lakers officially fired head coach Luke Walton on Friday afternoon, which quickly led to a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski regarding the top candidate to take Luke's place.

According to Woj, former Lakers point guard and ex-Cavs head coach Tyronn Lye is viewed as a "strong frontunner" to take over the position.

News of Walton's firing, and Lue's status as a "frontrunner," shouldn't come as too much of a shock.

Walton's Lakers went 37-45 this season and rumors of a coaching change persisted throughout the disappointing year. In fact, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Walton and his staff had "fully expected to be fired" after the final regular season game on Tuesday.

Back in March, Yahoo Sports' NBA Insider Chris Haynes noted that LeBron's former coach is "an obvious candidate" to replace Walton.

Although he is out of a job for now, Luke Walton appears to have plenty of options if he wants to get right back on the sidelines. 

According to The Athletic's Sam Amick, Walton is the "clear front-runner" for the vacant Sacramento Kings head coaching job. Additionally, he has also drawn interest from the Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers, according to reports.
