Dave Gilmour: Rock Stars Are Paid Too Much

Recommended Posts

davegilmour.jpgDave Gilmour believes that the gap between key workers and rock musicians is unfairly high.

Gilmour said: "I do feel uncomfortable with the degree of wealth that comes with the territory I occupy.

"We live in a capitalist society, I suppose, and it's only a matter of supply and demand. "And I do look at other bands and think, well, we are a fuck of a sight better than them.”

As contact music quotes, he finished: "But it is extraordinarily perverse that I as a musician am paid so much more than, say, a doctor, or a nurse, or a teacher."

I can't disagree.

You could look at it like this though. The majority of musicians aren't super rich and a doctor or lawyers career typically lasts longer.

i saw david gilmour live a few years ago...he was very disappointing with a weak voice and his guitar playing wasn`t that shit-hot either....so i`d have to say, on the basis of what i saw.....that i think he (gilmour) is being paid too much for what he does..... :)

Have to agree with Kiwibank... I watched a set he did on the Jools Holland show the other night and if it were not for the other class musicians holding him up he wouldnt be that great at all.

He's right... far too much money for twanging a guitar.

I love Pink Floyd so much, those CD's got me thru so much but yes it is really ironic and strange that musicans, athletes, entertainers, CEO's and all the rest of the biggest of th big can command and get what amounts to a a simple person's whole entire lifespan and and not question why.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
