Bill Walton: Barack Obama Should Be UCLA’s Next Head Coach

Earlier this week, UCLA announced firing of men's basketball coach Steve Alford, following the team's 7-6 start to the season, including a 15-point home defeat at the hands of Liberty on Saturday. 

During UCLA's Pac-12 opener against Stanford on Thursday night, UCLA alum Bill Walton was asked who he'd like to see take over as head coach. His response: Barack Obama. 

As noted by Walton, Obama's brother-in-law Craig Robinson previously coached at Brown and Oregon State for eight seasons, and is currently serving as the New York Knicks' vice president of player development and G League operations.

We all know Barack Obama is a big basketball fan, but Walton might have to settle for someone like Earl Watson, who was recently endorsed by former Bruins point guard, Lonzo Ball.

"I know Earl personally," Ball said after the Los Angeles Lakers' shootaround Wednesday morning, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "I think he has coaching experience in the league. Obviously he went there, he's alumni, so I think he's a good fit."

Watson, 39, played at UCLA from 1997 to 2001 and then in the NBA from 2001 to 2014. He went on to coach the Phoenix Suns for a few seasons, but was fired after the team got out to an 0-3 start last year.

Assistant coach Murry Bartow will be the interim coach at UCLA for the rest of the season, but it remains to be seen who will be the long-term solution for the Bruins.
